Because these are beta builds, I may just hold off until the RTM leaks. I'm not sure what has changed in this version of the beta, but all the previews talked about features that didn't work or hadn't been turned on yet. Or I could wait for impressions from anyone here who tries it out and see what they say is missing or not functional. :)

The only feature missing, if I remember correctly, is twitter integration. Everything else is already go.

Ok, multitasking is not working correctly because apps need to be updated for it to work, but other than that, everything seemed fine.

Could take a while.

@cliffsimpkins: Invites should be out to all registered app hub developers within a few hours. We're pushing them...now #wp7dev

Where did you read that we'll have to restore our phones from a backup when Mango comes out publicly?

The press. Maybe it will be different for devs?

Guess not:

@davidhearn: Agreement you need to complete to get #wp7 #mango really does try to press the point you need to keep your backup safe ;)

I'm glad that I can always flash my LG back to 7.0 RTM.

I thought you could only restore to the previous version?

Man, my son was born just a few weeks ago, there is no way I can justify $100 to get Mango earlier. I'm going to have to stay the heck away from this thread. :(

Just wondering: will a dev unlock also make the marketplace available in new countries.. cause I just switched to my Dutch live account for developerssake but would like to be able to download some basic apps again..

I went ahead and submitted a sample application..

It has a text box and a button to touch to change the text of the box.

Some people said that they didn't get verified by geotrust until they submitted an app..

I did the same, but after two hours of no email, decided to contact them.

Woman on chat was very curteous and sent me the email right away. I already sent the documents they needed back and I'm waiting for full certification. :)

Congrats.

What documents did they need, if you don't mind my asking?

I already filled out the questionnaire with SSN, etc..

edit -

I'm a registered developer.

Phone is dev unlocked.. just waiting on my connect e-mail with links to mango..

You must print a letter you must fill out (name, date, signature) and scan it along an official document (in my case, my driver's license) and send it back via email.

Me too.

Just reading through the supplied PDF. I'm actually quite nervous about doing this now....
You're losing your warranty by doing this, but you'll get support from Microsoft if your phone bricks.

They really want to make sure that you back up your phone before updating.
Like, really, really sure.

That's worded as-if non developers can install the update too... but only registered developers will receive support.
You need an unlocked device to run the tool. Otherwise it links you to the AppHub.

That said:
Update device e1ae6bb5 - 9edf3d3a - 1106314a - 6360c72f Complete with error code: 80181197, error message: There isn't enough available space on your computer's C drive. Free up at least 768 MB of space.

I have 7.86 GB free. Fuuuuuu. :lol

e: Creating the backup takes always such a loooong time and all I had to do is deleting the music. I'll never learn.

I am soooo very tempted to sign up but I have faith in a few days the xda guys will get around things so anybody can update their phone.

You already can update your phone. All you need is an unlocked device and the tools, that you can find at XDA. No need for an AppHub subscription. I'm updating my private phone right now, which is kinda stupid, because you *can* update more than one device, but MS will only help you with one bricked device.

I must have missed it.... any chance you could post a direct link? Looking through xda right now but am not seeing the files in the official thread.

Hmm, not sure if I want to risk it.

Any more detailed impressions guys?
Don't test it, if you're not a registered dev and you don't want to risk your phone. You're installing a beta version of an OS update via over a distribution method, that itself is still in beta.

No.

whoever was concerned about the performance after the mango update, don't worry. The phone won't turn into an iPhone 3G. The performance is still excellent.
