You lose the unlock, iirc, but that doesn't matter, because homebrew apps don't work in Mango anyway.Klocker said:anyone?

As Microsoft products make the trip across the Pacific, its not unusual for features to get lost at sea. After Windows Phone Mango Beta 2 ROM bits were released to the wild yesterday, a quick headcount reveals a surprising number of features that survived the journey including both RTM and new Mango features.
Heres what works in the current Mango build when the system region is set to English (United Kingdom) and search region is set to English (Australia) like the default without the region hack.
- Improved: Speech recognition now supports the full function set (calling, texting, Bing search)
- Improved: Bing Maps now shows local search listings (e.g. Bunnings) with basic information
- New: Bing Local Scout works
- New: Bing Maps directions works with tap-by-tap voice guidance including street names (with British pronunciations)
- New Bing Local search works
- New: Bing Vision works
- New: Speech-to-text and text-to-speech text messaging works
Of course theres still a few features which fell overboard.
- Crippled: Bing Vision does not scan books, CDs or DVDs (only text, QR codes and Microsoft Tag)
- Crippled: Bing Maps local listings does not show reviews
- Missing: Bing Music Search does not show
- Missing: Bing Quickcards (go to IMDB app) does not show
got it, thanks. brotkasten gave me a good guide but it still took almost 6 hours. Mango, finallyKlocker said:tools/folder options/view/*check Show hidden folders

Right now I still have a feature phone (that I never use .), but it looks like I will be doing an exchange semester soon (in France in the fall) and I think that would be the right time to switch to a smartphone (dictionary/translation apps, maps/gps, photos ).
Unfortunately I won't have time to wait for Mango or the Nokia phones. I'll probably buy the phone at the beginning of august at the latest and without contract.
I'm thinking I might go for the Omnia 7 or the Optimus 7, since those are said to be the best ones. Looking at ebay those can be bought for ~240 Euros and ~160 Euros respectively.
Any opinions on what/when to buy? Would you say the additional 80 Euros for the Omnia are worth it? Any reason to hold off from now till august?
P.S.
Too bad Germany/France won't get all those nice Mango features. Local scout would be nice. Or turn-by-turn nav.
(have MS by now released what Mango features will come to these countries? e.g. voice input/output?)
Some of those are such odd things to not work though. As I previously said, CD, DVD and Book artwork doesn't typically differ much in different regions. Why not just leave it turned on? It works flawlessly for me in the UK on everything I've tested it on with my region set to US. I guess they could easily work once Mango is ready for release though!brotkasten said:http://www.istartedsomething.com/201...ed-down-under/
It's really the Bing stuff where Microsoft fails incredibly.
They've been a lot better since the firmware update that turns them off when a finger is touching the screen though. Can't remember the last time I had an accidental press since.derFeef said:Yes, Omnia 7 is mighty sexy.
And yes, capacitive buttons are annoying as hell sometimes :/
There's no difference. All you need is an unlocked device and since you're a developer, you can install it.Cj70 said:Looks like I missed out on the first wave of developer invites which sucks because I need it for work
Not sure if I should try the XDA method
did not know that! is there a firmware update only for the Omnia?InaudibleWhispa said:They've been a lot better since the firmware update that turns them off when a finger is touching the screen though. Can't remember the last time I had an accidental press since.
Nope, in fact, the Focus got the firmware update first.Greyface said:did not know that! is there a firmware update only for the Omnia?
No, it doesn't. It's probably "by design". Doesn't really bother me, though. The only videos I watch on my phone are YouTube clips and my fav YT app, Supertube, has it's own media control interface, including scrubbing.NotTarts said:Does Mango have music/video scrubbing yet?
did the dell venue pro get this update too? by the way, has anyone gotten Mango on the venue pro?brotkasten said:Nope, in fact, the Focus got the firmware update first.

no but you can use the rewind and fast fwd buttons so it ain't so bad.NotTarts said:Does Mango have music/video scrubbing yet?
Hmm, annoying. Seems pretty archaic, to be honest; sounds like they're not including it as to differentiate WP7 from the other platforms.Greyface said:no but you can use the rewind and fast fwd buttons so it ain't so bad
The negatives for me (So Far):venne said:So what's the verdict? Is the update worth it for the non-developer?
The Abominable Snowman said:The negatives for me (So Far):
Freezes more constantly. My XDA-Devs app (paid) and Boss Launcher exit immediately for me instead of starting. XDA launches time to time but freezes after a while and then exits
It took mah tethering ;_; I cannot tether anymore! Windows comes back with a "no dial tone" error even in composite mode
Facebook Chat and Live Messenger don't seem to be working yet. There are XDA Devs working on it, but when I play with it sometimes it freezes.
Bing has taken the place of Google in IE search. On my DVP when I typed in a search query in the URL box it would search it on google. Now it opens up the Bing app and gives me 3 or 4 useless web results and a million other media results.
The positive:
Everything Else

Yep that zoom thing used to piss me off too. Happy it's sorted.ochobit said:Before, I noticed that when I tried to post stuff some weird zooming happened when I touched the text box. I had to zoom out to find the post button. That's no longer happening.
Perhpas it was an isolated issue.
EDIT:
I'm now noticing some black bars over usernames after I go to last page. A refresh fixes it, tho. Believe me, a small issue compared to blurry neogaf image.

Oh, that. Right, that was there. Never really bothered me, so I didn't notice that it was gone.ochobit said:Before, I noticed that when I tried to post some weird zooming happened. Now I didn't notice anything wrong.
A refresh doesn't remove all the black bars for, but I can live with that. One nice new feature in the new browser is the scrolling indicator on the right side of the screen. I can finally figure out my position in a long page.ochobit said:Before, I noticed that when I tried to post stuff some weird zooming happened when I touched the text box. I could be wrong, but I think the indicator was always there.Greyface said:A refresh doesn't remove all the black bars for, but I can live with that. It's there on mine, although with a change as big as Mango it appears to be easy to convince yourself something is a new feature if you never took notice before.brotkasten said:I could be wrong, but I think the indicator was always there.
