Windows Phone 7 |OT|

I have a Titan and my wife a Focus S and the Focus S's battery is extremely good. I think the Titan is amazing as well as I usually get about 30-40 hours before I have to charge again. Hers is at least 20-30% better.

Compared to some android phones the battery is amazing. A buddy of mine at work just got a Razor and we traded phones a bit to try each other's out. While I had his, he lost about 40% charge while mine lost almost nothing. Felt bad. His phone died while we were out and mine is still kicking 24 hours later.

Now I'm not familiar with Windows Phone, the Titan is my first. Is this a regular occurrence on the platform, an isolated problem with my three samples or a problem with the Titan itself?

I haven't play any of the game on the Titan, I will tried it today. On my old Focus most of the game ran ok but they were all lock to 30 fps before Mango. Fruit Ninja on Focus did have some slowdown. Let me try it and I will report back to you.

Anyway, I didn't know Sonic looks (and seems) to play pretty good on Windows Phone.

I bought a Titan yesterday and I'm starting to think there's a problem with it. I can't be sure since I only have three samples to go on, which isn't anywhere near enough, so I would like to hear more from other Titan owners. The problem begins in the Youtube link I qoute above, where they review the Titan. At around 6:00 they show stuttering in a movie and afterwards in a game. Not the typical framerate problems games suffer from, but more like short freezes.. That's sample one.

Sample two is from videos I recorded on my Titan. A short clip first:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NswAwUSGu3I&feature=channel_video_title

Then a game:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Bedex2?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/dJASJwPlB3c

Notice how Sonic 4 freezes from time to time especially in the latter part of the level. Every movie or game I've tried does that. Exactly as in the review...

Sample three is from a store where they let me test a video clip on another titan and once again it stutters.

Now I'm not familiar with Windows Phone, the Titan is my first. Is this a regular occurrence on the platform, an isolated problem with my three samples or a problem with the Titan itself?
Turn off the HTC Sound Enhancement's

It worked.

I bought the Titan instead of the Lumia 800 primarily because of the big screen, because I intend to do a lot of gaming on it, but if every game had had those freezes, it would have been a dealbreaker. Luckily I won't have to exchange it now.

Thanks guys.

Play with Focus S a bit and the Flash. I am thinking Flash would make a nice small back up phone. It's small and perfect for night out when you don't need big screen or using a lot of app.

true...I think of my backup as what replacement do I want in my drawer when I have a Darth Tigris situation (sorry for your trouble). But... there is something to be said for a nice little Flash as a go out device when I'm not at work or doing something more active ...hmmm. :)

hmmm could i justify a lumia this way... :)

Got my Cyan Lumia!

Everything's working pretty well right now except it wont sync with my exchange, but that's my fault as there's a certificate problem which everything else I've connected it to just lets me ignore.

Also think i can kind of feel the battery problems, the whole device gets warm to the touch (even the glass which is a bit weird). Hope the battery fixes reduce that a bit.

Major gripe is no volume controls on the headset :( everything I read said it had them too.

When I played with the black model a month ago, I wasn't that impressed. But damn, the cyan model is really sexy. Maybe it will feel slightly smaller.

Pre-ordered on contract but seems the Cyan release date was today and they just weren't telling anyone. It's available everywhere now (I'm in the UK but I know France is the same at the very least)

Came with red tiles as it's on Vodafone so the very first thing I did was change it to nokia blue, makes everything feel very deliberate, I'm totally satisfied so far (apart from the annoying volume-less headphones that is).

Cheers for expanding.

Im in the UK aswell, and currently on o2 with a simplicity plan with a HD7 (bought PAYG on launch).

Looking at upgrading to a Lumia. So i guess on the 9th ill walk into a store, and see what kind of 12month deal they can give me or PAYG price. Otherwise ill walk into phones4u and get a sim free version for £399.

I played with a black one in a CPW store, it had a massive securtiy brick on it, but it felt surprisingly solid. I could see the pentile subpixel arrangement, but think i would get used to it.

How is the screen? and what phone were you using before?

Sorry i feel like i am bombarding you with questions here.

Damn that's hot. I never even considered getting a non-black phone until this photo...

Please, review of the Nokia transit app!

Why weren't you impressed? Does the black not look good irl? And why would the blue one feel smaller?

I'd guess he's bored of black phones, and i think implying that the nokia looks so good in blue that he'd be able to ignore the size for a distinct device

It doesn't look bad, but it was bigger than expected (as big as my Optimus 7, which isn't exactly a sleek phone). The blue one could feel smaller, because with the different color of the body, the bezel on the side of the display doesn't seem that fat anymore.

just bought geodefense (deal of the week)

one of the best wp7 games

have angry birds/ilo milo/pvz been on deal of week?
ilo milo i believe has. i don't think pvz or ab has.

ministry of sound app has been updated today for mango, thank god. if you enjoy electronic music, this is a great streaming music app. much better quality than last.fm, slacker, and other free streaming apps. only $2, a bargain considering all streaming apps that give you this level of quality are priced much more.

On a side note doesn't it feel good to know we don't have to worry about carrier iq problems as none of the WP7 devices have that stuff installed?

in the engadget focus s review there is a nice chart with battery life of the next gen phones.

I'll tell you what, the Focus S is a damned good phone and as much as I am enjoying the Titan I think I am also going to keep the F/S too. I LOVE how light it is. you don't realize it standing in the store balancing them in your hands. But use the titan for a few hours and then pick up the Focus S and you say wow...that's NICE. and yes the battery last a while but the Titan is almost as good in my experience. not quite but close.

Samsung struck an excellent balance in size/weight/features/beauty with this phone.

it gives me more ammo to throw at android fanboys. more ram, multicore, lte, all are needed on android to handle the background data mining i tell them.

all fanboys are annoying. ive just learned to phase out the hate. not the best way to handle a situation, but it works.

How light does the Focus S feel compared to the original Focus? Also, is the material of the case as "smooth"?

My biggest complaint with the Focus is that it is too light and the case is difficult to hold while using it (with one hand at least). I have to use a case otherwise I would be likely to drop it.

It feels even lighter. I held one and it felt like it was going to float out of my hand.

yes it's lighter but as i said it's hard to compare until you are actually using one and then switch to the F/S. When I first got the F/S and switched from focus I noticed it was lighter immediately. After using the titan for a day or two and picking it up though...wow... feather.

but I can't hold either my Focus or F/S (or titan) with one hand without a case as it slips out (too slippery). I'd love to go case less but they need to put texture on the back (and afraid i'll break it when I;m working outside).

Edit:
people on WPCentral say they are noticing slow network speeds form titan and compared to a focus s with a huge advantage

That looks really nice. I didn't really think the blue would be nice, but from that pic it looks good.

How's Nokia Drive & Maps? If you have used them.

Haven't done any tests nor have I had any problems (my Titan isn't really any slower than the Flash was, and both are way faster than my old Jack), but yeah it is weird that they display a 4G signal in the bar when I don't even have 4G in my area, nor does AT&T have any plans for 4G here in the near future.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was throttling, but it could also be hardware. Hope not, haven't noticed any signal strength issues at least.

Ugh. The profile pictures I use for my contacts get pixelated when they come from Google Contacts... Had to redo everyone in Windows Live because it was bothering me.

What are the chances of MS doing Google+ and AIM integration with the OS? I think that's all I want for now.

Oh wow. AT&T better not have set the firmware to not be able to have full HSPA+ speeds, but it appears that they may have. What are the odds of them sending out an update to change that?

EDIT: Also, has anyone who ordered a Titan from Amazon had theirs shipped yet?

I really doubt we'll ever see Google+ integration, we probably just need to hope that they open things up so 3rd party developers could integrate.

It'd be nice to have Jabber support, since that'd give us AIM and GTalk.

Beautiful. If they make an AWS version for Canada, I'm in. I really like Windows Phone 7 and want to see it do well. This phone would make me switch.

I just tested my titan on cell data only and most scores were high 3g to 4 g 1200-2700kbs. I have my old 3 g sum in mine and a rep told me I really should insert a 4g card for best results wonder if that matters

oh and keep forgetting to mention the LED indicator lights on the titan...actually have missed those. :D

missed call, charging, charged ...

It's lighter, you will probably want to find a case. I find old Focus too light also and used case with it.

The titan got a good heft to it but after 3 days of usage, I think it's just a tad too big. I figure out what little stutter was, it's because part of my palm sometimes hit the screen when I am manipulating the screen with my thumb.

yea I am actually liking in titan:
screen space, colors and brightness, white theme, led notifications, good quick camera, button layout, call and speaker quality...

not like:
overall size with a case on it, USB location

I'm thinking Titan 4.5" would be perfect for one hand

OTOH, my GF doesn't use her phone with one hand most of the time so she would probably like it

I stop by at At&t store after work. It's the store by my new job and they were pretty helpful. I told her I had a Focus, upgrade one of my line to Titan but I still have an old sim (3G). She told me I should get new sim and proceed to set up everything for me and even call the rep to get the Titan associated with my numbers instead of the line that it was upgrade from.

I was really surprise. She even have good thing to said about Windows Phone. She told me part of the problem is the lack of push by Microsoft thus the lack of interest. She think it's a great phone that is super easy to use and would be very popular with many new smartphone user.

Anyway, I didn't noticed any huge change in speed but it was never that slow to begin with when I have my old sim card in it. Again I don't used data that much and mostly on wifi.

As someone who is considering jumping board on WP7 instead of OSX/Android, do you still think that Mango has a good future?

How is the App activity? Are developers actively making apps for it, or are there some of you who feel bumped that some cool apps for the other platforms are not for WP7?

I don't have a smartphone, so I feel it's a big choice to pick my ecosystem of choice. I really like Windows 7, and I like WP7 interface more than the others too.

I'm not into gaming mobile but useful stuff and productivity apps. GPS, restaurant finders, training, whatever can assist in daily life, like the other smartphone apps can(for android and osx).

Dev earns 5 times more on wp7 over iphone
iOS market losing share to wp7

I'd say it looks rosey enough at the minute
