I know people have said how in the past, but I am lazy. How do you enable this behavior? Or is it just over blue tooth?

And good on MS for creating gateways to their services on other platforms. They are letting their software do the talking and trying to get back consumer mindshare. Any idea when those apps are supposed to be dropping. I want to pick up that SkyDrive one but I can't find it on the Marketplace.

Sorry for late reply, mod send me on vacation. If you hold down windows button you will activate tell me. If you go to setting under Speech you can set how you want the text reading options are off, always on, bluetooth & headset, bluetooth only or headset only. You can also set confirmation to on or off.

Does anyone pair their Titan with a bluetooth headset or bluetooth sync their car?

I'm about to return my Titan as defective. Because its happening in all my cars.

1/2 of the time when I'm getting out of the car when I deactivate bluetooth or hit the button to switch back to the phone I can still hear the person but the mic doesn't work. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, I have the problem if it loose bluetooth connection then mic stop working thus it no longer hear my command. Also bluetooth sometime doesn't get voice from the phone properly.

I am thinking it's a HTC bug and not defective. The more I used Titan, the more I think I should have gotten the Focus S ... well too late now I just bought a carry case and dock for my Titan. (it's generic dock so the dock app doesn't auto activate with it... but it works for what I want it for).

I still love the phone but this bluetooth problem is ridiculously annoying. Also the light has been messed up from day one under the Windows button. It's half lit. Minor annoyance that I can live with but not the bluetooth problem.

Told you guys the Focus S was the way to go. Samsung has some decent apps and settings too. A 3g/4g toggle, glonass, instagram clone, their version of tango, the now app with live tile, and control over the haptic feedback. Of course, the phone has some issues, but Samsung improved the original focus through firmware, so I'm hoping their good track record continues.

Being honest what issues do you have with the Focus? The camera on the Titan is ridiculous which is a big selling point for me. I've seen the tests that the battery is really good on the Focus S.

I have had an incredible experience with my first HTC device. The build quality is amazing but this bluetooth issue is really pissing me off.

If a 900 comes out early next year i'm jumping ship after about a month of impressions.

yea the Titan camera, screen, the LED, the speaker (sound in general), Headphone button functions all work, build quality, and did I mention that beautiful screen?! ;)

But yea Focus s is a sweet ride too just in a different way, Black blacks, more responsive screen, lighter for long term one hand use, better location for power and USB, more friendly pocket form factor.

Edit: btw. My local rep said I could return titan, reverse the upgrade and save it for future phone. But I got it for a penny! So keep, trade for focus or return and buy 900 later? :D

Samsung Focus v1.4

Er......uhhh.....ummmm....surely they've learned not to change key internals without informing Microsoft by now, no?

Being honest what issues do you have with the Focus?

Here are the issues with the Focus S:

1. There is a known bug that lags the keyboard if you have key press sounds turned on.

2. The auto-brightness is too aggressive and wonky. So you set it to medium (toggle it to low at night, to high in broad daylight), and problem solved (until we get a fix from Sammy).

3. It has an excellent sensor, but the software needs work, so it takes some effort to get decent pics unless you are in perfect conditions.

4. Some people think the awesome screen is too awesome for them, and prefer "toned down" colors, lower contrasts, and gray blacks.

Here is where it is better than the Titan (I shouldn't have to type imo here, but I will):

-Better screen. I don't care what anyone says, these GSII screens are the best mobile displays out there. I'm not knocking the Titan screen, its the best LCD screen I've ever seen, it just isn't as eye-popping as the GSII screens.

-More manageable size, weight, form factor

-Faster network speeds. I don't know why, but it just performs better than the Titan on AT&T's network.

-Better call reception, call quality, call performance. These things are still phones.

-I haven't tested this, but I imagine with GLONASS and sensor aiding, the GPS works better.

yes AT&T penny sale

Tempted to try another one but one guy has already done it and after intial joy said it was more of the same..muffled underwater tones.

Note./.. you do not hear it when using earpiece or BT or Tango...just phone calls form handset.

even this most recent review comments on it

nearly everyone I spoke to (usually clients) complain at one point or another that they missed something or repeat it. the current theory seems to be overly aggressive noise cancellation. One guy even drilled his speaker hole out.

Hmmm...haven't used BT or Tango.

Heh, I don't think any one feel HTC Titan screen is superior to SuperAmoled+, especially the deep black (I sure miss that).

I am good with Titan, though I would be just happy with the Focus S. One thing that I do appreciated the Titan is the big screen real estate. I have more free time at my new job (better lunch period) and it's nice to do some reading on the phone itself for 20-30 mins and not having to pack my iPad.

As for call quality on Titan, to tell you the truth I don't really call people all that much on my phone but my wife do said I sound a bit muffle not to the point that it's annoying and she want to hang up.

Jagged said something about call to Verizon being better I have to 2nd that. I get better call quality to Verizon phone than talking to my family on At&t. So I am chalking this up to
crappy At&t network.

4. Some people think the awesome screen is too awesome for them, and prefer "toned down" colors, lower contrasts, and gray blacks.

I like the blacks better on the Focus S, but the colors are like watching a LCD TV on Vivid mode. I could get used to it, but as a whole I don't really like it. I also like the weight and feel of the Titan, it's not a big deal but I prefer the phone to have some heft to it. Between the plasticy feel and the weight, the Focus S feels pretty cheap. Doesn't mean anything though, it's a great phone.

And to hazard a guess at some of the Titan's drawbacks, I think the call quality issue might be related to the decision to put the antenna in the shell instead of the body of the phone. Poor connection between the shell and the phone might lead to poor call quality.

Data speed issue looks like it could have been AT&T intentionally gimping the phone, lowering the data speed to lighten the network usage a bit since most people wouldn't notice.

Edit: And one thing I dislike about Samsung's phones is their need to plaster the Samsung logo on the front of the phone, wasting space.

I'm still really interested to see a Unlocked direct from HTC Titan with an AT&T Sim's speed test.

I've made a good deal of calls straight through the handset with the Titan and still haven't had one bad experience. No muffling or anything.

I do notice on both mine and my fiancee's though, that the reception isn't always the best. I generally always had 3-5 bars in my house, but now we both hover between 1-2 and sometimes lose it completely.

Overall I'm still really happy with the purchase.

So did we ever figure out how to fix the phantom update bug? I get a number on my market tile indicating an update, but nothing there when I click through. Annoying enough that I'm considering unpinning it from my start screen.

So I haven't been active in the thread since Nokia World in October and am wondering if there's been any announcements or release dates for new phones or any other important stuff? Nokia World was just kinda disappointing for me because of a couple factors; 1) I really disliked the way the guy seemed to try so hard to be like Apple and even used the "it just works" line a few times, that really bothered me for some reason and 2) The Lumia was kinda meh save for its gorgeous design. No FFC, still single core (I know I know), and that music mix thing sounds stupid, just meh.

Still haven't purchased my first smart phone yet and I'm still leaning towards WP7 because I love Windows 7 OS and Windows 8 looks cool and there will probably be a bunch of shared functionality between WP7 + Win8 + Xbox Next

nokia will show off new phones for the US market at ces which is less than a month away.

yes on my end it sounds crystal clear... try calling your phone from another phone several times and see how you sound. I'm sure there are factors to each persons experience and as much as I am begging for titan to be my main phone I and others can not function with muffled call quality to other partys. sometimes it sounds fine but about half the time it's one of those "I'll call you back" scenarios.

Edit: thanks to antiquegamer for his suggestion my second penny purchase be the Focus S. ;)

Probably wishful thinking, but I'm hoping manufacturers bundle their bug fixes along with that mandatory SMS security update that MS should be sending our way soon.

The next event is CES on January 10, which I think is speculated where Nokia's North American launch will be announced

So the poor signal and call quality issues have proven too much for me to handle with my Titan. I'm returning it tomorrow and saving my upgrade for a device I can be 100% happy with. Both the Focus S and the Titan have too many issues. Hopefully Nokia steps up to the plate with the 900. In the meantime I'll be using a Focus and an iPhone 4 for my work and personal phones.

Hmm...I have not notice this problem on the Titan. It used to do it on my old Focus also Focus always seem to have pending podcast stuck in the download ques.

I got a chance to play with t-mo Radar yesterday and I feel that the Flash is a much better phone. Screen on the Flash is great and the faux metal back on it feel real nice. The screen on the Radar is terrible ... while I don't mind a white color phone, I think the design it self is kinda ugly. It looks great n picture but really cheap in real life.

So I finally got the Titan last week and I'm enjoying it so far. The large screen and windows phone are great. The one question I have for those that have one. If you have the dark theme on and put pressure on the sides does that part of the screen turn white for a second?

More on Nokia’s Project ‘Rolling Thunder’

Nokia U.S. president Chris Weber has revealed some more about their Project Rolling Thunder campaign to win back the US market in 2012.

He revealed despite the fact that the Nokia Lumia 710 was not a high-end device it will still be promoted as the “hero phone” in T-Mobile’s winter promotion campaign.

The device, which will launch in January 11, will be accompanied by a television and web ads campaign beginning in January. It will also have prominent placement in T-Mobile stores and be available at Walmart and possible other outlets.

Both Nokia and T-Mobile will run Lumia 710 ads in January in a coordinated way to ensure consistent messaging, Weber added, with the phone targeted at feature phone users who want to step up.

As more Nokia Windows Phone models hit the market next year, the company will ramp up its marketing and promotion efforts "to reintroduce the Nokia brand to consumers in the U.S" in a "new, fresh and energized way," Weber added.

The rest of the year will bring "broad portfolio in the U.S. at many price points serving multiple user experiences with multiple carriers" including 4G LTE-equipped Windows Phones.
Uggggggh.

Does this mean we're going to have to wait even longer for the 900? Their big strategy to get into the US market is to spearhead with the 710?

[Rumor] Sprint Introducing at Least Three Windows Phones in First Half of 2012

If Sprint’s smartphone lineup were a recipe, it would look something like this: heavy on the Android, a sprinkle of BlackBerry, a dash of iPhone, and a pinch of Windows Phone. However we’re hearing that the chefs at Sprint are planning on adding a little more Mango flavoring soon. Looking to diversify, the going word is that the Now Network is finally ready to show the folks from Redmond a little love.

If this pans out, Sprint customers can expect at least three Windows Phone devices during the first half of 2012. Looking at Sprint’s current position, this move definitely makes sense. Putting it mildly, Sprint’s present 4G setup is stuck in the mud. Windows Phone’s current 3G only strategy fits nicely with Sprint’s current situation.

This has the makings of a win-win situation, as Windows Phone would increase its stateside availability and Sprint’s catalog would see some needed growth. As far as device details are concerned, nothing clear has been mentioned. But looking at Windows Phone’s near-uniformed specifications and their current list of hardware manufacturers, Nokia, Samsung and HTC are our leading suspects. With CES on the horizon and a lonely HTC Arrive in our rear-view mirror, we’re saying bring on the Ballmer!

So are there undercurrents going in the seas of iOS and Android for something new? Are people just discovering how great Windows Phone is?

http://www.infoworld.com/t/cringely/the-latest-fanboy-obsession-windows-phone-7-181900

There are more positive news of late but the truth is the phone marketshare still hover at low single digit and doesn't help when people measure it using Windows Mobile as a yardstick. (Another reason why they should have gone with non-Windows sounding name).

I think the weakest link in Microsoft Windows Phone (aside from the fact that it's call Windows Phone but after the Zune and the Kin can you blame them for going back to the trial and true Windows moniker) are the carrier that sell them. Microsoft biggest problem has always been that they generally don't sell to consumer like Apple and they only know how to foster relationship with carrier and developer. If they can get people that sell the phones excited to offer Windows Phone again may be they will have a chance ...

Seriously, it's about time. If it weren't for WP7 I would have dumped my arrive a while ago. While I do have a few gripes it's mostly a solid device except for one glaring issue. The mic is horrible. Calls always sound garbed and the speakerphone is crap. To throw salt in the wound as well, the speakerphone volume is quite low which makes it practically useless outside of noise-free environments.
