Winning the lottery

Short intro, I day dream about winning the lottery sometimes. So I want to read other peoples reactions and responses to winning say, 500 million dollars (or your countries currency).

What youd do day one, where would you move? Cut people outta your life? I'm just fascinated by the concept.

A decade ago I would have gone to part time but kept my job..... now I would use the money to pay my boss to burn that place down.

I'd spend the rest of my days walking my dogs, going off road, watching old movies, and making shitty fan films.

I would stay in Vegas, give my family some goodbye money and never speak to them again.

First step is obviously drop half a mil on a crazy car. That would probably be my only splurge purchase.

Then after that bunker down and not make many changes to my daily routine or go on any spending sprees.

I would TRY to contain myself if around people, scream to a pillow if at home.

i would not cash that shit till like a month later. I would try to look for financial advice meanwhile from various sources.

At the time to cash out, i would pay family a set amount, hold a bit cash, save the rest, look into the world of investments.

All while TRYING to keepit as quite as I can.

Don't take this as an attack, but would you? I've read so many stories of people winning millions and a few years later being broke. I feel like I'd be one of those people.

Could be, don’t really know unless I’m actually in that situation. I’d like to think I’d be able to handle it without getting too crazy.

I remember a while ago, when DVR was new, a family bought the winning lotto ticket the day after and had the dad watch the "live" news channel that was showing the numbers. I think I would have hurt someone that day! Dude was speechless.

I suspect I'd become incredibly depressed. The things that make me unhappy aren't solved by money. I wouldn't turn it down though.

On a serious note. I don’t think I’d change much in my life unless I won some serious “fuck you” money. If I won 1,2 or 5 million I am keeping my same job and only making a few decent upgrades to my everyday life. I feel I would only make those bigger wholesale changes if I won something huge like 50-100 mil.

Somebody from my year at school won 1-2 mil and he lives like any of us. And my sisters friends parents won, they moved 2 miles away to a house with a few extra bedrooms and have a nice holiday every year. I’m sure the major bonuses are the ones you won’t necessarily see like no money worries from month to month etc.

I'll buy a friendship with EviLore EviLore
Buy a nice big house
Never work again
Spend a bunch of money on DBZ and video game stuff
Enjoy my sad life until I kill myself because I have too much money and would always believe women are using me for it.
Lol you already planned to drop your wife.

The day dream of every person I know these days (except for the ones that do well). Sad thing is they already hit it and don't realize it.

When asked what do you want out of life the answer is always "I dunno..'

I'd immediately hire a staff to keep me from fucking my life up. Put a bunch of structure in place that protects the principal while allowing my family to live well. Trusts and shit. No free wheelin and dealin. So many people who luck into something like that have it ruin their lives.

I'd buy houses for everyone in my family that I care about, then I'd get myself a nice house, I'd outfit it with some awesome theater/gaming room with no expense spared, and then I'd get in as much fucking and eating as I could before my deathbed.

Firstly, help my local circus get back on their feet

Next, buy a plot of land in the Cornish countryside, and have a lovely old fashioned cottage built on it, all quaintly traditional and catering to the simple life...

...and underneath that, many many basement levels full of cool tech and amenities as well as storage, a panic room, and escape tunnel to a small secure safe house on an isolated beach, complete with supplies and a boat to flee in, should things ever go tits up.

I'd also give my team at work each a couple of years wages, pay off their mortgages or give them a deposit for a house, depending. They're good people, and I would absolutely be kind of screwing them by immediately leaving them in the lurch to pick up my workload, as I bugger off to a life of luxurious isolation.

Probably buy home for around 1m, next I would probably end up asking Sony I can put up some cash to help start that Legend of Dragoon remake. I know I would give my family some money and probably relax travel and catch up on some games.

I'd restart bum fights

My IT department supports the lottery for our state so I’m not allowed to play any games. When we didn’t support them I enjoyed those days of buying massive amounts of tickets when the total amount was super high and dreaming of quitting my job and just building older cars all the time and racing.

I’ve won it. Money doesn’t buy you happiness, in fact, I’d say I have more problems after winning.
I’ve heard so many more horror stories about winning the lottery that I would not want it. Our town’s water department went in on the MegaMillions several years ago and won the whole thing. One of the coworkers was sick that day and sued them since she always participated and she was not asked that day. They paid her off. 8 people won the lottery and 6 or them are dead. I don’t hear much about the other 2, but I’m pretty sure they moved away since it’s a rather poor community.

Wouldn't tell anyone. Buy small condos/studios scattered across my state and a few home base single houses. But a fast car that will enable me to drive quickly between each location. Maybe do the same thing in neighboring states and buy an airplane and learn to fly between each state. Maybe a boat as well, but then I'd have to purchase property along the coast. I'd try to also purchase cheap commercial real estate in poor areas and probably build gyms and veggie smoothie shops, too. Probably in the high obese areas.

The most important thing would be to figure out how to remain as anonymous as possible when collecting the winnings, otherwise god help you. Lawsuits and beggars looking for handouts, broken friendships and ties cut with families is just some of the bullshit headed your way if people find out. The stories of major lottery winners often turn out badly

Probably buy myself a sweet gaming laptop to keep me sane and then embark on a grand tour of the finest coffee shops the world has to offer for a few months, and use that time to figure out what to do with the money long term.

I too, have fantasised about this. Here are my lottery winning steps;

Pay off all debt
Put rest away for 6 to 12 months, in order regain some level headeness
Give family money
Invest in property
Buy an f40
Build a new home
Travel

In general though, do as much good as I can with it.

Wouldn't wanna win it. It removes most struggles to the point i probably get bored to shit to the point it becomes super unhealthy. I rather have things that i gotta do and pushes me towards it because of budget restrains.
