That rule came into effect because people kept making threads where they'd mention something people would want and then have the entire thread fill up with just "PM".

i expect the PM rule to be an amendment to the current TOS. It's been mentioned before and at least half of the banned should've known about the rule.

I can't remember how MANY threads (mostly in the Gaming forum) in the last 2 months were FULL of "PM me!" posts.
Nothing happened, no bannings, no nothing.
I was kind of puzzled cause I remember you can't post shit like that here (or like /. "First Post!").

Now, finally, GAF takes some action.

Sucks about the bannings... Sometimes I question the mods here, some things people get banned for are really insignificant while other things go by without a hitch that I find much more ban worthy or offensive. But oh well...... I'm not in charge....
