Whoa, this was pretty great. The only thing I saw out of this anime beforehand was the picture on MAL. I was really surprised by the visuals. Glad I picked it up.
He basically gets her preggers in the theater, and then a timeskip happens, and we're shown a pregnant Sae a little under 9 months in the future. Teen pregnancy I guess isn't really on the table for the show though.
Dead serious. The anime made me rage, but it was handled nicely in the game, and her's was probably the most unique in that aspect, as far as her age went.
I think I need to look into everything in the game that was cut out of the anime now. It sounds like the show might have left some rather major stuff out.
dat namechange is going to keep me from accidentally being banned again. Had to be!
I had to analyze the text in an Elliot Carter piece today and all I could think of was the Utena fight music and Penguindrum because it uses apples and roses in the same sentence.
The Rose Family
by Robert Frost
The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose -
But were always a rose.
In my head the whole time: Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku

because they cant
all of the characters have moments of being pricks
its what makes them actual characters rather than standard anime paper thin personalities
-it’s nice to see bones acknowledge the existence of the younger Elric brother for once in there spinoffs and not have him server the purpose of background furniture all the time and he even supposedly shows interest in a female in this one, unfortunately it gets almost zero development, oh and edward gets a husband for like 1min then he dies to have Edward be all sad over the lose of his friend.
-lol at how they found a way to shoehorn everyone’s favourite waifu winry in there and also husbando mustang.
Commence bashing
First hour of this movie was sleep inducing, the movie felt like a rehash of story/topics that’s was already been covered in the anime to death both in fma brotherhood and fma 1 but with a less time spent on the actual town and its people but more spent on some boring story about lost sibling story witch just came off as standard cliché anime stuff but later did get interesting with the aizen like twist but only the first twist didn’t care for the later one .
- It would of been nice if milos was more then background art like having the brothers explor the place looking for clues then flat background.
-ugly ass battle on two cg trains on cg railroad bridge with cg ugly mountain background
Not fan of the art style used for the characters in this movie looked bad compared to brotherhood but the animation the later part of the movie in the action scene looked really great but characters like Edward and soldiers looked like ass in the first half imo.
The movie did make up for its really weak first half with some really great looking actions scenes and a funny twist in the later half, ending up decent.
I would recommended it to fan of the series, its hell of lot better then shamballa theres some enjoyment to be found in this one.

Good stuff on the whole, I thought. The film really felt like a fusion of things that I enjoyed from the original Fullmetal Alchemist as well as Brotherhood. I was a fan of the early standalone episodes of the original FMA that focused on Ed and Al's exposure to new cultures and their various usages of alchemy, and Milos felt like a combination of that and the exploration of
foreign methods of human transmutation
that pervaded Brotherhood.
FMA always does interesting things with themes of
cultural and military oppression
, so I was glad that the film addressed a familiar subject already proven to play to the strengths of Ed and Al's characters. It wasn't necessarily a new angle on the old problem, but it was handled competently and did a good job of weaving the exposition of characters and settings into the plot without any of it feeling like infodump or retread. I certainly wish that we could have seen more of the
Milos slum city
, but any detours would have likely negatively affected the pacing so I'm still satisfied in that regard.
Animation was good throughout, though there were a few scenes in particular that bordered on the incredible like
the brief fight between Atlas and Julia after the revelation that Atlas had stolen her brother's identity.
Non-CG backgrounds were generally pleasing and I especially liked the brief glimpses of
Table City
with its somewhat Spanish architecture.
My only real criticism of the film came at the end when
Juila's brother CASUALLY GETS OUT OF BED, LEAVES HIS HOSPITAL ROOM WHICH WAS FOR SOME REASON UNGUARDED EVEN THOUGH HE HAD COMMITTED COUNTLESS ATROCITIES THE NIGHT BEFORE, AND ESCAPES.
WHAT WAS THAT? Did I miss something or did that actually happen? It didn't really ruin the movie for me, but it nevertheless caused me to rage through the ending credits.
Still several thousand times better than Shamballa, which is what really matters.

I've been craving anime lately (I haven't watched any in years), but I'm overwhelmed with choice. Can anyone supply me with recommendations based on this brief list of what I can remember enjoying over the years? Here it is:
I've recently started watching Gurren Lagann (as I've liked Gainax's work in the past) and I'm not terribly impressed, though I'm only a few episodes in.
edit: Or to put it simply, what are the "seminal" works of the past ten years or so?
It would have been fuck awesome if it wasn't the "spend $1 on the budget episode." Seriously, Id love the shit out of the episode if it looked as good as most of the show does (bar a few other episodes).

Speaking of Time of Eve, was the movie worth watching? Superior/Inferior version? Also did any news of a sequel eventuate? I remember there was a mention of a possible sequel when the OVA run ended... I think...

the movie was basically the OVA with stuff added and taken out. definitely worth watching again. as for a sequel there's a rumor floating about that they might announce something at that really dumb NicoNico theater thing.

A soccer game is probably harder to properly animate than mecha action, I feel. It involves a lot more movement for sure. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a properly animated soccer game in anime...

I didn't realize they had even made a "film" version of Time of Eve. That was a nice watch, but I hated how slow it was released (watched it on crunchy roll).

That reminds me, I need to get me some Usagi Drop. I don't know why but I watched the first episode, knew I would love the entire thing, and never watched any more.
Aria the Natural 7: A quaint little episode that involves that strange mystical world of cats where humans are said to be unable to enter. It begins with rather Aria-ish scene, Akari and Aria just waking to a new summer on Neo Venezia. The triple A trio is once again practicing their gondola skills but Akari notices Aria riding a gondola alone somewhere. While Alice heads off to school, the other two decide to follow Aria into what seems to be the mysterious parts of Neo Venezia where only cats dwell.
I find that I really enjoy these more magical episodes as long as it doesn't feel too out of place for the setting. Particularly, the idea that the cats can access unknown/unreachable places in Neo Venezia is charming. Magic cats! I find the Cait Sith himself to be an interesting character since his introduction in episode 3 iirc with the festival. I do hope he returns again and again. Such a classy cat.
There were some pretty backdrops this episode as is usually the case (a fair amount of reused footage this time though). The transition into the cat realm wasn't quite done as well in the festival episode where it felt like Akari and Ai were really being led into a slightly unnerving dream world. Still I did like this scene with the pinwheels.
The funny face quota was a little bit lower than usual this time but Akari still manages to be ace and Aria is adorable as always even if he was somewhat distant this episode. Truly a worthy predecessor to the wide face.
On a side note, the choro club ost and the awesome OP/ED sound so much better now that I have some better headphones.
