Buying anime doesn't really change anything in the industry. The only way to really get the anime you want made is to fund it yourself. For about 5 million USD, I'm pretty confident we can make a really solid looking 13 episode anime with no moe, serious story, adult characters, good writing, and kickass action animation. Looking for backers now. Who wants to put in the first million?

The alternative would be a large scale protest
we are the 1%

Maybe we can convince Mitsuo Iso to take a paycut if we can restart his career.

The Light of El Cantare
The ending of Milos is bad and trivializes the entire scenario of the movie. It is also a terrible moral lesson for children because
it says that no matter what happens, how much bad shit you have done, or how crappy the situation is, as long as you have MAGIC and you're willing to give up a leg, everything is okay. In no way did it jive with the true message of FMA at all.

The fact that the only price Julia had to pay to save her brother was a leg is nonsensical because at that point of her life, the Truth would know that a leg was a small price for her to pay, and she would be willing to give it up because automail technology is so common and widespread. It's not a sacrifice at all if it doesn't really mean much to the person losing it. Heck she was up and walking the next day!

Ashley getting away is also unforgivable and nonsensical. He is a traitor, a mass murderer, and basically an all round insane person. If Julia brought him back because of her love for him, only to have him arrested and tried for his crimes, that would be one way of ending it decently. An even better way would be if Julia's price for bringing her brother back is that she loses all memory and knowledge of ever having a brother, and she brings him back only for him to be tried and executed for his crimes, and accepting that he was just another criminal, without realizing that she sacrificed anything to bring that person back.

Yes, I hate the ending, so I've been thinking about it for months now. >_<

This sums up my misgivings with the ending. The more I think about it, the more horrible it becomes. When I saw
Julia with nothing more than a leg missing and in otherwise fine health after taking a philosopher's stone into her body and performing an act that has completely fucked up the lives of anyone else who ever attempted it
I knew something felt unsatisfying and off, but that's exactly it--
equivalent exchange with The Truth was never just about giving up an adequate amount of flesh, but giving up the part of the self most deeply connected to the transmutation. Equivalent exchange in human transmutation is always horrifying, visceral, and ironic and leaves anguish, regret, suffering, and despair in its wake. It's always somewhat like a Monkey's Paw scenario. Julia's transmutation was so lacking in any of these essential qualities that she might as well have just had her wisdom teeth removed.

The only way out of this that I was able to think of was the possibility that
Ashley had not actually ever died but was only near death when Julia healed his wounds and restored his face. This could be why we only saw a momentary glimpse of The Gate--he was prevented from dying, but not actually restored to life, and so Julia merely skirted the edges of a true human transmutation. I think that terrible writing is the far more likely culprit, but part of me still wants to find a reasonable way of reconciling everything. They just didn't give a fuck about staying true to the spirit of equivalent exchange and allowed an utterly evil person to go free in the name of a happy ending.

Too much fun in too short a time. I should have left a couple episodes for the some other day.
Unused Character needs to reappear again, I want my Rie.

Maybe there is in Japan. How else do you explain how Yuasa and Koike manage to get any work? Oh and MAPPA? Totally suspicious.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro

Miyazaki sure doesn't make films like he use to. This really made me wish that something came of Oshii's Lupin III project as that would've been fucking amazing. How's the TV series compare to this?

I think most of the time these two-parters feel pointless because it feels that they could have told the story in one episode if they were paced tighter.
Pretty much. The worst example of this was easily the two-parter involving Tanuma and the mirror. That could've easily been condensed into a single episode and it would've been better for it.

possible Another spoiler? lol

...

i- i think i'm gonna have to watch Another now. (yes i realize this show probably isn't this light-hearted at all)
I don't know if Eyepatch Moe is best moe but I made yesterday some gifs
for 4chan

The moe level is pretty high.
damn, this almost makes me wanna pick this show up again... even though i've been spoiled about what happens next :(

It's not nearly as good. It's OK though - you get to see a little of Lupin's original hard-edged spy persona in the beginning, then Miyazaki and Takahata take over for some nice Saturday morning cartoon adventures.

I am willing to join this venture, but only if there is moe. The rest of the stuff you want is okay.

This episode was largely unnecessary, but there were a few nuggets that push the probability of
"main character is the ghost"
forward. Pretty hyped about the next episode though.

I'd say exactly the opposite. This episode pretty much proved that
the main character can't be a ghost
- the range limitation established here pretty much kills that idea.

Hmmm, I might check it out then but only after I get around to watching Sherlock Hound.

So speaking of 5cm a sec...

Is Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo worth a watch?
only if you like shinkai's cloud porn and even then not really

It also established more rules regarding preciseness of who can and can not be affected too.

It's curious that you'd have problems specifically with these characters and not, say, characters from certain other shows.

Just really not a fan of the hazing. It's basically been "how can we torture Renton this episode" for the last few. Yeah, maybe some of the characters start to respect him a bit more at the end, but that development is thrown out the window by the time the next episode rolls around.

I also don't like how the design of every single female in Gekkostate screams "stuck up bitch". Hilda seems alright though.

Well, that's not really a 2011 show!

Gintama isn't, but Gintama' is.

Could you please zip or rar all those GIFs and upload them somewhere like Mediafire so we can get them all at once? Abload.de is really having a seizure right now or something for me, I don't know why.

dresden usually posts the weekly sales stuff so I'll leave the details to him later. But Milos didn't really do that well at retail it seems.

Milos Blu-ray LE: 10,130
Milos Blu-ray Regular: 2,633

Milos DVD LE: 7,214
Milos DVD Regular: 4,582

About 24k across both BDs and DVDs. Not very good for a full theatrical movie for a popular manga. In comparison Shambala sold 77,280 DVD LEs and 45,495 DVD Regulars in the first week of release. That's like, 100k more than Milos did. Shambala ended up selling 171k total eventually. I think that might be more than what FMA:B sold in total across all volumes of the TV series... lol.

Could be,
but I think we still don't know enough about the main character's past to know if he ever left the town. With the way things are setting up, I just get a weird feeling that he died as a relative to someone in the class long before. In fact I feel like that's one of the biggest reasons it was laid out which relatives of the class can die. It could go either way, but I don't think it would be satisfying for anyone else in the class to be the ghost.

But as duckroll gleefully posted in the gundam thread, AGE bombed! Imagine the kind of bomba that Level 5 + Bones could muster up.

You know something is very, very wrong with a new Gundam series if the first volume of the series cannot even outsell the DVD box set re-release of some other 5 year old Sunrise series. :)

Don't worry duckroll, it wasn't suppose to sell, it was aimed @ kids to usher in a new age of gundam fans to make sure the franchise pros *gets handed demographics chart for age tv ratings*

Level 5 sure have developed a talent for flopping lately..

Haha. Even the plamo are massively flopping. It's really weird to see how Level5 totally misjudged the market on this one. I'm glad though, because it's really the furthest from what I want out of a new Gundam franchise.

I'm around half way through Summer Wars and I must say the female lead is doing a terrific job at being uninteresting and unlikeable. Enjoying the movie otherwise.

OH MY FUCKING GOD

SO FUCKING GODDAMNED MOE

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

I swear to God this show is the most amazing and convincing case of Eyepatch Moe being Best Moe that has ever been made. There have been other shows and other characters with eyepatches, but Mei is absolutely God-tier Eyepatch Moe. And then she takes the eyepatch off
and shows us her beautiful yet unsettling doll eye
and she manages to maintain the God-tier moe even without the eyepatch. Mei is actually a fundamentally strong example of moe and the eyepatch is merely a decoration which gives us something to focus our moe viewpoint on. She's breathtakingly moe without or without that eyepatch. This means she differs from other characters who have eyepatches where the eyepatch really is all there is that is moe about them. Mei's going to have a lot of really rough competition in this year's Saimoe tournaments though, even though she deserves to go far in them.

IDu8o.gif

Okay, anyways, about the episode.

So the opening of the episode confirms that Mei was asked by the class to be the ignored one. She complied, realizing that the good of the whole outweighed her own selfish desire to not be the one chosen for the role. It's not clear at this time why they chose her, though I still think it has to do with the fact that her cousin died shortly before the events of the show begins. It's interesting to note that Kouichi now sits at the desk Mei vacated to take her place at the beat-up desk in the corner. This implies that the desk Mei vacated was deliberately left empty and as the transfer student Kouichi was assigned that desk.

There was a huge information dump for most of this episode, and that occupied most of the time spent. Fortunately we were given many extremely moe moments with Mei to keep our eyeballs busy while various people explained all kinds of shit about the curse and the mechanics of it's operation. Several points stood out to me as potentially important.

(1) The curse always results in the alteration of the class roster and the erasure of the memories of the people during it's effect, but after it ends and the deceased vanishes, memories are restored and the school roster is repaired. We can therefore take any names which appear in the roster as being definitive in all years except the current school year.

(2) People who have already escaped death once by having a near-death experience are immune to the curse, regardless of when that happened. This strongly implies that Kouichi and Mei are immune, because Kouichi survived a bout of pneumothorax right when he arrived in Yomiyama and Mei survived a near-death experience on the operating table while her cancerous left eye was removed and replaced with that beautiful doll's eye. Of course Kouichi is immune if he is the ghost, but Mei says something very interesting during this episode, wishing him "Good luck" (on surviving the curse) even though she must be aware that Kouichi was in the hospital, that's where they met after all! So either Mei knows more than she is letting on (as usual), or this is a red herring.

(3) The curse affects members of Class 3 and relatives two degrees of separation from them. So, siblings, grandparents, and cousins are all susceptible. This is why Mei's cousin (Fujioka) is dead, why Horror Nurse (a classmate's sister) is dead, and why Meganekko and her mother are both dead. It's also why Kouichi's grandparents look like they are scared out of their goddamned minds, because even in their old age where they should be peacefully living out their later years, death can still come to them suddenly and violently.

(4) The curse extends to homeroom teachers and their assistants, which explains why the other teacher Mikami is scared too. Mikami was even a previous Class 3 homeroom teacher in a curse year and she survived, so to put her back in this position by assigning her the assistant homeroom teacher's position is incredibly cruel. It also explains why Mr. Homeroom Teacher goes completely insane from the stress and appears to graphically commit suicide with that huge knife at the end of the episode, as teased in the next episode PV.

(5) People who were in the class and survived a curse year are not immune to the curse. They did not directly escape death in the sense of having a near-death experience and therefore can still die. Reiko (Kouichi's aunt) is therefore susceptible even though she survived a previous Class 3, which is why she is acting so freaked out.

(6) The success rate of the countermeasure of ignoring someone in the class is only 50%. Those are some shitty odds, it's no wonder 2 years ago a student broke from the stress of isolation from his classmates and declared he did exist, causing the curse to resume even though that year it actually was working so far. Poor Izumi actually has a very difficult position as Head of Countermeasures. Her only available countermeasure only works 50% of the time, which means she has a 1 in 2 chance of implementing the countermeasure and watching her classmates or their family members die every month anyways.

(7) Leaving the town ends susceptibility to the curse. Unless I understood this point incorrectly, it seems fucking retarded that the entirety of Class 3 and all their family members don't just leave Yomiyama for a year then if the curse starts that year. It's likely this is a point that I misunderstood if the solution could be that obvious. Maybe the distance immunity only works after you've survived the year in Yomiyama, I'm a bit confused on this point.

(8) The homeroom teacher of Class 3 26 years ago is old creepy librarian dude. He seems to blame himself for the curse and remains at the school even in his old age out of a sense of guilt for allowing the curse to have happened. This implied he did or did not do something which resulted in the curse on Class 3. This might be significant later on, or it might not.

Random shit:

Kouichi's daydream dance sequence is awesome. It's an obvious reference to Pulp Fiction's famous dance sequence with John Travolta and Uma Thurman, in case some of you haven't seen that movie in a long time.

If I were Kouichi, I would be trying to tap that ass ASAP because people are dying left and right and I don't know how long I might have with Mei.

Shit is going to be FUCKING REAL next episode, judging from what was teased in the next episode PV.

So much spoiler text.
Lots of good information though.

Baseless Another speculation:
The order that the characters appear in the ED is the order that they die/died in. Yes, I realize the main character shows up first.

This is already disproved.

After Meganekko dies, it's Horror Nurse, who doesn't appear in the ED at all! And then after that it's Mr. HNNNNNGH, who isn't the next person who appears in the ED after Meganekko! He doesn't appear in the ED either!

FMA milos finale spoilers

The only way out of this that I was able to think of was the possibility that
Ashley had not actually ever died but was only near death when Julia healed his wounds and restored his face. This could be why we only saw a momentary glimpse of The Gate--he was prevented from dying, but not actually restored to life, and so Julia merely skirted the edges of a true human transmutation. I think that terrible writing is the far more likely culprit, but part of me still wants to find a reasonable way of reconciling everything. They just didn't give a fuck about staying true to the spirit of equivalent exchange and allowed an utterly evil person to go free in the name of a happy ending.

but isn't it stated right at the end? On the train Ed says to Mustang that Ashley wasn't actually dead, so that wasn't human transmutation after all. Also remember there was no "eye". I guess the Gate glimpse was actually that, a glimpse and not a full-immersion-meet-Truth-kun like Ed and the others have. Julia paid both with the exhaustion of her PS (something like Pride when using dead-Gold Tooth to perform human transmutation) AND her leg 'cause the PS wasn't sufficient to restore health to her brother.
as for the rest of your complaints (also duckroll's), i agree pretty much agree with the ending being a bit too
concerned with giving Julia and Milos a happy ending, somewhat not staying true to the fullmetal heart lesson.
Sure Julia was taught something, but the lesson could have been much more meaningful. That's why i find the ending to the manga so much more powerful and felt. The movie was really really near in attaining the same "feel" i got from the end of the manga but ultimately it blew every chance it had to do so.
but i liked it regardless, it was the finest output of good animation bones has done in a long time (since sword of the stranger actually).

Random thing I failed to mention about Another 06:

The gender of the Misaki who died 26 years ago was confirmed to be a boy. He was named Misaki Yomiyama. His first name was Misaki, which rules out Mei Misaki (same name order, see the difference?) being a relative!

We will see.
If Megane-kun dies next, your theory might hold water.

I just hope AGE's failure doesnt cause them to cut back on G-Reko or the Origin or anything else, Gundam's on a bit of a high lately with Unicorn, the 40th anniversary, a bunch of great games etc. This failure is all on Hino

I was thinking how much I was gonna hate Tsubasa but then I had to thank her for providing this amazing chase scene. That was awesome.

The show has been pretty steady in terms of quality, imo. The issues and obstacles Yukino and Arima have been facing have been pretty entertaining to watch. I knew sooner or later those problems
(such as teachers not accepting their relationship, jealousy from other classmates, an old friend of Arima, etc.)
would soon rear it's ugly head after it seemed like smooth sailing for them for a while. I'm really enjoying this so far and it's shaping up to be one of my favorite romantic comedies.
