Living in the shadow of Amaz
Mawaru-Penguindrum 10

Just as I predicted!

Now that
the teacher is gone,
I started liking Ringo.

The one who annoys me now is the
one-line lady.

Seems Naru's dilemmas earlier on works as precedent so Usagi's despair doesn't feel out of place.
Guess we're inching towards serious mode.
Son of a bitch. It was actually pretty cool seeing her more herself and snapping out of her funk to save Minako then they went and fucked it all up.

Sailor Moon 37

Thank goodness Usagi had toast in her mouth as she ran late for school. I might not have believed her cries of being late without it. Luna's revelation in the arcade was pretty amazing although I suppose I should have figured that out beforehand. It's impressive just how clever Kunzite is too. If he was as hands-on as Zoisite, he'd be able to handle things with little issue although I suppose he considers them beneath him. There seemed to be more facial shading on Kunzite and Endymion than normal this episode that was really off-putting.

Sailor Moon 38

Nice little ep that focused on the growth of the friendship between Rei and Usagi.

Sailor Moon 39

I can sort of buy the hair salon scheme. I was on board with the moon princess contest in the previous episode. Figure skating as a lure? Nah. The entrance conditions? Even less so. I suppose it made a little more sense once the episode got going but still pushing it. I suppose it was nice to see Jupiter get a bit of the spotlight but I'd prefer they not the hungup on an ex thing into the ground even though the final scene was pretty funny. Tuxedo Mask on Ice enhanced the episode too. So cool!

Sailor Moon 40

I was wondering if they'd ever return to a focus on her family in light of everything. Demon in this might be my favorite design yet. What a wonderfully expressive face.

Sailor Moon 41

Oh hey a nice callback to things here. I'm a bit tenative at the idea of
ressurecting the Seven Youma... again
but I'm willing to give it a shot as I expected this sort of thing in a previous episode.
Shame they didn't go through with it. It was a sound plan. :( And fuck that, she nearly had Mamoru back!

Sailor Moon 42

Episode setting up for some rare Sailor Venus backstory? I'm ok with this. Since when did that pen act as anything more than a disguise tool either? Letting go of Venus' past was a bit too literal in the end.

Sailor Moon 43

Not a bad plan by Usagi but what I question most is why she has her own stationery. She had this weird widehead thing going in a certain frame though that bothered me more than it should.

Sailor Moon 44

Aw shit, they find the entrance and get right down to business then Kunzite fucks everything up. Again.
Silver Millenium backstory was fabulous though. Never considered Tuxedo Mask's costume was a practical necessity at one point rather than just being stylish.
Beautiful ep all around aside from the present day Luna/Artemis scenes which left me a little disoriented as to when they actually occured (until the end.)
What a way for Kunzite to go out :(

Sailor Moon 45

I make it a point to skip the spoilerific episode titles yet I missed this one. I mean I've heard what happens but I'd forgotten until just now. FML
Fucking hell at Jupiter's last gasp. So fucking good. And then Mercury slapping Usagi! And then Mercury... :( And Minako :( And Rei :(
Where the hell did all this intensity come from?

Sailor Moon 46

The first thing that stands out to me about this ep is just how fast and ferocious Beryl captures Usagi. Watched it more than once out of appreciation for how well done that was. Then directly to Endymion kissing Beryl's hand and beating Usagi down. The show is wasting no time here as neither the viewer nor Usagi herself is granted a reprieve from everything falling apart until Usagi does the unthinkable. I expected the attempt to save him but I suppose I still wasn't prepared for it. Quite the touching moment. The final battle with the powered up Beryl was fantastic. As hesitant as I am to use the phrase, Usagi finally realized her full potential to an impressive result. Great use of the OP music therein too. Aw man, memory loss to wrap it all up? I suppose this'll end up an ultimate test as to just how deep their friendships ran.
Last three episodes were fantastic. Top tier stuff.

Going into this show, I had little expectation. I'd heard it was great over the years and even caught bits and pieces of the US broadcast (I know, I know) but never really gave it much thought. My misconception was that the series played it all straight in some sort of monster of the week formula. In reality I was treated to something special in a series that rarely took itself too seriously, began more like a parody of what I expected it to be, and even when it finally made its way down that path, it never abandoned the comedic overtones. The character interactions were probably the best thing about this series as the friendships grew and Usagi herself became more acclimated to her role although I derived a particular satisfaction from Usagi developing more independance rather than being as utterly reliant on Luna and Tuxedo Mask as she was early on. All around a fanastic show and I'm eager to hop into R.

Chihayafuru 23:
Pretty good episode with a nice mix of different stuff. We got to see some good karuta drama between the supporting characters (and Harada being awesome), the characters actually doing stuff other than simply practicing for tournaments (and Taichi's 'class party' bit was hilarious), and some good development on the romance front. I liked seeing so much of Arata this week.

I don't want the show to end. :(

Not hating Skypiea then, right? Good, it's a neat arc even if it isn't Arabasta-tier.

Still not sure why everyone thinks arabasta was so good
I got tired of the poorly animated (long as hell) battle and the princess whiney voice!
some things are better in manga form and the
omg the bombs going to explode in a minute! (but take a whole episode)
is one of these things

The Light of El Cantare
I think the whole aspect of exploring a whole new settings and life was worth it. Plus the arc did show some new aspects of One Piece powers and another plot related event.

I find Skypiea to be slow while you're watching it, but really rewarding in retrospect. There are still mysteries established in the arc that have yet to be explored, and so the longer you follow One Piece the more you realize just how amazing Oda's ability to foreshadow things years in advance is. It doesn't help that it's kind of a visually boring arc in spite of the exotic locale, but the fights more than make up for that.

Also Conis is pretty hnnnnnng and is sadly forgotten among OP girls:

People are highly susceptible to melodramatic emotional manipulation across all mediums, though.

Maybe it seems to saturate anime more because almost everything is implicitly or explicitly written for a teenage level of comprehension? Dunno.

Yeah, along these lines I was going to propose that a possibility for the high ratings of unsubtle melodramas is the average age of the people watching these series, which is lower than we might expect. If, say, 13-year-olds relatively new to anime are watching Clannad After Story or AnoHana and haven't had enough experience with tragedy in fiction to be able to discriminate between the good and the bad, this is probably driving the series' ratings and then snowballing when more people new to anime see these shows on top ten lists and watch them for themselves.

Or this could be totally wrong and I'm just desperately trying to rationalize why everyone loves AnoHana :(

not really sure why would find it slow, within the first episode the strawhats have run with wiper, meet knight of the sky,get fined for not paying the old gate woman and meet conis ,by the third or fourth they get separated with the arc kicking off in semi full gear in the next two episodes.

Visually wise it’s really great(don’t know what your talking about there) you have the sea of white clouds nami surfing on her waver with lots of different weird sky creatures , sky island town, fairy vearth which is made of a dense jungle with cloud rivers running through it, Aztec like ancient ruin and a great big bean stock in the center in the multilayer land

It’s a lot more interesting then alabasta and beautiful

Nah, the best thing to come out of AnoHana is that gif of them reading
the REAL notes/letters Menma left for them.

Such a quality show visually.
Probably the most annoying thing about it though for me, is that the show is supposed to be about soccer, but the people working on it seems to know nothing about it. Well, maybe they do, and the fault resides solely on the original material they are adapting, but still... you can't keep showing plays that consist in a player running for the whole area ball on foot and scoring, no passes no nothing, running past people like that.
They aren't fucking Baggio.
