It's been mediocre at best thus far, but it looks like it's gearing up for something of actual substance in the coming weeks. Cross your fingers.

Fingers crossed
for more pilot outfits and less boring looking mechs past ep. 1

I thought Xam'd I pretty good but I would have been much better if they made it longer. I hope to god that Eureka AO is longer then 12 episodes. With bones I feel their shows are much better when they are dragged out then rushed.

I'll watch it, just not yet I guess. And I don't really like watching series that are longer than 26 or so episodes, so 12 would be nice! No dragging it out BONES onegai.

Clara is so cute it almost makes me not hate jellyfish.

I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed the first two episodes. Maybe part of it was just the contrast between this and Glass Fleet, but I had a big dumb smile on my face for most of it. Something about the cast is just clicking, though; making your antiscoial shut-ins female otaku, instead of male, winds up making it feel fresh.

The OP is fantastic, too.

What a boring ass episode. At least it looks like they finally remembered to put mechas in their mecha show if that preview is anything to go by.

Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Love(craft-sensei) 1-12 END

Gee, thank's for the heads up! And hey, it would have been even better if you also warned me about the Ending being about as long as the actual show itself!!! Thankfully the rather self aware nature of the show actually made this fairly enjoyable, even though I really don't care about Lovecraft or the Cthulhu Mythos at all.

Sailor Moon 10

Sailor Mars appears! Now for the important part:

Sailor Moon's transformation > Sailor Mars's > Sailor Mercury's

Ok, with that out of the way, we can get to the important part of this episode, NTR.
Tuxedo Mask needs to stop wooing young girls or else this will turn into a harem.

Already, you can see a bit of a rivalry brewing between Rei and Usagi, which seems to be the focus of the next episode, based on the preview.

Did Sailor Mars start the tradition of the Red magical girl being hotblooded and getting fire powers? Rei seems to be a bit clumsy as well, though that could have just been Jadeite interfering with her powers.

Out of curiosity, what good material would you say Shaft has ruined?

I probably should not have said ruined. They just make every adaptation Shafty and most of they series they are adapting do not fit with Shafts style. The biggest offender recently would be Dance in the Vampire Bund. They totally changed it for their style and they took out everything I liked about the manga. Another would be Arakawa Under the Bridge, they made their style overwhelm everything else though I did enjoy it more then Dance. Finally any SHAFT sequal except for Nisomonogatari. Bakemonogatari does fit with with Shaft's style so I can enjoy that. It would benefit Shaft if they just make a original animu with their style.

I don't think length was the problem. Had they made Xam'd's boring second half even longer I would've dropped it. The show should've focused on the amazing airship battles/slice-of-life-ish pacing that the first half did a great job of.

Dead

well not really...yet
Xam'd was a series where individual episodes often shined, but the whole makes no sense whatsofuckingever.

Taking episodes on their own and judging their individual merits, the material shines. Looking at it as one whole cohesive work, and its a total clusterfuck.

This is a pretty good summary of Xam'd.
the episodes where the MC had the mask and was with the old lady where great. I also loved the episodes where his best friend when insane and then killed himself in a insane way

Mirai Nikki 21

Yes! They nailed
Minene's death
. They fuckin nailed it! Though I don't like that they cut out the short scene of the
stars disappearing
but it's not important.

The insanity is just gonna keep escalating from here. One of my favorite scenes of all time in anything ever is coming up, possibly even next episode. REALLY hope they don't ruin it with censorship even if it does get fixed by the BDs.

Also, this face is amazing:

5 episodes to go with 12 chapters to cover. Definitely doable.

I think Madoka was more than what it looked like, but not necessarily simply amazing. Additionally, it was difficult to talk about with ruining what made it so special, which contributed towards its perception.

Haibane Renmei is sufficiently melodramatic and yet it doesnt crack the top ten. Thats the biggest problem with the list. HR is actually great though.

I'm used to seeing some pretty terrible top ten anime lists, but I think I'm always most puzzled by the frequent presence of Clannad After Story. Not just because of my anti-KyoAni hipsterism and my distaste for harems, I'm always baffled about why this particular series seems to be considered BEST EVAR by so many anime watchers.

I'm pretty sure it's because
his wife dies, SO SAD. And then his kid dies too, but then they come back to life or something.
I'm not sure, I haven't watched it, I just know the general idea of what happens.

I think that's what I took away from it as well. Some of the smaller, isolated stories were great.

The Light of El Cantare
Lol too much time on my hands the past few days. going to try and finish tonight and tomorrow.
I had never done a marathon for a series over 24 episodes.

You sound like me when I was marathoning 400 episodes of One Piece a couple of years ago. I was so easily manipulated by the cliffhangers that I was downing 15-20 episodes a day at my peak. You should try tackling that next and see how long you last, hah.

ahahaha, oh man, no way. I might have to watch this eventually.

Definitely a good series to marathon. The pacing is really good in the anime.

Kinda wish it had some more downtime episodes though.

Been considering giving One Piece a shot.

Literature Girl, why you are so great?
Pretty good episode. I liked the slipping one, and pretty much Literature Girl stuff in general. Karasawa was the best of course.

Not hating Skypiea then, right? Good, it's a neat arc even if it isn't Arabasta-tier.

It's just weak for One Piece, and OP at its worst is still pretty good. It's the first big adventure arc that doesn't touch on the main conflict all that much, and most people are surprised by this coming off of Arabasta (I'll admit, I was too.)

I think the whole aspect of exploring a whole new settings and life was worth it. Plus the arc did show some new aspects of One Piece powers and another plot related event.

I'm not really sure anime fans are more susceptible to melodramatic emotional manipulation. That type of stuff pervades all media. Maybe the melodrama is lower quality in anime, but those types of stories are everywhere.
