Yamakan announces Project Blossom at Tokyo Anime Fair 2012. Blossom is a charity anime project that he has been working on with contributors both in Japan and overseas. The first entry in Blossom is a 5 minute long animation piece about an old man watching a winged girl restore life to a desolate wasteland. The music for this piece is provided by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Anime looking as good as the concept art.

Lololololol.

I don't think that's concept art. It sounds like it's already complete and they screened it. I dunno.
If that is how it looks animated...

I don't know, but my reaction will be pretty drastic.

Maybe Yamakan can save anime this time (or at least he always really seems like he cares a lot about anime in interviews).

He had good intentions with Fractale, but it was Fractale.

Anime can't be saved in 5 minutes, unfortunately. Things run too deep.

We're doing our winter rankings now?

Moeretsu Pirates
Ano Natsu

Smile Precure
Brushy Brushy

Yeah, I'm forgetting a lot, but I guess that just speaks to the lacklustreness of Winter.

FFFUUUUUU. MY GOD this wasn't what I was expecting it to be (in a good way!). I wasn't familiar with the works of Koike, so I did a bit of research after I finished watching it, and it's his directorial debut and was in production for over 7 years! It's no wonder they put a lot of faith in him, because the animation is simply sublime. Madhouse did a fantastic job with Koike at the helm and what resulted was a stunning piece of work where attention to detail was top priority.

The character designs are wacky and while the main characters were fairly simple archetypes, the story and the characters are the last thing on your mind. The races are filled with crazy, adrenaline-pumping action that fill you with tension and excitement. I really haven't seen anything like it before.

Also, I loved how it looked more like a comic book in motion than an anime.

The asshole shop owner bets on JP!

Redline if nothing else, is a joy just to watch in action.
Its fun eye candy.

I liked the story as well, and the way they slowly built up the relationship between JP and Sonoshee. One scene that stood out in particular was
when JP crashes his bike after visiting Sonoshee and his life flashes before his eyes, and you see all his memories of Sonoshee when he was younger.

Though yes, the animation of Redline is simply amazing.

the AKB preview had some nice background art, and some awful CG. Come on, Satelight, you can do better than that. :(

Announcing “blossom” – Yutaka Yamamoto’s Charity Anime
Dedicated to the Memory of Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster

TOKYO, Japan – Ordet Co.,Ltd. (CEO, Yutaka Yamamoto) today announced “Project blossom”, a charity work dedicated to the memory of Japan’s 3.11 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster. A short work of animation set to music, “Project blossom” will be formally launched at an event on the Main Stage at the Tokyo Anime Fair on Saturday March 24th, 2012.

The real-life locations sometimes featured in Japanese animation, or “anime”, have recently become popular tourist attractions. Anime director Yutaka Yamamoto discovered this effect when one of the works he directed, Kannagi Crazy Shrine Maidens, brought attention to the Shichigahama area in Japan’s Miyagi prefecture. This area was hit hard by the 3.11 disaster, and Yamamoto continuously visited the Tohoku area many times to participate in volunteer work.

Exactly one year after the disaster, Yamamoto has directed and created a short animated film about the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that reminds us not to forget those who were directly affected.

“Project blossom” represents the culmination of an unprecedented collaboration between many artists, both domestic and overseas. The producers hope that this high-quality animated film will help bring hope and a spirit of renewal to the Tohoku area.

The world premiere screening of “blossom” will be shown at the Tokyo Animation Fair on March 24th, 2012. To learn more about this charity animation, please come and visit our event in Tokyo.

The Fujiko site has updated to apologize for the terrible handling of the Ustream event. They totally fucked up and ruined it for everyone online. They are planning to put a recorded version of the event online within a few days, but they cannot confirm a date yet. Lolz.

One Piece 2

Coby needs to die

Luffy is still annoying

Zoro is a bro, first good thing to show up.

This episode was definitely better than the first, though that's not saying much.

1. Bodacious Space Pirates (best anime series in the last two years)
2. Tantei Opera Milky Holmes II (solid second season)

3. Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing (despite significant issues, it makes the list anyway) (continuing series from last season, finishing this season)
4. Daily Lives of High School Boys (decently funny, at times)
5. High School DxD (partially good, partially bad)
6. Kill Me Baby (stupid-funny)
7. Brave 10 (mediocre)

Would be on the list if I watched it more often, like I should be: Chihayafuru

Don't make the list, but I watched at least part of an episode of: Zero no Tsukaima F, Rinne no Lagrange, Senki Zesshou Symphogear, Smile Precure 4

You put Brave 10 up there?

I guess my list is.
1. Aquarion Evol
2. Gundam Seed HD
3. Senki Zesshou Symphogear
4. Mouretsu Pirates
5. Another
6. Daily Lives of Highschool Boys
7. Rinne no Lagrange
8. Area no Kishi
9. New Prince of Tennis
10. Brave 10

Including continuing, Phi Brain would be 1, followed by Aquarion Evol, Guilty Crown, Sket Dance, and Gundam Age.

One Piece 107 - 110

I remember this was one of the points where I started to dislike Luffy
when he lost badly against Crocodile. Though I guess it was to be expected since he was a Seven Warlord of the Sea, or rather a Shichibukai
