I might see it if it is still playing next Tuesday. The theaters in my area are not really that great, even the one with digital projectors.
Gotta decide if I want to drive 60+ miles to the nearest theater that's showing it... =\
I'll probably go some time early next week. I finally found a couple of theaters in the area that are showing it.

The Law of Ueki - END
This is not a good show. But somehow it ended up not being an especially bad show either. In the final analysis, it is a mediocre show that could have been much better had it been in the hands of a capable director and studio.
The worst part of the show is unquestionably the visuals. Occasionally the direction and animation is competent or even good, but the overall visual design never, ever stops being appallingly bad. The color scheme is so atrociously ugly that it is difficult to people the people selecting it had functioning eyes. In the opening episodes, when the story is underdeveloped and the characters uninteresting, there is no redeeming value to the show whatsoever.
But eventually the content becomes more engaging, and by the underworld mansion arc it settles into a nice groove that it's able to keep up for much, if not all, of the rest of the show. The quirky powers and battle setups, the back-and-forth strategies, the dash of self-awareness - these elements are fun to watch. And while I complained about the backstories, many of which seemed forced, a couple of them turned out to be pretty good and effective.
I would have liked to see the Gintama team take a crack at this material (ideally with a bigger budget than Gintama's). With the strengths they've shown in that show, I feel they would be able to bring out Ueki's full potential. Adding either Gintama's more extensive self-awareness or the raw spirit it has in the serious arcs would have helped Ueki in the places it plays its battle shounen tropes of training and power-ups straight, which frequently get dull.
Although I do not regret watching this show, it has too many flaws for me to recommend it to anyone else. Parts of this are well worth seeing, but I have to imagine they would come off better in the original manga, which doesn't have DEEN's incompetence weighing it down.

If Im understanding right, were they "training" Shu to get his power stronger just to steal it, or is this just still in their plan to get him stronger. We dont have the motives of his mom nor the other guy clarified which is quite compelling. Artificial hand incoming?
With these events hopefully we can cut off the stupid members of the cast, Yahiro didnt betray so hopefully he meets up with Shu and Inori next episode, Souta was alright, and the previous student council president was just as dumb as the other glorified decoy's.

That was a really good episode. They cut back on the drama and angst and I really like the focus on the characters. And she was this close to realizing she had the feelings. There were less sparkles today and instead more adorableness.

That was the ballsiest harem I've ever seen. It really answers the question, "What if everyone in a harem anime just acted on their desires and obsessions?" On one hand, I'm glad the lead was the complete opposite of the limp dicks that harems usually get stuck with, on the other hand, he got nasty with every girl, was confronted with the consequences and overall, the guy was a dick.
I enjoyed it. Edit: Although,
I was expecting the ending to be more violent. Like Elfen Lied levels of violent. But then, none of the girls had vectors and the like.

Well after Guilty Crown episode 17 and rewatching the OP,
seems shu does get an artificial hand capable of pulling out voids, at least when hes pulling it out of Inori and then swings it. I wonder who gives him that ability, since hes down to just three allies now

fortunately school days hq comes out in english this year so there's plenty more to look forward to!
I absolutely do not regret watching it. I may have to keep an eye on Arjuna (seems like eBay is currently the optimal method of acquiring a copy of it).

The self-awareness is something Fukuchi Tsubasa is really good at while still being able to pull off effective serious scenes when he tries. He and Sorachi definitely have that in common at least. I think if/when Anagle Mole (his current series) gets an anime, it would be quite good provided the right studio is involved.

I kind of wish that it didn't take all episode to set up the
plot, but Kaoru and Junichi's interactions are fun to watch regardless. Although Junichi will always be a horny teenager in any multiverse, he acts closer to being a good friend than a lover with Kaoru compared to the other waifus (
) and it's a nice change of pace for him not to be so nervous around a girl for once. Tomboys make great girlfriends.
