So my anime club actually showed Revolutionary Girl Utena. I hope people vote on it next week, but the first episode was absolutely FABUUUUULOUS.

Symbolism out the ass.

You guys might want to watch a few more episodes first before voting. Once you've seen the identical animation of Utena walking up those stairs in every episode some people might reconsider their votes.

We were all told it was a 90s anime. I'm pretty sure everyone in the room understands 90s anime means two things: stock footage, and Freudian imagery.

Yeah, no.

Eh? That really only works if you narrow it down to the magical girl genre, in which that more or less still applies to this day.
Well, maybe. The Black Rose arc increases the amount of repeated animation from 8 minutes per episode to 14! If you couldn't handle it the first 12 episodes, the following set will be utterly intolerable!
I'm glad that I bailed out when I did!

Mirai Nikki 16:

Catching up on last week's episode even as this week's has already aired.

Not much to say, the manga material in this episode was again straightforward and it was adapted in a completely straightforward manner. What's important is that the
Showdown in the Tower and it's aftermath
will likely occupy an entire episode and maybe then some so they were able to start the opening part of it in this episode. Heads up people, a bunch of really real shit is about to happen and things are about to change again!

As long as they don't ruin the
Akise headless
scene, the shit getting real will be amazing animated.

Black★Rock Shoother (TV) 1:

Wait, what? Since when did B★RS change from a sweet story about friendship to a bunch of creepy stalker shit? Seriously, what the fuck is with these people? Welcome to Creepytown, Population: Everyone! I'm pretty sure I'm being trolled here, everything good about the OVA was changed and made worse for the TV show. The real world sequences now feature creepy and fucked-up stalker versions of everybody, except poor Mato and Yomi. The Otherworld sequences now feature B★RS being brutally mutilated by a mechanical giant enemy crab.

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I blame Mari Okada. The same director and most of the rest of the staff from Ordet return. The 3DCG sequences are actually very impressively animated, you basically almost can't tell it's CG. But damn man, someone took B★RS and turned it into a fucking Stephen King novel, this shit is fucked up.

Mari Okada is not a creative writer, she just churns out what the people in charge tell her to.

She is already trying to save face, in an interview duckroll posted a few pages ago she said something along the lines of "for the scenario, I'm taking suggestions from everyone in the staff".

She flat out told people to not blame her this time around, saying something along the lines of "for the scenario, I'm taking suggestions from everyone in the staff".

Someone needs to be blamed for that garbage, I don't care who. The OVA I really enjoyed has been mutilated into whatever the hell this TV show is.

I don't remember that much stock footage, particularly anything in league with Utena.

That's because it tries to not call attention to itself; it's not really stylistic but rather "money-saving".

Let's not all paint 90's anime with the same brush, okay?

Wombs are pretty Freudian.

Yeah what's with her consuming entertainment targeted at children.

I'm complaining about the fact that this was the one thing she specified when introducing herself to the class. I guess that you gotta simplify character traits when you start with 5 girls...

What the hell kind of attitude is that?
Anime is a glorious use of my time. Its one of the best uses of my time that I can think of.
I could have learned and mastered at least two languages if I had used my anime-time into actually studying stuff.
Rinne no Lagrange 05:

Can I make a confession? I'm only watching this show for Madoka and Lan.
Fuck you.
This looks cute as fuck.
Watch Heartcatch instead.
From what I've seen of MLP, which isn't much, it seems fairly progressive.
I wouldn't say progressive. It's just a cartoon for girls that doesn't treat its audience like babies and/or shallow materialistic pigs.
Muginami just looks bad.
Fuck you too.
I hope VG pulls an Akio somewhere in the series.

I want to feel that pain again, and he looks capable.
I didn't know you were into netorare.
Rinne no Lagrange 5

Another episodes in which Muginami upstages boring Lan.
Fuck yeah, FUCK YEAH!

Personally I've already decided that whoever OK'd this shot is at fault for everything.

Just trying to make the character relatable to the intended audience.

Kind of boring episode
At least tons of mecha next episode and izo/array
. I couldnt help but notice the clouds in the episode they seemed to stick out so much, like low lying 2d flat ones, was weird yet stylish in a weird way.

The OVA was more like 4/5 good and 1/5 stupid Advent Children esque with no sense of consequence boring trite.

I liked the other world scenes. They were short enough to avoid becoming stale and they were actual 2D animation.

Didn't notice this earlier, but what's up with her fingers. The way that left one is placed makes it seem like she has 6 lol.
I didn't even notice her fingers, I was too busy staring at the hideously awful car.

Well, to be fair, I figure MLP is pretty heteronormative as well. I just wonder if there are women in Japan who complain about Precure the same way that women here complain about Barbie.

I dunno, the mere fact that the Pretty Cure characters use, when Toei has budget to spare, martial arts to fight against their enemies makes it more "progressive" than most little-girl magical girl anime.

Violence != Progressiveness

The piece would have been a lot stronger without them (except for the last one, I guess). I will agree they were very well-animated.

I dunno, I think it would have gotten pretty dull without them. Nothing spices up a show like violence against women(perpetrated by women).

~boring declaration of your boredom~ Boring Space Not-Pirates 5:

Why am I still watching this? Why does this show have the dramatic flair of Das Boot? I mean, The Hunt for Red October was bad enough, now they are channelling Das Boot. Let me get this straight. So your spaceship fires an energy weapon past another spaceship, AND IT RATTLES WHEN THAT HAPPENS? What the fuck is this? It's not like when you're in a submarine and a torpedo explodes near your sub and the whole sub shakes! YOU'RE IN SPACE! YOU AREN'T EVEN PASSING THROUGH ANY KIND OF MEDIUM LIKE WATER, IT'S VACUUM! AND THEY ARE FIRING A FUCKING LASER AT YOU, IT DOESN'T DISTORT THE NONEXISTENT MEDIUM YOU ARE IN WHICH COULD CAUSE THE OTHER FUCKING SHIP TO BE AFFECTED UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY SCORE A DIRECT HIT ON IT!

God, I thought the Wing Commander movie was terrible at this. This show is just dumbest thing I've ever seen at this. Rather, I should say, it's the DAMBEST thing I've ever seen. Ready the DAMMY systems for electronic warfare!

So it's not even good science fiction?

You could always drop this.

Phi Brain 18:

Is that Taketatsu Ayana I hear? I do believe that's Taketasu Ayana I'm hearing. As an imouto no less. Yes, I've been corrupted.

Nonoha... what on EARTH are you doing? Also, return of the idol giver chick.
So much for all that friendship talk the previous episode. The second Kaito actually really needs them around and they all bail sans Nonoha. Granted, Gammon's change of heart is the only one that makes sense in that he wants to protect the others from the danger of an Orpheus-possessed Kaito (especially Nonona). That puzzle was really intense though, and it's nice to see some actual character drama with Gammon changing sides.

I like how everyone in the thread thinks HanaIro is some terrible pandering show because 7th is perpetuating this body pillow thing as if not all anime get this kind of merchandising.
