Winter of Anime 2013 |OT -6| How much lower can we go?!

I like the two new characters, but now that things have really kicked in they feel underutilized. Maybe that's just because the series switched into a wacky sidestory of Arata's Con Artist Adventures.

yeah, they probably will be in the backburner for a little while until they get good enough to compete in the tougher competitions.

I don't think he'll be disqualified, because it would basically prove the Queen right that playing in the team tournament is pointless, which would kind of undercut the whole theme of the episode.

pretty much. tempted to start reading the manga to see how arata gets himself out of this mess.

Maturity, bitches.
That's what I do, too.
Then I go back and read them.
I really should do that but after I catch up on a thread I tend to stick to the present.

May have to go back to read the Wolf Children impressions mind since I bailed out of the thread briefly when they were talking about it.

Those results are pretty fascinating especially the dichotomy between the people who place such value in more meaningful and substantial posts and those who take a more casual and laid back approach to posting in this thread. I think there's room for both of these to varying degrees but sometimes when those two sides overlap there is some definite friction in this community that I've noticed. That said, I guess it might be expected as this is pretty much the catch-all community when it comes to anime on this site.
Basically how it is. Still people on one side can joke around and the other can be serious at times, which is frankly my favorite parts about this thread.
Some shows, it's hard to write more than one line about. Especially stuff like, say, slice of life shows. I'm loving Hidamari Sketch, for instance, but it's hard to come up with more than a sentence or two about each episode. It's just not the kind of show you can write at length about. Or at least I can't. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

I don't see anything wrong with one-line impressions. Unless you're paying me p/word I don't owe anybody else a certain length of writing. And, you know, they're my impressions after all.

True, but I figure impressions are not just for yourself and those who have already seen the show, but they also give a glimpse to those who haven't seen it yet. Just look at the many people recently that have taken up watching iDOLM@STER and Toradora. Sometimes I feel that one sentence impressions sell the shows short, good or bad.

The results of the survey so far are pretty muchwha I thought,. There's really two animeGAfs there. Cohabitation is toughsometimes, but overall, it'S fun, so I'm not complaining.

Cardfight!! Vaguard - Asia Circuit 75: Misaki... How about changing your deck? I'm impressed at how Kamui grew up between the seasons. Good for him. Also
psyqualia
is back, though it was to be expected sooner or later

Jojo 22: This race was so enjoyable. Jojo is the embodiement of coolness. Now show me some
naked
Lisa Lisa.

I always make one or two sentence episode review, because I want to give my general feeling while avoiding spoilers. I post for those who would like to watch the show and wonder about the overall expression it gives. Hwever spoiler reviews can also be interesting for people NOT intending to watch the show later, so both of them have their purpose, I guess.

Edit: damn slow posters that make me double post! :p

More than four images is just not really bad its just a hassle for scrolling and occasionally locks up my browser(s) though annoying when the the no hotlinking allowed thing is present. especially when its Msyu.
Actually it is .. People don't think about those who might read this thread from their smartphones.
I have no problem with Hd pictures but when a post weight more than a 1meg without gifs, there is a problem.
If you Know you're gonna use plenty of pictures , either link them or resize them. You took time to take the damn snapshot and upload , it , resizing them is something you can do even with MS PAINT.

1 or 2 pictures is fine no big deal , but if you're gonna post lenghty impressions with plenty of pictures, juste take the time to think of those who might be reading.

That WAS the plot to 00. Now it's "Hey we haven't done anything hilariously stupid with our Gundams today, LET'S GO GET IN A FIGHT WITH THE WORLD. I mean, aren't these guys supposed to be fighting war? How in God's name do they get caught with their pants down by the largest military movement in the history of the world?
Actually no , their goal is to unify the world , and that begins by stopping the chain of conflicts across the globe. They just choose to do it by force since hey it's the faster way.
Even if they are considered a threat.
I have to disagree. Nobody in this show acts reasonably. You have Gauron-rip-off who is in it for the evulz, you have probably-going-to-be-Char who is in it because he's gay for Gundams, you have little girl Zeheart who does what she's told (and somehow never gets knocked for riding a pink mobile suit?) and Saji Waste of Goddamn Time Crossroads who exists to prove to us all that FFXII's Vaan was a well written character.
I don't like saji , but his role is to show how the world change thanks to the actions of the cast ( for better or worse ).
The first season take a global conflict approach and that's why it's intresting. His role is to be the normal guy caught in the mess.

As for the wanabe gauron ..there aren't enough character like that in anime when you're dealing with war ... People enjoying war, making profit with war and wanting war to happen are actually realist people that unfortunatly exist IRL and that make his character even if he is exagerated much better to watch as an antagonist than a durandal or an ezelcant that wish for an utopia that won't work in the long term.
I beg to differ here. Destiny's plot is straightforward: Peace didn't work out the way everyone wanted it to, and Durandal is pulling the strings behind it all to get what he wants. 00, on the other hand, is again, "Let's go kill like, twenty guys in Somalia! That'll stop war!"
The plot was "let's prevent manipulation of information leading to civil war, that'll stop war for a moment".
The plot wasn't to kill people but to stop those manipulating others to fight for their own benefit.
Exploited war children is again a theme totally new in gundam and even if they went too far with it . it's something much more realist than the happy go lucky world that hapenned when a country was destroyed in other shows.
I'm not looking to defend Destiny's mostly terrible cast, but let's not pretend that anybody in 00 is any better.

[...]
Let me know when 00 actually starts to have people. And for the record, the following characters don't count, because they're lifted directly from Full Metal Panic!:
Setsuna F. Seiei- Sousuke Sagara
Lockon Stratos- Kurz Weber
Ali Sanchez or whatever- Gauron

God, this show is almost as unoriginal as Rah Xephon.
Sorry if full metal panic , despite his alien stuff had actually war , information manipulation and 2 organisations clashing.
Funny how you can draw parallels when they treat the same subject.

Ms. Sumiragi is one of the only likeable cast members. The problem I have is her job description is cockamamie. How does one forecast tactics? It's not the weather. You plan out missions, that's tactics. You can bet and even mathmagic what the enemy will do, sure, but you don't say "It's gonna be cloudy with a chance of sniper over this hillock here!"

But that's her job .. her goal is to turn each event at their advantage and to think x moves ahead .. that's why she works with a freaking super computer that analyse information.
How do you expect to win anything if you can't predict and anticipate the unknow ? Especially if the world is your ennemy ! You have to spy at everything anticipate alliances and think of counter mesures ...
I would understand the conplain if she was alone but she is backed by the entire celestial being network and a centuries-ahead computer dedicated to this task.

Forecast for weather are done the exact same way. You gather information , you run it in various scenarios run by a super computer ..and then you let a human check it. Once it's good you give that info to the public.

Funnily enough, I do remember having the opposite problem of one sentence posts a little back. I watched Wolf Children Saturday night but didn't get around to posting until Monday but by then there were a million lengthy impression posts and I didn't want to clog it up with yet another WC post. Probably an outlier since WC was pretty huge but just a thought about how there can be too many thoughtful impressions sometimes.

Is it just me or did the Wolf Children thread die after a few initial impressions? I subscribed to it and I haven't seen it in a long time.

Yeah, it's impossible to win against the title character in a show like this, but still... goddamn it. At least she didn't have to deal with a direct rejection from him.
There aren't enough shows out there that seem to have believable relationship development, or if there are I just haven't found them all yet.

They're really going to stretch this out for two more episodes, huh.

I'd think that a few of those poll responses were from lurkers because the particular brand of hostility doesn't exactly match anyone that I'm familiar with here, but I know that's not possible because Arti put the link behind a quote :lol

I think I was having a bad night when I responded to the poll.

Yeah I get that, but I feel sometimes having really short one line impressions gives me no idea what the episode or even how the show is like. An example I'd like to use is Robotics;Notes. I know there are people who like it and those that don't, but from what most people post about it, I have no idea why they really do. Or maybe I just don't reactionary .gifs with not context.
Don't start talking about /a/ too much , or they'll start a thread in there bitching that we talk about them.

And then we'll start bitching about them bitching about us bitching about them.

Though I can see the rationale behind wanting to stray away from one-line impressions , not everyone approaches this the same way, and that's why this place is so interesting.

Regardless of length, I think that impressions should be just that, rather than a series of bemusing expressions. I think the main thing is that it carries an opinion, because that's ostensibly what they're there for. I'll never watch everything, so I use the thread to guide me, and hopefully, it leads me to something worthwhile.

If someone talks about something in such a way - whether it be good or bad - my curiosity is usually piqued. It happened most recently with Toradora, where the thread discussion led me to watching it. I only mention this because there are times where I find that certain posts unintentionally discredit the show they're trying to promote, as they convey nothing about its actual content.

There are obviously times were it leans quite heavily one way, but therein lies the dichotomy of having such a huge catch-all community. Not everything will serve everyone, and I think the thread would become static if any particular sort of posting behaviour was curbed. This is obviously something of a reductive assessment, though, and problems do exist, but it's nothing more than an occasional annoyance.

I read this thread from my smartphone a LOT.
There is generally no problem with anyones posts, however I have to be selective with what I reply to solely because neogaf mobile on this phone just does not gel with long posts anyway.
In any case I really do read everything, and I feel that if I am able to do it, there really is not much preventing others from doing it.
its not as though i sit around doing nothing but reading it either. I think people just have gotten a bit complacent with the speed of the internet and instant access to the information they want.
however, this being literally a catch all anime thread, it stands to reason that it will move very quickly and will be filled with everything from episode discussion to waifu talk. thats the nature of anime fans and fandom. It takes little effort to scroll past posts impertinent to personal interest and if my lazy attention deficit self can do it, I know you folks can too.
However I really do love each and every one of you crazy lot and I hope to be part of this community for long into the future.
thank you all for being you.

I always write one or two lines per episode (rarely more) mostly because I'm terrible at media analysis. Anything more than "I enjoyed it" or "I found it boring" is hard for me to describe.

Futari wa Pretty Cure 18

I actually watched this a couple of hours ago, but I fell asleep.

Kiriya is such a monkeybutt. "You don't know how I feel. That caused me a great inconvenience!" FUCK YOU, you pathetic whiny little prick. You had to stop for half a minute and acknowledge the existence of people? Oh yeah, that was totally worth stomping on that girl's heart like that. What the hell do they see in you? You're a douchebag and you're not even that good-lookking. You look like you're on cocaine withdrawal.

I spotted my contribution to the survey, haha. It's definitely interesting stuff.

Sometimes it's a bit stressful trying to figure out what to talk about in an episode, though, I almost feel obligated to try and make my impressions as dense as I can. I guess it's an ego thing more than anything, though. Just writing 'it was good' would probably be easier on me, but a bit unsatisfactory. I always feel like I could have a lot more to say about an episode or a movie or something, but never quite being able to express it in a way I'd really prefer.

Nobody hates the Toonamiers. We just don't like being pointed out that we lack a drive to cooperate and manage a community wide effort like podcasting.

Few days old so ancient in animegaf time.

Hmm. Didn't see it. Shame, would have liked to participate.

Who gave this place a 1? If it's somebody who posts here regularly, I would strongly suggest they take their posting elsewhere for their own sake if they hate it here so much. Unless the person who did it is just trolling. Wouldn't surprise me.

Kudos to Articalys for setting up that survey by the way.

Regardless of what some might say about where AnimeGAF is at the moment, It's pretty refreshing to get an introspective look at the community and see some discussion out of it.

In other news, a new Queen's Blade - Vanquished Queens preview video is up. NSFWish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=X_bGhr7ZZjs

This looks pretty good and judging from that preview Branwen will show up plenty (Tomoe is nice, but I simply love the girl drawn by Oda Non more).

I was 100% sure Branwen was featured in the Queen's Blade Perfect Collection artbook (I remember posting about how cool it was that she was in there) and went looking for her name, and couldn't find her at all. I'm starting to think I dreamed seeing her in the book.
