Nadesico was the best series from the 1990s.

Just shaking my damn head at some of you people in here.
But GaoGaiGar...

Seriously, if you can't take any more nadesico, instead of giving up, skip to episode 12 or 14 and continue from there. Come to think of it, I haven't gone back and finished those episodes I missed yet. I should fix that.

A bunch of idols let a little kid smell them and creepily evaluate their scents and nobody shows one single hint of surprise.

This somehow makes AKB0048 seem sane.

I'm not done with GaoGaiGar yet, but I still think Nadesico is better. I've learned to try not to judge a mecha show until it's over (totally failing this with Gundam 00), so I'll hold out on GGG, but still, Nadesico was glorious.

This was pretty cool.

Patrick Smith has debuted his 2011 short Masks on the Internet. He called upon frequent collaborator, musician Karl von Kries, to work on the film’s music, but unlike their earlier collaborations, they inverted the workflow. On earlier films like Delivery and Drink, Smith created the animation before von Kries scored the film. With Masks, von Kries composed a score first, and Smith then drew what he heard.

Having known Pat for the past decade, I believe I can say with some degree of confidence that his great love is the plasticity of animated movement. The raison d’être of his films is a passion for creating animation via the currently unfashionable ritual of flipping thousands of crinkly pieces of paper over a lightbox. And yes, Masks was animated on paper, not digitally.

Synopsis: In 2009, Musician Karl von Kries created a seven minute audio score, Animator Patrick Smith drew what he heard. Masked men exploit an edible smaller species as a renegade scientist perfects a cloning process to satisfy demand, but the clones conceal a destructive secret.

That's cool. GaoGaiGar happens to be my favorite show, so I'll bring it up every chance I get. They both kind of have pacing flaws, but Nadesico does have the advantage of being shorter. What episode did you stop at?

Finish GaoGaiGar! =D
Guess what guys. I had my first interview today. Nerve wracking as hell but I made it. =)
Congrats!

Is that why girls go to the bathroom together? I never knew that.
I think girls feel more comfortable in groups, so they do stuff like that from a pretty young age. It's also useful if the stalls are out of toilet paper or you don't have any tampons or the lock is broken or something.

I never really understood it when I was a kid, though.

They should make a slice of life show about what girls *actually* do when they're alone, hehehe.

That's more or less Seitokai Yakuindomo.

I'm on episode 17. Kinda trying to pace myself with these 50 episode shows. Otherwise I get burnt out because 50 episode shows all have pacing issues. I seriously haven't watched a single 50 episode show that NEEDED to go on for 50 episodes. All of them could've stood to be 40.

I don't think I can take much more of this, but it's more accurate than mari mite.

That's a good idea. Yeah, GGG could have been much shorter without missing anything, but I wouldn't really change it. The filler is kind of nice.

Video from Mamoru Hodosa's Wolf Children Q&A session over the weekend at the New York Children's International Film Festival:

Spoilers for the movie, obviously.

"Why did you make the movie so depressing?" (From a 8 year old girl)

"Your perspective on the movie will change as you grow up, when you becoming older you might not find the movie so depressing anymore."

Soooooooooooo good. :D

Perhaps she is definitely in the running for one of the most unsmart protagonists of the year. I cant even. She ought to have stayed in Toma's cage of love. Though this episode was really intense and way interesting looking beyond her faults.
Dont even know why she would choose to stay in the hospital after having been warned by both Ukyo and Toma before about the dangers around here and then in this new world, why would she keep her shoe on on the track instead of taking it off and fleeing from there? Kind of silly thing for her to do I think, and then ignoring Orion and continuing to talk to him initially.
.

I think my rankings would still be Toma > Shin > Orion > Ukyo > Kento > Ikki

Wow, the uh, the pliers are really kinda dumb. I'm betting they don't see a lot of use as the series goes on. Oh well, they can't all be Big Volfogg. Also, I've finally learned the name of Pasdar's female general! Primarda! She dresses rather risque, for a lady covered in wheels. Oh, and apparently Mamoru's purification can make you lose several hundred pounds. BRB, off to get Zonderized.

Pliers are so moe. I own a set of them, but I haven't opened the box yet. They were sitting at forbidden planet for ages, no one wanted them...

Hard to want anything that reeks of one episode wonder.

Gundam 00 17

So, this wasn't that bad of an episode. When she's not whining her ass off about her failed psycho history, Sumiragi continues to be a decent, level-headed character. Her relationship with that gay scientist adds an interesting element to the show. The episode focused mostly on the Gundam Pilots and Pretentious Being team, which was nice, but it of course couldn't keep its pants on for the whole thing and had to switch focuses like, seven times right at the end. Saji is probably hot for Setsuna, and that's why he couldn't kiss Louise. Also, how is some blonde girl named Louise supposed to be Spanish? Louise isn't even a Spanish name, is it? I don't blame Setsuna for pushing the psycho red-head off him, though, since she screams of slut and STDs. And is that Bridge Bunny's shirt painted onto her? You can see her freaking belly-button. The new Gundams look stupid as hell, where the team's Gundams are fine. Lockon continues to be the best guy and if the show was just about him and Sumiragi and Haro it'd move up considerably on the list.

I'm glad Setsuna voiced the smart thought for once: "They said they were Meisters, but what reason do we have to believe that?" Which is true. Sumiragi let them wander her ship unattended without any proof at all that they were even really allies.

Oh, and Dr. Ezelcant died, but he hasn't been in an episode for like, 10 episodes.

Why are dogs so much smarter in anime than real life? I think I would have liked Chataro's interactions with Moko better without the voiceovers for them. They should have just been two dogs on a quest to find Moko's owner.

And why did they have to throw in "That night, Honoka cried until there were no more tears left."? Way to damper a heartwarming episode.

And the hell did you tell that guy anything about where the Prism Stones are? Why would you do that?!

Holy shit that gif lololol.

Yeah. Futari Wa Precure really never did sink that low. Ever. Even at its worst moments.

Martian Successor Nadesico 1-2

Another mecha show from my backlog, Corvo keep hyping it so its make me want to start it now.

First thing I gonna mention, chara design are nothing special but particularly the heroine.

What wrong with your faec

And I just hate the anime hair slip to eyebrow thing.

I am sad now.

Noe collect the Heartcatchers.

Has anyone ever made good quality Precure figures? I do have Cure Peace on order doing her pose, but thats special.

Futari wa Pretty Cure 21

So Kiriya finally fights Nagisa and Honoka. And yes, he does indeed pull a heel-face-turn that could be seen from a mile away through black fog. He just gives them the prism stone and goes back to the Land of Darkness.

Kinda a sad ending for him (sad for Honoka too). But it really couldn't have ended any other way. Eh, seems this arc is almost over anyway. They now have six Prism Stones. Now they only need one more or to lose them to Dotsuku Zone to set up a battle with Jyaku King, which tends to happen a lot when there's a big bad they're showing literally every episode.

How bout dat CG Dark King?

Nice final boxart from Sentai:

Full-size versions here and here (and on Amazon, of course)

SOLD.
Haven't seen the second show but all the NTR comments have me curious.

Is it really laziness rather than efficiency though? Even in the cheaper motionless scenes I've found they tend to at least try to frame the scene in an interesting way. Also it's not like their shows are completely devoid of any fluid motion or well animated scenes. I don't know, I just find it odd that Evangelion gets praise for only needing 700 frames on the first episode but SHAFT well, gets the shaft in that department.

Shaft at least put effort into hiding their deficiencies behind oodles of stylistic choices and weird camera pans. I love them for that. They are like "yeah we are super cheap but look how artistically we zoom into this girls pantyline!"

I seem to remember a few people expressing interest in that mermaid anime Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san, so here's a 90-second PV for the show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6UXuMP6bO4

If you recognize the OP singer, that's Sumire Uesaka (aka Dekomori).

This looks adorable and fun but that music....doesn't seem to fit it.

I refuse to believe Sentai would use something so nice.

They have gotten it right on occasion. Croisee for example.

My college anime club was showing Nadesico, and I was convinced it was the worst kind of harem crap after the first few episodes until I had to cover for someone at a showing, and caught episodes 12-15 as a result. The series then does a near 180 for me, and almost instantly became one of my favorite shows, due to how awesomely ridiculous the plot gets.

Nadesico has a silly start but soon settles into classic status. Maybe thats my nostalgia talking, but several recent posters' love for it seem to back up that assertion.

Guess what guys. I had my first interview today. Nerve wracking as hell but I made it. =)

Congratulations! Our little mascot is growing up ;_;

Wait. What?

<3 I miss you!

Margarine.

You and that wonderful british humour of yours!

Oh god that part made me so sad :( For some reason it hit me like a ton of bricks for a simple line. Wanted to hug Honoka. Poor thing.
