Hyouka 15 (Rewatch)
After the incredible episode 14, it was impossible that the next episode would top it, but this one is still really good. The show (and most importantly, Oreki) start delving into the mystery of Juumoji's thefts, but even if that's the main focus of the episode, the festival is still going strong in the backgrounds, side characters and props scattered throughout every place of the setting.
This time around, I noticed the egregious amount of foreshadowing and clues that are present in here, but presented in a very nonchalant way that makes them easy to forget. Like Oreki checking the website and seeing the online shop, or him taking particular notice of the fact that the Classics club might not be the final target.
Animation DO was again in charge of this episode, with Hiroko Utsumi and Miku Kadowaki returning again to deliver a very pleasant experience. I really like some gags, like these two:
Where they stem from the framing, or
Tougaito's reaction to Oreki being mentioned which is funny due to the expression he makes.
Meanwhile, the personal stories of each of the members continue developing, this time with a nice focus on Chitanda and her failure to be Irisu, lol. The interactions between the main cast and their alloted side-characters were more pronounced this time, with Satoshi being openly dismissive of hair-kun or the atmosphere at the manga club getting more heated. There was also Chitanda's dream-sequence with Tougaito, which was a nice touch that had been missing from the last couple of episodes (same for that Oreki pose thing).
In fact, I'm noticing that Animation DO's episodes tend to be a tiny bit more flamboyant with the animation, making the characters move energetically and a lot of the times in a snappier way than the main studio. I have to say I really like their style, and can't wait to get to episode 21.
I have taken quite a liking to the second OP. The song's nothing special but I like how deliberately obvious the concept of it is. It's also creative in a way a lot of anime OPs are not, and plays with the kinda stuff that the show often depicts in its episodes.
I have one gripe with it though:
This sequence would work much better if it was fully animated with inbetweens. In fact, it would work so much better that it would be the best part of the OP, but it isn't due to the weird decision of leaving it like that.
