Hm, I actually thought there would be some endgame for this show, but due to how this episode ended definitely doesn't seem that they are heading towards any. I'm ok with another wacky hijinks ending though.

Have you watched Penguindrum? Granted, it's toned-down Ikuhara, but it's still a very good show by its own merits.
No, but it's in my backlog. I heard the blu-ray for it is an absolute disaster though. It's also streaming on TAN and has a DVD release though, so maybe those are alright.

I wasn't especially impressed by this one.
It started as an emergency effort to attempt to re-create and save Shinji using the LCL fluids that contain him in 01. This was a bit rushed and not really explained. A lot of jargon was thrown around and it didn't really end up mattering anyway. The second half of the episode was more-or-less another bizarre introspection from Shinji. It was pretty much the same as the last "Weaving a story" and seemed more like budget saving than actual dynamic plot development. As harsh as that sounds, it wasn't offensive or anything, It's just a far cry from the last episode which set a pretty high standard.
Speaking of budget saving, that Kaji and Misato love scene was a bit weak. A static image of a table with moaning? At that point, isn't it even necessary? At least the bits of dialogue were fine, hah.

You have to remember this show aired at prime time, though. GAINAX was already getting plenty of complaints about EVA's depiction of violence, up to the point where they stopped getting money from some of the sponsors.

Watching Penguin Drum was never a matter of "if", it was 'when". Maybe I'll pay $8 for a TAN sub so I can watch that and Princess Tutu with subs. Also, You're Under Arrest is on there and I remember you pimping that show to me.

Solid finale to a surprisingly solid show. There was some good choreography and a real sense of escalation worthy of an arc ending. Good stuff.
Really wasn't expecting much going into the series, but it definitely became one of the stand out shows of the season. Despite a few overly talky episodes and some rough spots elsewhere, this was really fun. I never thought the "summoned to another world" trope would be turned on its head in such an entertaining way. If you're going to make a group of Gary/Mary Stus, this is how you do it.
I would definitely watch another season.

Cuticle Detective is quite a bit more homo. The main character gives us some pretty... interesting expressions when talking about/playing with other male characters' hair.

the teachers all hating the Master, and Chihaya's opponent's monologue. Taichi had some good scenes, too.
Not one of the best episodes of the show, but it was just a well made episode all around, and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

I wasn't expecting an episode like this. Relatively low key and full of amazing/baffling plot elements. Lot's of little interesting bits, but I dont really care to go into detail. Again, refreshing to have one of these late in the game.

Some of the flower imagery is very reminiscent of Utena, by the way. The cut with the show's title could have been taken straight out of Anthy's Rose Garden.
If there's anything I've learned from watching magical girl shows, it is that toying with a maiden's heart is the absolute worst thing you can ever do.

I really want to see how the show will end, but this third arc has been done so poorly. This episode was thankfully not as bad as the previous couple episodes.
