Wipeout HD, PSP tracks in HD, is scheduled for PSN release by the end of the year.

Gamersyde has some awesome footage. I realize that it's just a "HD" version, but as a Wipeout fan and also a fan of minimalist design, this seriously is one of the most attractive games out there. Tied with Crackdown, actually.

They've mentioned that WOHD will have new tracks eventually, it won't just be remakes of old tracks.

Some new info on WipeOut HD from a UK magazine called Play (WOHD was the cover story)...
There will be 8 tracks in the game to start with - 6 from Pure and 2 from Pulse. Downloadable content will follow.
9 music tracks in WOHD are all taken from the Pulse tracklist, all of which are being mixed in 5.1 surround sound.
The devs are very excited about 8 players racing online even going as far to say that "it's almost been the focal point of the game"
Devs emphasized that it's not easy to port tracks, need to re-author all assets so they look good in HD. Doing 60fps @ 1080p is a lot tougher than most PS3 games on the market that are 30fps/720p.
Said they would consider porting classic tracks from the original Wipeout and other older games. I got the impression that it wouldn't be cost effective for them to create new original tracks specifically for WOHD.
Next to nothing was mentioned about the true next gen Wipeout because they are "100% focused on WOHD at this time"
I'm thinking the true next gen Wipeout won't see a release until September '08. I guess that won't be too bad as long as WOHD is taken care of where downloadable content is concerned.
After playtesting the game the writers suggested that £11.99 would be a fair price for the game and £1.99 per 2 downloadable tracks.

There's really no need for new tracks, not with the ridiculously large library of tracks they can lift from already. I'd love to see a remake of p-mar project.

I'd rather have classic tracks treated appropriately (and selected by fans) than have new tracks which are half arsed or not up to WipeOut standards. Track design for these games isn't easy especially when they've explored so much with the portable games.
60 fps @ 1080p is truly a great challenge, I hope they don't compromise on that standard. The art is looking really great huge Orwellian cityscapes ftw.

Would be nice if they could incorporate purchased WipeOut HD tracks into the main package.
So the servers don't all die and it furthers the brand's profile by making the entry point more affordable to people.

I think you'll find it's Sony's. I would have paid the asking price for WipeOut HD with the billed features. They've made some cuts so I don't think it's worth more than what Tekken: DR asks.knee said:No worries. Your loss.

It all depends on how you look at it - some people have thought Warhawk is exensive at $40. However, most people that play Warhawk are over 50 hrs in it. So at $40 it was deal of the century.
Even more will be true of GT5P. Anyone who finds it fun, will put over hundred hours in it, easily, so compared to standard games, it bang for the buck.

Well GT5 has the advantage of being a seamless migration from the prologue to your final garage. WipeOut doesn't have that advantage because it's not that kind of game, the only commodity is your time trials which is irrelevant because the tracks won't migrate.
But Essentially GT5 and GT5 is $100, that's before any downloadable content (which I'm keen on for this game). That's a very high asking price IMO, even though you get a huge time advantage online and you get into the community before cheap people like me.

myself I am not expecting WO:HD to be forty dollars. I may be setting up for disappointment here though.
