I have been thinking of buying a ps3. I own a 360 and I am a HUGE wipeout fan.

thanks

They'd be smart to put up the original game as a PS1 title.
GAF got it done. We posted the word wipeout 2500 times in a thread about PSN and it was added a few updates later. Spamming jet moto hasn't worked yet.

thanks ...u guys rock!! so....the question is now..should I buy the ps3 now..or wait.

Are they really going to discontinue the 60 gig ps3. what do you guys think....buy or not

I got a 60gig awhile ago. I really don't think it matters which one you get. I haven't followed what is up with the 40 gig though.

The software emulation is supposed to be very good. I would rather have an 80 gig than a 60 gig myself. It would let me hold off on putting in my own harddrive for longer.

The only 60 GBs left are those already in the supply chain. In other words, if you want one, get it now.

Jet Moto is up in the JP store. :\

Gamersyde has some awesome footage. I realize that it's just a "HD" version, but as a Wipeout fan and also a fan of minimalist design, this seriously is one of the most attractive games out there. Tied with Crackdown, actually.

Some new info on WipeOut HD from a UK magazine called Play (WOHD was the cover story)...

There will be 8 tracks in the game to start with - 6 from Pure and 2 from Pulse. Downloadable content will follow.

9 music tracks in WOHD are all taken from the Pulse tracklist, all of which are being mixed in 5.1 surround sound.

The devs are very excited about 8 players racing online even going as far to say that "it's almost been the focal point of the game"

Devs emphasized that it's not easy to port tracks, need to re-author all assets so they look good in HD. Doing 60fps @ 1080p is a lot tougher than most PS3 games on the market that are 30fps/720p.

Said they would consider porting classic tracks from the original Wipeout and other older games.
I got the impression that it wouldn't be cost effective for them to create new original tracks specifically for WOHD.

Next to nothing was mentioned about the true next gen Wipeout because they are "100% focused on WOHD at this time"

I'm thinking the true next gen Wipeout won't see a release until September '08. I guess that won't be too bad as long as WOHD is taken care of where downloadable content is concerned.

After playtesting the game the writers suggested that £11.99 would be a fair price for the game and £1.99 per 2 downloadable tracks.

There's really no need for new tracks, not with the ridiculously large library of tracks they can lift from already. I'd love to see a remake of p-mar project.

It's clearly focused as a multiplayer experience- it will probably cost the same as Warhawk.

I'd rather have classic tracks treated appropriately (and selected by fans) than have new tracks which are half arsed or not up to WipeOut standards. Track design for these games isn't easy especially when they've explored so much with the portable games.

60 fps @ 1080p is truly a great challenge, I hope they don't compromise on that standard. The art is looking really great huge Orwellian cityscapes ftw.

Custom soundtracks?

It's on the PSN store, in the US at least.

Doesn't hold up terribly well however.

It's on the UK store too. Personally I think it's held up suprisingly well. The pop-up amuses me greatly. Now that we seem to have left it behind entirely (any next-gen examples?), games with pop-up are of historical significance. The soundtrack is still absolutely killer as well.

Man Wipeout HD is going to rock so hard.

Will it be possible to race against people on other continents?

This looks fantastic and I was a fan of some of the games, however pricing is going to be key here. I'm hoping for <$20. If it's more I won't bite.

Would be nice if they could incorporate purchased WipeOut HD tracks into the main package.
So the servers don't all die and it furthers the brand's profile by making the entry point more affordable to people.

No, it probably won't cost the same as Warhawk. I would not pay $40 for 8 tracks pulled from previous games, 6 of which I have played to DEATH on Wipeout Pure... including the same music bah... that would be ridiculous.

I will pay $20. No more.

God I hope this game comes out before X-mass it looks so damn good!!!but I have a really bad feeling about this one, there hasn't been much shown on the game so far..I would be really supprised if it didn't get delayed until Jan/Feb

Yeah that made no sense. There's no way anyone can honestly expect those 2 games to be given away.
Okay $10 each and I'd bite. I'd rather just be blown away by the real deal: GT5 and WipEout 5.

But you downloaded Mario 64 for 10 bucks amirite? AMIRITE?
I had a PlayStation, not a N64: justified

You aren't going to bite then. You've never bought a remake before?

I'm with him. I'm gonna pick up a 40GB when I get a decent deal on one (Too bad Kmart only had 60 and 80), but 40 dollars (which I've heard bandied about is a joke for GT:P. 5 tracks (with additional d/l content that I'm sure will cost) for 40 dollars? No way. And same thing with Wipeout: HD.

I'd gladly pay 40 dollars for a online-enabled, remade GT 4. That's not what Prologue or Wipeout are, though. (And those are two of the four games I'm purchasing the PS3 for - GT, Wipeout, Hotshots, and LBP... plus Blu-Ray.) So it's not like I'm ambivalent about either series.

Then sit and wait until the full versions of these games, nobody's forcing you into buying them. If you think $40 is too much, go play something else. I think it's a bargain.

No worries. Your loss. :-)
I think you'll find it's Sony's. I would have paid the asking price for WipeOut HD with the billed features. They've made some cuts so I don't think it's worth more than what Tekken: DR asks.

The only remakes I've paid for in recent memory is Pong on the PlayStation, Tomb Raider: Anniversary

i am not big wipeout fan, but i am mild GT5 fan...

It all depends on how you look at it - some people have thought Warhawk is exensive at $40. However, most people that play Warhawk are over 50 hrs in it. So at $40 it was deal of the century.

Even more will be true of GT5P. Anyone who finds it fun, will put over hundred hours in it, easily, so compared to standard games, it bang for the buck.

Well GT5:P has the advantage of being a seamless migration from the prologue to your final garage. WipeOut doesn't have that advantage because it's not that kind of game, the only commodity is your time trials which is irrelevant because the tracks won't migrate.

But Essentially GT5:P and GT5 is $100, that's before any downloadable content (which I'm keen on for this game). That's a very high asking price IMO, even though you get a huge time advantage online and you get into the community before cheap people like me.

it's sad that fun is irrelevant.

myself I am not expecting WO:HD to be forty dollars. I may be setting up for disappointment here though.
