Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I finished witcher 2 on dark mode, was quite the challenge getting through the mists between vergen and henselts army.... That was seriously a real bitch of a fight, and getting one shotted by every enemy is a big time pain in the butt but I loved the combat system so I had to do it.

Do we know if you can change the difficulty within the game? I will probably start on the hardest difficulty and if it's just cheaty cheat game play then I'll put it down a bit, but from what I've found its not so much like that in witcher games if you're good enough.

That yennefer vs triss choice is going to be a serious bitch of a choice but I think I'm going to have to go with yennefer... But I haven't met the game version of yen with new memory's so it will be interesting.

anyone knows of any video that explains the story about the first 2 games including characters an all?

Give this a shot; http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=161953042&postcount=895

Yes, you should be able to change it in the fly.

I'm quite sure we can. That's why I'm starting on Hard - I got the feeling the the game will be a bit easy on Normal, especially since you can use potions in combat.

I love this shot as well:

That detail.

That seems impossible.

Also do we know if the choice options at the start of the game instead of loading one of our old saves include every choice we made in that game or is it just the main ones?

Ie; if someone uses a save file is there possibility to see anything that someone who didn't use a save?

I feel like they are blowing their load way too early. Still got 3 weeks till release and every day there has been some new trailer, article, or video. How can they sustain the pace? I know reviews are like a week early so that leaves 2 weeks.

Uh.. sure? Dismiss any complaints you want.

But it's not a good look when you debate certain complaints over the course of several pages with multiple people, then attempt to marginalize said complaints in a sarcastic post and then resort to calling them stupid complaints so you can dismiss them outright.

Allow me to hold an opinion, which is that such behavior is fucking stupid and not conductive to a discussion board.

Fine. Apparently it's ok for you to express your opinion in an antagonistic way over and over again, basically shoving it down our throats (the way you state it as if it were a fact), but expressing opposite viewpoints and counter arguments is not ok. And god forbid if you make a once-in-thread sarcastic jab.

I was far from the first person to make a sarcastic comment like that. Lots of us find many of these nitpicks to be pretty silly.

But, you know what, I won't answer these complaints with arguments or evidence any longer. It seems you find it offensive. You guys can have at it. Keep repeating the same nitpicks over and over, I won't respond.

Console footage has yet to be revealed and I'm sure that'll garner plenty of discussion/interest.

I'm gonna have to ask for some receipts. When have I shoved my opinion down anyone's throat?

Listen, I'm glad you find some of these complaints silly. Great. But what's the point of engaging in discussion with some people, then dismissing them later as stupid complaints because you didn't give enough of a shit in the first place? If you found them silly, don't bother engaging on such a level as to indicate you are willing to entertain discourse.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. But I guess this PR campaign is squarely aimed at console exclusive gamers who have had no prior introduction to the franchise. I don't envy CDPR's PR team, it's a huge task to undertake as this is the third game in the series.

Nah, the game has the potential to be huge. They need to ramp it up and push the hell out of it.

Were potions even that useful in the 2nd game? I completed the game 3 times and never messed around with them.

Mainly in chapter 2 when there were some difficulty spikes but largely, I ignored them too.

I think the fact that you had to mediate to use them made them largely irrelevant most of the time unless you were stuck in an area. My first playthrough, they went largely unused because I did not know what enemies would be coming up, thus was unable to plan. Well, except for the oils you could apply anytime. Those were pretty useful.

I wouldn't worry about it, this all feels very deliberately paced. Its also pretty smart since they havent done too much themelves. One week IGN pumped out new stuff everyday. Last week it was Gamespot. Youtubers are carrying to torch this week. I'm sure they have something planned for next week. And then the following week we'll start to see actual reviews.

I'm getting a heavy Red Dead Redemption vibe from some of these videos. Mainly when Geralt is on horseback or running around by himself in the world away from any town. Amazing stuff.

They're very different obviously, but there's something exciting about exploring unknown wilderness in true isolation. No recent game has been able to communicate that feeling like Red Dead for me, though it seems like W3 will change that.

Also, despite there being a ton of videos, it's relatively from the same section/slice of the game. I've watched a few videos but I don't feel spoiled on anything but a few side quests and the general mechanics of the game.

Yeah, I've only watched a few of the videos myself but it does seem like 90% of it is from the prologue area. There are bits and pieces of other things but surprisingly no real spoilers.

i can picture them stealing / homage the bit where you hear a licensed song on horseback a la the Mexico scene in RDR

Oh man. Not gonna get my hopes up too much 'cause I'm sure I'll have to infiltrate a mutant spider empire or some shit, but hopefully they aren't too rampant.

Yeah totally. Or even just using their original score creatively will go a long way to creating some great moments. That was something Red Dead did well. You'd get little stabs or pieces of music at certain times when exploring that really helped heighten the mood, but you also would get complete silence in isolation when needed.

This seems like its gonna be the first open world game with fully-detailed interiors that are all loaded at once with the outside world. Crazy when you think about it.

Anyone seen any spiders yet?

So far from the videos, none.
Also, I don't remember there are any regular spiders in previous Witcher games. There's a spider queen-like spider, but it's more a mutated, giant one. Monsters in Witcher 3 will likely be the same as in previous games, with some addition as well.
And as mentioned above, there are also Endregas. They don't really look like a spider though, more like a spider & scorpion mutation.

I doubt it. We have seen very basic quests and almost none of the major characters.

The game is huge and they're mostly showing early gameplay. In any case I get their reasoning. This is the game that can sell millions and make them a household name for casual console gamers. They want and need to market it extensively to make sure it happens. And although I've had enough and can't get more excited than I already am I wish them all the best since this game will fund Cyberpunk 2077.

Can't wait for The Witcher 3, have it preordered digitally on Xbox One. I will be going through The Witcher 2 on PC prior to The Witcher 3's release... considering I forgot the choices I made in my Xbox 360 playthrough.

Got bored, decided to whip up a "the basics" recap infograph of the setting, factions, and Geralt's journey for those who are entering Wild Hunt as their first Witcher game.

Hope nobody minds me posting here.
Thanks for this.
I'm actually doing a playthrough of Witcher 2 right now so I'll look over it after I finish. Not sure if I'll ever get around to the first.

There are some really great recap videos on YouTube too if anyone is feeling out of their depth:

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiqMr0OvQog
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSftIRQzYCM

Thanks to you, too.

Man, its great to see a GAF thread with lots of love for Gopher.

I've been a subscriber of his YouTube channel for two years. By far my favorite YouTuber. He basically introduced me to Skyrim modding. He has a natural bent toward educating the viewer without being condescending.

If you are interested in fun Gopher videos, check out his Skyrim Mod Sanctuary stuff. I enjoy those even when he talks about mods that I have no interest in.

(And his Let's Plays of horror games are great, too.)

I am not really sure why, but I didn't use oils either; just signs and both my swords. I should really try and use everything at my disposal this time around to spice things up a bit.

I have to ask. Do we really need a fear bar for the horse? Do we even need a stamina bar for that matter? This game is starting to feel like that Bloodborne picture with the shopped HUD.

There is no harm in good amount of HUD elements if you give toggles for them. There is people who will find those elements helpful/important.

Edit: Considering how much it's talked that you can toggle and scale HUD elements like you want it's interesting how some are still concerned about HUD clutter.

That's good then if there are extensive HUD options.

Yea, the concern should more be if the features those HUD elements represent are adequately represented in the game.

Or rather, I hope so anyways. I want to run a minimal HUD but don't want to miss out on gameplay functionality.

Is it also able to resize things like map and quest notifications?
