Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I haven't been keeping up with the whole map stuff too much, but isn't Novigrad a city? And I recall watching a video where the developers rode on a horse right into Novigrad without any loading screens. Has that changed?

It hasn't changed, there are no loading screens at all except when you fast travel.

No, it hasn't. You've got the big area that includes Novigrad as a single, seamless area. Then there's the Skellige Isles area, which is another big map. There's other smaller areas, including the tutorial zone, and a couple of others.

Novigrad + No Man's Land is one area.

Skellige Islands is another.

White Orchard is another and also prologue.

Kaer Morhen is its own area.

There is also emperors palace that we get to visit and its own area.

Gotchya, thanks! I was just kind of confused because of how Skitso listed the areas, threw me off. Glad to hear what I thought isn't the case! :D

Perfect for a OT banner. :D

Yeah, you are right. It's amazing how delusional some people are. So many here seems to have completely unrealistic expectations about the Witcher's map size. It's large, sure, but no where close to being so absurdly huge that Novigrad would be the size of Lost Santos or similar. There's gonna be a lot of disappointed gamers when the game is released. Not because the map is small, mind, but because of the completely overblown expectations.

I'd be surprised if there is a lot of disappointment. People are likely going to react based on the feeling they get from playing the game, meaning that actual size is irrelevant. The estimates I've seen suggest that it takes ~9minutes to run from the very top of Novigrad to the bottom of NML at full gallop, which means its likely even longer since the horse will actually run out of stamina. By comparison, it takes ~6minutes to drive from the N to S end of GTAV. And thats just compared to one map. Skellige is nearly as large as Novigrad+NML. Then you toss in the small maps like White Orchard, Kaer Morhen, and the other 4-5 special zones they arent talking about.

So regardless of the actual size, it'll be easy for people to feel like its a much larger game.

Every day that passes I could swear the passage of time slows down.

As we get closer launch day games gravitational pull of hype grows X potentially and causes even time itself to warp and move noticeably slower. One day within that field is a week for outsiders.

Ok, I officially dont have any room for this.
Witcher 2's box was a lot smaller and I have it put nicely on my shelf. The figure seems to be the majority of the bulk.

So what you really are saying is that you have too small shelf, but size of TW3's CE is just right :b

Thank god I'm starting work tomorrow, time should fly

Of course it turns into a negative when the game actually comes out lol, I just want to stay home and play and play but I've got all these obligations!

Yeah, nobody is going to be disappointed with the size of the world here. The game is massive.

The world is split into three open world parts you need to fast travel between. (Skellige Islands, Novigrad/no mans land and White Orchard) This is a known fact.

You must have misunderstood something, as Vizima for example is not part of the open world map, but a separate location you can only access via quick travel. Here's the official map of the game for reference: (Novigrad/No mans land is the large map, Skellige islands is the second large open world location you need to fast travel to get there. White Orchard is the lower right small map that is also a separate location you need to fast travel to get to)

No it's not. Unless they changed it since played which I highly doubt. I was there talking to the devs while I played. You can actually swim to the skellige islands if u like. That is if you survive and which it will take u forever. Why would u think it's seperate? How can I be mistaken when I played the game vs you who has not? After the prologue, the whole map is open including vizma which you can ride from white orchad and ride to novigrad. Btw vizma is huge.. Maybe half of novigrad.

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that you can sail from Novigrad/No Man's Land to The Skellige Isles.

Novigrad+NML and Skellige are definitely separated, the developers, press, and youtubers have all confirmed that. Now it may be possible to swim some distance toward Skellige and you hit a loading screen that teleports you the rest of the way, but its definitely not one giant and seamless thing.

Vizima is in the game as well? Hope so, as I was under the impression Novigrad was the only city in the game. If that were the case I'd be hoping it would be bigger than what what that map comparison suggests.

Wait, so its Vizima as a city that appears more than the prologue confirmed then? Not only somewhere where some custcenes occur (like Emhyr in Foltest's throne) but a real city you can visit and has sidequests?
Holy shit if ture.

Vizma Castle, not the entire city.

He said its half of Novigrad, so Im pretty sure he means the castle and surrounding town of New Vizima. If he is not mistaken, that is.

I dont know. The developers have said that its only the palace. The map even says so..

Hmm not sure about that.. Unless I was totally mislead.. The devs were pretty clear to me because when I started the game and saw the map, I said "holy shit is the entire map open right front the start or will it be unlocked by sections?" the dev clearly told me after the prologue, everything is opened. I then asked, "so I can ride up to kaer morhen?" which he said yes! And he clearly said you can swim to those islands, pointing to the skrellige islands. Though u would rather take a boat.

Vizima is huge. This is where you confirm your choices from the witcher 2 and how it played out.

Well, they were right.. after the prologue, you can go anywhere you want.. but if you want to go skellige islands, then you must go there by a loading screen..skellige islands is a separate map .. the other one big map is Novigrad + No Man's Land..

Either way, the game is still going to offer a massive world. Makes no difference to me.

I wonder why you are first one ever to say that Vizima as a whole is back in TW3 o_O Seems like quite a big thing to forget when they even have told us about Oxenfurt, that we haven't even seen yet.

What we've been told is that you only have access to the Royal Palace of Vizima, which is where the Nilfgaardian Emperor is residing.

Anywho, arguing about map size is ridiculous to me because a larger map doesn't make a better game. It's about quality, not quantity. But never fear, it will be a "Big Fucking Map", regardless of how it compares to other games.

What? They've literally said, in multiple occasions, that it would make no sense to let player take a boat to Skellige, as it would take hours and hours. Also, in terms of actual world map, it would make absolutely no sense to have a huge chuck of land next to you, unreachanble. Also, they've said many times that Kaer Morhen can't be walked into, but needs a loading screen. There must be a traslation error happening, or you're straight up lying.

That is where I am at. We know it is going to be quite huge, lol. That much is established. Now I just want to play it.

They tried implementing it but said sailing from Novigrad to Skellige would take too long or they would have to put the two locations unrealistically close to each other. So they chose for fast travel.

And I sincerely doubt you could travel from Novigrad to Kaer Morhen by horse...the distance between Novigrad and Kaer Morhen is really long.

Gamestar showed Oxenfurt in their coverage if i remember right.

Hmm yeah unless the dev meant I can go up there which Will be unlocked but just didn't mention a loading screen. Either way we shall see.

It's stated numerous times by developers and youtubers etc. that each larger open world location is separate and behind a loading screen. As I said before, even if you have had hands on time, you must have misunderstood something. The game word just is not going to be one gigantic map.
