Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

You're 100% correct about this, BUT the promotional shots from just a few months ago promised something different.

I'm ok with it, but I was hoping for the rich detail early promotional shots showed. Probably wishful thinking though :p

Not that I disagree with you, but what promotional shots? It doesn't look as great as that initial trailer reveal, but it still looks fantastic. I'd imagine too that if CDPR doesn't have it updated by the time they release their "Enhanced Edition", some enterprising modder will. Though, I don't know where that leaves the console version. I'm really surprised to see so many people complaining about the LOD, I guess me being a fan of the series I never really noticed it as whenever I see a preview I look at it from what I expect the total package to be, and in this case it looks amazing.

You'd need a pair of glasses if you couldn't make out an LOD that bad without it "being all blown up"

btw, I didn't blow up/magnify those images, I simply cropped them

Ignorance is bliss in cases like this, i guess.

No, I was just too busy looking at the full scenes and don't single out and split hairs over every flaw I find. For a game this big that also has so much going on, it looks amazing on the whole. Sorry if some blurred rocks are a deal breaker for you.

Moar incoming!!

I think the question that needs to be asked is: What open-world game has handled LOD the best? I think we can agree that no open world game so far has perfectly tamed the LOD problem.

New trailer did nothing for me. I guess they blew their load with Sword of Destiny. That trailer was so well cut, with the music and all the scenes looked good.

At this point I'm just waiting for the game, gimme that sweet GoG preload!

Very modded Skyrim comes into mind, but Vanilla has some cool LOD issues.

I am so ready for the 19th and I am so hyped,

But I liked to reveal graphics approach more. The more realistic one. And I do think there was a downgrade.

The Game will be awesome anyway :)

You mean that super-desaturated looking one? Ewww no way, I much prefer colors and lighting in games. But I can appreciate why you like that. I felt that way when Gears of War launched, then was bored by the brown/desaturated look that seemed to be in most games after that.

I just don't set my standards as low as some people.

I don't understand the complaint. You could have a linear game with much less LOD issues if you want, but then you'd have a different game. Making games is all about concessions, what can you sacrifice to increase performance while still maintaining visual excellence.

Hypothetically, would you rather have a linear RPG with no LOD issues or an open-world RPG with nitpick worthy issues? I know what I'd pick.

Or even better, what open-world game do you think does LOD better/right?

lol fuck off.

Edit: I keep saying this but I think I'm just gonna lurk on GAF till the reviews start to hit. This is all too much.

Cyber I'm sure your a nice guy and didn't mean it the way it came off to me, not gonna edit it like I didn't say it though.

Blows my mind when I see this. Overly desaturated, bloomed and sharpened art direction is NOT realistic. It's ok if you prefer the old look, but please stop saying that was even remotely realistic. The game has a more natural look to it now than it ever has.

That's a bad example though, because Vanilla was horrid. Some stuff popped in right ahead of you. I always had to change my ugrids to deal with it, and messing with ugrids was shifty stuff and could really fuck that game up.

I think the best example right now is GTA V. You can increase LOD pretty far in that game, but it can crush FPS once you do.

I really can't get on with the downgrade shit. The original witcher was not a pretty game, but we still loved it. Witcher 2 had great textures, but the draw distance was pitiful. Honestly, once the game finally comes out it will be the story, characters, and gameplay that are really gonna make it for me.

I don't know, but have you been to a forest lately ? The colors are very punchy now and a little bot to bright and not "realistic" as you see it. Like I said the game still looks awesome and I can't wait to play it.

Yes I have, and I've also looked outside a window. There are vivid colours in real life man.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can you disable the sun in this game? Too much colour.

No but I get your point. Previous footage looked more grim, in line with the first Witcher.

Go into thick forest and sunlight will get choked out, grimness on instant. Can be seen in PS Poland PS4 video, dat forest is properly dark place.

Also I bet we will get to see grim and creepy places.

For fuck's sake can we please stop with this shit.

Or what about if some people just don't notice that stuff as easily as you seem to?

Haha, didn't think that'd get much of a reaction XD
I didn't mean that everyone has low standards compared to me. Just that on the scale of grass/LOD standards i'm probably a bit more picky than others :P

I think the question that needs to be asked is: What open-world game has handled LOD the best? I think we can agree that no open world game so far has perfectly tamed the LOD problem.

Grand Theft Auto 5 so far, I think. I hardly notice poor LOD in that game. It uses just enough fog to keep the really distant stuff from looking terrible. And the grass draw distance and quality is the best I've seen.

Grass and LOD:

The game has a more natural look to it now than it ever has.

I want to comment on that so bad. But I won't!

I wonder if the medallion gets its own physics... I figure that thing hitting him in the face every battle must make him tougher or something.

The onslaught of media isn't going to stop anytime soon

Who can be the blond woman? She seems to know Geralt, but I don't know who could be.

My guess? A person that knows him by reputation. As Geralt has one as being one of the last/best Witchers around.

Where do you think all dem' scars came from? :P

It might be the same person as from the russian gameplay video but the haircut seems different. It's a relatively minor character from the books if that's the case.
Keira Metz.

It's probably just a quest character you're returning to with the "finally!" and Geralt having an option to say "You're using me." Probably no one major.

Will the Witcher 3 have in game CGI cutscenes? I know there are cgi trailers and promos but not sure if they are in game. I really like them.

In past CDPR has done cutscenes in-engine / in-game, none of the CGI stuff. Geralt getting his memory back segments, stuff about his past, were basically hand drawn animations in TW2. Opening cinematic is most likely CGI.

She's already confirmed to be that sorceress Geralt seems to be doing a quest with in some of the footage.

Looks like we're getting even more book characters than previously mentioned appearing in Witcher 3.

Doubtful, but The Witcher 1 and 2(enhanced edition) both had CGI openings that were awesome. But after the opening cgi it's either all in-game cutscenes or some of the hand-drawn(comic-like) ones from W2 probably.

Oh man, that would be great, like backstories told in CGI, my son..."insert creature" dead, let me get my revenge...

Don't know anything about witcher games, don't hate on me, if it's to ridiculous for this game/story. Don't know how the usual side quests are.

What I know is that I wait for reviews, and than buy a PS4 for this game. Just to wander around in the woods with the big old trees. Looks wonderful.
