Witcher 3: Official Gameplay Trailer

Not a fan that the map shows "Undiscovered Locations". Usually when open world games show you where undiscovered locations are on the map, it becomes a thing of just setting nav points to places and heading there. The only sense of discovery usually comes from things you find along the way, which is cool, but I'd rather it just let you discover everything on your own.

It's hard to say cause none of us have played the game yet, but if it's anything like The Witcher 2 (if TW2 was you first Witcher game) you'll be confused as hell at the start and that might completely put you off the game; not to mention TW2 has one of the worst prologues to any game. This is something CDProjekt has to get right for the huge influx of new players. Also you can always just go on Youtube or Wikipedia and get a rough idea of whats going on.

I guess you have to take their word for it but they've said that you can play this without playing the others.

I'd actually really like some sort of story recap feature in the game, you could read a synopsis of the previous games from your journal or something.

Devs have said that at beginning of W3 will be "Prologue" kinda moment during which events of W1 & W2 will be recapped and it also will ask for player decisions at key moments so you can alter worldstate for W3.

They have said you can toggle most of that stuff off if you want to. World then communicates with you through e.g. audio cues so you still find quests etc.

Never played The Witcher game, but wow this looks huge.

And they definitely took a page from Rockstar for this trailer. :)

I think The Witcher 3 will be a huge success commercially; The Witcher 3 seems to have reached an audience that is larger than ever.

Ok cool, they hinted they were going to do something similar to Dragon Age: Inquisition, I just hadnt read what they were doing.

Also that armor customization, gonna be Fashion Souls all over again. Cant wait.
Really? That makes me incredibly happy.
Me too, playing Skyrim with that ridiculous compass and HUD in your face 24/7 and playing with everything turned off is like night and day.

Is the Witcher franchise choice - consequence heavy? With my little time with Witcher 2, I noticed I was making some decisions. But I never played it far enough to see how much of a consequence they had.

And if it does, how are they going to handle the story in Witcher 3 for those without a save file to carry over from?

Is there a universally accepted 'canon story' that mirrors the book that is defaulted to?

There's a choice at the end of act 1 which will determine whose side you'll be on act 2.
There are two completely different zones/cities in act two depending on your choice, with completely different main quest and side/hunt quests. You can also witness some important facts about the NPCs on each path. You can only see them all if you play through the game at least twice. Lastly, there are multiple endings on TW2 as well.

I don't see it that way at all. If anything, it has more in common with the Souls-type games. Combat in the Witcher 2 is all about dodging, controlling distances, parrying, managing vigor levels, timing attacks, and knowing when to use signs. On the harder difficulty levels it's actually quite tactical. You have to think and strategize or you're dead.

I'm not a big fan of the Batman/Shadow of Mordor-type systems. They're ok for me, but I feel those systems are too automated and easy. It almost feels like the game is playing itself sometimes.

I don't get the idea how do people compare TW2 combat with the snooze-fest Batman/Mordor combat.
Can you dodge/roll to the side/behind of your enemy so you can attack them instead of their shields in Batman/Mordor games?
Can you prepare the upcoming battle with suitable potions/weapon oil that match the enemies weakness(es) in those games? Or use traps?
Can you parry swords or deflect arrows? Can you pass through enemies' defense by using heavy attack instead of normal attack?
And most importantly, you can't beat everyone by just pushing one button in Witcher games.

I'm seriously asking, because I don't play those kind of games.

Is a GTX 980M and i7-4710HQ likely to be powerful enough to play TW3 on Ultra with decent FPS, or should I expect to play it on High/Very High?

This. It's actually a big mark against the game for me. I'd rather be traversing across the map just chilling and then run into a dragon nest, cannibal settlement, or a sea monster randomly than have it all pointed out to me. Making the Undiscovered Locations thing optional doesn't fix it either, I'd rather it not exist so I'm never tempted to use it.

Should i reinstall Witcher 2 on PC and try to finish it before this comes out? i really hate playing TPV games with mouse and keyboard though..

I would say yes, however I doubt your FPS would average anything above 30fps.

Purely speculative on my part, so don't quote me.

Instead of watching a story thing I'm just getting through Witcher 1 on easy difficulty to offset me not liking combat. Enjoy the world and story so far, although the lack of variation in NPC designs is pretty bad. I understand low budget but outside of main story characters there's the same models reused for everyone in the game.

Well that is what happens when you have small and tight budget, like you said. Creating unique content [e.g. NPCs models] costs as it takes time and men so you just do what you have to and reuse for most "non essential NPC" same RandomCivilianModel01.

Just try look past that stuff and enjoy the world and story, it's where Witcher 1 shines.

I love the landscapes in this game.

The dynamic day/night cycle also looks amazing and is going to add so much to the game.

Oh yeah I totally understand it. It's a minor gripe. I'm definitely enjoying it since I don't really have to worry much about combat on the easy difficulty.

I do agree with you. I'm really happy the option exists as opposed to no option, but I'd rather the game have been designed without expecting the player to be able to do that.

And like you said, just knowing the option exists might become annoying whenever you're lost or something.

Really? Because this would instantly put it with Morrowind for me. Just give me a general idea and I'll put in the time to get there, especially now with Suspend/Resume :D

And at other side of this coin is players who would get annoyed if game was all about using e.g. audio cues with no option to get additional tips on the map. For player like you? who wants minimal aids from game and just explore having that option there can be annoying temptation at times, but I still think this is case where more options is better.

Caters to both sides of the coin, so to say.

At least I have read from few different places that game allows you to toggle that stuff on and off as you like and how game still has clear audio cues, e.g. "Help!", to indicate quests etc.

Well regardless of the Undiscovered "?" marks on the map, I was relieved the map wasn't cluttered with icons a la Ubisoft's open world games. Thank god for that. Hopefully that's indicative of CD Projekt taking care to put more meaningful content into this open world, rather than fill it with collectathons and filler content.

You can hide them as well.

Sweet, more options is better I say as well. I understand we may have to disable stuff to get it this way but it's a welcome compromise because I know they need to get the people that ate vanilla Skyrim/Fallout up.

Right, I'm just saying regardless of my opinion of those in either case, I appreciate that the map in general even with all the icons available on it didn't resemble say an AC game's map.

Yeah, that's my concern as well.
Most people will play the game in default settings so those marks/icons will likely get some hate, I predict.

If we were to believe that level designer Q&A from some time ago everything in world is handcrafted and unique with actual meaning to exist in the world. Not to have stuff in just to have stuff in.

At least that is what I took from few of his answers and I hope its that way :b

Options menus, who needs them or look into them? Default everything is best.

I remember him saying something like that as well awhile back.

I always do lol, I may be a mostly console gamer (Only have an entry level Toshiba laptop) but can't stand HUD clutter. I'm glad to hear they aren't just building the game for the breadcrumb followers but for those of us that really want to explore as well.

No need, Witcher 3 will also have glorius exploration music like this.

Just listening to that track and looking at that gif makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

That is a nice song! However, Wandering Flame is my favorite, and it has some sentimental value with me. I know I'm never gonna use that fast travel option. I want to ride/walk/swim to every corner of that world, leveling up. I'm gonna spends days just exploring and leveling up, before I even attempt my first mission. That's why background music is of importance, as I begin my quest. :) I can tell, I'm gonna be as addicted to The Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt, as I am with Game of Thrones.

Never played FFX or any other FF, dislike JRPGs, but damn if that isn't one beautiful song. Not really fitting the Witcher, but beautiful nonetheless. Kinda makes me want to play the FFX.

Thanx. It's an amazing song! Anytime I'm stressed out, I put that song on to relax, and take my mind off anything that troubles me. It has such an haunting melody. https://youtu.be/p5lyc2gLri4?list=FLGxSHry7rqzcnOqGBB7cR5w

Hey guys, so I recently bought two 980 GTX cards and they both came with an Nvidia promo copy of this game (GOG version of game). I actually had it pre ordered ages ago so I am willing to sell the two copies at a cheap price. I know we have a sell/buy thread on Gaf but that thread moves so fast and maybe not everyone sees that thread. The promo codes expire end of may which is not too far away. Anyway, if you're interested you can pm me!

Mods if I'm breaking any rules, please let me know and I'll edit this post.

Question: By chance does anyone know how (where) I can purchase the season pass for The Witcher III The Wild Hunt, for the PS4? I don't see it on PSN.

Same here, just like with RDR I'm going to transverse every where on foot. Only use a horse when needed. I got to the point where I didn't even need be told where those treasure places were located lol, I remembered the general area.
