Sandbox in a single player game? hard pass

Their gameplay, especially combat always leaves a lot to be desired, doubt thatll change and since theyre moving to ue5 i dont expect modders to come to the rescue by reworking the gameplay this time.

wart open world with no sandbox?? ahahaa

I'm much more interested in a cyberpunk sequel than witcher 4 because i couldn't get into witcher 3 at all. I tried to give it a chance but the combat was clunky and not fun in the least and i'm starting to realize that open world games have become repetitive too me personally. There's too many things to do, too many markers and checklists of things u should do, and they're just too damn big anymore. I prefer a condensed world that isn't massive to the point of frustration and i prefer a game that doesn't have 9000000000 side quests or activities to do. Cyberpunks world felt big but not overwhelming and i enjoyed it because of that. I'm sure the witcher 4 will be a masterpiece but i have to be in the mood for a massive open world game and right now i'm just not.

I agree. As Huber would say from Easy Allies: "I need to feel the kill"

I wonder if they will use what they've learned from Cyberpunk on the combat of this game.

Cyberpunk combat was awesome. I had a blade build and it was an absolute blast flying around at super speed and just dicing people up. The sense of movement and freedom is what made cyberpunks combat a breath of fresh air plus the finishers looked incredible at that speed.

witcher 3 zero combat or sandbox Im sorry its all true

think itl be better?
Hope it'll be better for the sandbox at least. This one of the major reasons why I could constantly replay Fallout and Elder Scroll games because of the more fun open world with random unscripted encounters but can't find myself replaying Witcher 3 more than twice in my life.

Pardon me but what is a sandbox in this context?

Been playing Witcher 3 again from scratch.

That jump is so comical lol
The dodges are fun to do but at higher difficulty you dodge 6 times to create space and swing only 2 times. Entire combat overhaul needs to be done.

I always love GigaBowser posts. You type with such character.
Unfortunately I think the switch to UE5 could mean there'll be even fewer sandbox mechanics than The Witcher 3. Maybe they'll customize the engine!

Must it? If think the sales/reviews/awards of 3 makes me think more of the same is a safe bet.

Sandbox? No thanks, if I want to fool around there are thousands of games for that. I prefer a more "limited" but polished experience.

They already made a better combat on cyberpunk so i expect them to improve even more.

But please, please, give your game a fucking challenge for a change, both w3 and cb are painfully easy after a while.

After Cyberpunk, my prediction is:

Watch them repeat every single design mistake they made with The Witcher 3 (stiff controls, weak combat system, bad and bloated itemization, even more bloated progression curve with a lot of unnecessary extra stats, immersion-breaking "leveled" enemies, etc) and then some.

I did have to get used to the combat for quite a while until i enjoyed the game, it could definitely be improved, once i did, the game was great.

The problem with the combat isn't that there isn't depth.

It's that the meta is fast attack spam and you can get thru the whole game spamming it basically, with a roll or spell mixed in. The meta is super shallow. Increase the base difficulty of the game so it can't be spammed thru and people have to use your witcher potions and stuff to win, and it will be a lot better.

As someone who got thru the whole game just spamming fast attack, to me the combat was beyond shallow, it was the worst combat in any game this big I've ever played. It was worse than Witcher 2 because Witcher 2 at least started kind hard.

I don't think CDPR really understand player behavior in videogames. I think they do understand what makes combat interesting, but they don't really understand that leaving a meta of a single button tap in the game prevents people from ever exploring more complex options. As an example, combat in Hogwarts was actually less complex than Witcher 3 but way, way more fun and varied, allowing it to be enjoyable for much longer. If only combat was as much fun as Gwent. It was such a great game in so many ways, but basic combat on normal difficulty mode with no mods was not one of them.

...and on another note I'm a huge sandbox fan, always was, so I wouldn't be mad if there were a few more mini-golf style setpieces for me to climb on and solve.

Devs did say they will focus on better combat.. in one of the interviews they compared how they leveled up by working on cdpr as that was their deepest combat system and helped them learn, which they will apply to tw4.

Ofcourse it's not a shooter and a tps action adventure, but I'm expecting better gameplay combat system here.

It's the one reason why I can't get into the 3rd game. Combat is really bad compared to almost everything else in its peer group.

Then they cocked up the launch of CP77 so badly too, so I dunno if they'll do it right first time with TW4.
