Not planning on updating but I accept donations.

Nah but seriously, I have a 5800x and don't feel like I'm missing anything.

You need to get a 5800X3D. It's close to 25-30% faster than a normal 5800X.
And you better hurry, because AMD has stopped making Zen3 3D chips.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Mmmh, wasn't thinking about it but 25-30 seems like a lot indeed.

Do you think it would it be a nice companion for a 4070 Super until I replace the whole rig in a few years from now?

Probably upgrading from a 5800X3D if the launch price is about the same as the 7800X3D (~$449), not because I really need to but I want a new PC so I have somewhere to put my 3080 if I upgrade next year.

Already got a 6000CL30 RAM kit ready, will wait for a good deal on a B650E/X870 motherboard deal though so in around a month with BF deals I guess.

I’m going to ride my 5800x3d for years. I like to do new builds but I find it less and less appealing to deal with the issues of doing that.

The 5800X3D can keep pace with a 9700X. So it's very good.
The advantage is that it only requires to change the CPU. You can keep the memory and motherboard.
Yes, it will be a great companion for a 4070Super.

You can also consider a 5700X3D. This is 5-10% slower than the 5800X3D. But it costs under 200$.
The 5800X3D usually costs around 300$.

I’m waiting for 9950X3D. If that seems like a worthy upgrade I’ll get that but if not then I’ll wait for the Zen 6 equivalent.

Thanks man! I'll consider it.

I'm still on a 10700K... planning to wait and see how both arrow lake and zen 5 x3d shape up before deciding on my upgrade path.

I’m waiting for my 13700f to explode.
I will pair it with the RTX 5090 and try and make it explode.
Then I’ll get me a fancy scmancy new AMD motherboard system.

I have a 7800x3D so don’t need to upgrade for gaming per se, but I kind of want more cores for messing around with AI.

So I might get a 9950x3D depending on its gaming performance and maybe even a 5090 (depending on pricing).

And then I can relegate my current system as kids gaming PC / secondary gaming PC for when the main system is running workloads.

Am I misremembering or does Zen 5 have no real IPC or clock speed gains over Zen 4? My 7950x3D is doing just fine but I would have upgraded to a 9950x3D if it had a decent boost to both.

would like to see the performance if there is any real performance that I can benefit from at 4k. or at least heavy cpu demanding games.

if its just 10% performance or 15% performance at full hd and nothing when cpu constrain / or 4k then I am out. I dont need to spend money on something useless for my needs.

9950x3D is rumored to have 3D cache on both chipsets. So it’s going to be interesting to see new results especially with improvements on Windows side of things.

That would make it an instant NOT buy for me. The whole reason I love the 7950x3D is the asymmetric core config. 3D cache cores for games that benefit from it, high frequency cores for the rest and non gaming tasks. It gives it the single core performance of the base 7950x which is noticeably higher than the 7800x3D, and sacrifices really nothing. It would be such a waste to have two 3D cache CCDs.

How true is this. I have an 5800x and I'm stuck on that chip set so can't upgrade and don't plan on getting a new motherboard any time soon .

Ive looked at alot of gaming benchmarks and don't see much of an improvement, especially at 1440p.

let's see some benchmarks first... so far my 7800x3d and rtx 4090 seem perfectly fine for literally everything I need...
If there's a huge vr performance uplift i might go for another upgrade

On a 13600k doing fine, if AMD keep it up I'll definitely be Ryzen for my next upgrade. Pisses me off that intel is a dispoable platform (One gen and a refresh)

My CPU is long overdue for an upgrade, and will be looking at 9950x3D for video editing, local streaming, etc. But it shouldn't be 20-30% below 9800x3D in gaming. Let's see.

Its not true, we'll wont magically see 25%-30% gains. Im on ultrawide QHD and see no reason to upgrade to a 3D.

I'm considering upgrading, I just need to do some research, as I have a question to find an answer for that I've to find a definitive answer to.

I play at 4k 120hz at absolutely maximum settings using a 4090 and a older cpu 9700k and I've yet to notice any games give me a cpu bottleneck.

I need to find some proof that a latest and greatest cpu like a 9800X3d will give me a bigger fps increase compared to my cpu for example 9700k + 4090 = 90fps but a 9800X3d + 4090 = 120fps.

I suppose a cpu benchmark comparison that shows games not hitting at least 120fps with cpus that are even newer than my older cpu whereas either the 9800X3d or even the 7800X3D hitting 120fps should prove that it's time to upgrade.
