Without spoiling anything, does Fringe (the TV show) has a disappointing finale like Lost?

John Noble is great in this show. Really carries the show in my opinion. Or is at least the most interesting character.
Peter (Joshua Jackson) is fantastic as well. I mean shit, Olivia (Anna Norve) does great too. The three of them in this show just nail their performances. I love all the cameos we see in the show, both Bad Robots alumni and others. Even the few times that Leonard Nemoy graces us are so memorable to me. I really do love this show. More so than X-Files.

Side note: Of all the supporting cast, the actor that play September, absolutely nails every scene, in every season, especially season 5 when he’s less of an Observer. I truly felt his emotions.

It's obvious that unlike Lost they had imagined a great ending from the beginning but they ruined the show in season 4 by basically resetting almost all the characters effectively killing the old ones which was fucking idiotic and even though season 5 was good it's obvious they didn't have the budget for it and for me personally I still couldn't get over what they did in the previous season. But yeah, I appreciate that the writers weren't cynical pricks like Lindelof and actually wrote an ending from the very beginning

I agree that Fringe went a little too far in the later seasons but DAMN was that inital reveal of the dimensional theft of the kid a fucking HOLY SHIT moment!

Really need to do an x-files/fringe rewatch at some point, probably when I'm retired and at the "old man shakes fist at clouds" phase of life and these shows are on tvland in 2040 :p

I really enjoyed Fringe, i've watched the series back a few times and LOST once, neither have good endings, that's not where the good writing is anyway, it's the journey, i can't think of any great endings to popular shows, look at Game of Thrones.

I did that with X-Files and it honestly aged pretty badly. The over-aching plot was pretty small actually spanning within only a few episodes overall and it pretty much concluded after season 6 or 7 iirc then the show kinda wondered aimlessly from there. The first season that is always being praised was actually pretty bad with some very cringe episodes, a couple of later seasons (around 5 or 6) were far better imo

Yeah, thats my worry. I watched xfiles in college when I (sadly) had a lot of lonely friday nights. Thankfully hard to recapture that particular emotional stew :p

But I think there is value in the "comfort food" type TV and these long running episodic shows had that stuff in spades. Not really much like it these days.

Yeah I agree, I tried to watch Evil a few months ago for something like that since very few modern shows are like that nowadays and it was so. fucking. dumb.

I watched the first few seasons of this show a couple years ago when I was desperate for something to watch. It felt dated but it had its charms, lost interest before the end, it just got tiresome.

The actor that plays September is so damn great in Season 5. It’s stupid that Hollywood hasn’t taken notice of this actor.

I dunno, Fringe finale (all last season actually) was shit no doubt, but Lost's was so good.

I mean, the idea that in the end it was all a search for the next immortal light keeper, and all candidates end up stuck in limbo, unknowingly waiting for each other before crossing together into the afterlife, was quite the twist and damn poignant. I can't think of another show that ends up on such a high note. I felt meaningful and truly the end of a fantastic journey.

Yes. It turns to complete shit a couple of seasons in. Its a classic example of a show that only worked when posing questions, as soon as it tried to answer or explain anything it fell flat on its face.

Also, if you like the characters, bail out early.

I think the ending is perfect. Last season is definitely not the best season of the show. However, it has the best moments of the show.

The last seasons were very disappointing to me, I don't know if I even got to the finale. The best part is the first season and that older man actor. Many seem to disagree and they love the whole shabang, but I strongly disagree.
