Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles looked wack too and opened to $65M in the wake of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Then the sequel came and didn't even make half as much.

Because it turned out to BE wack. Then the sequel came and didn't even make half as much.
I'm not sure. There's pretty much always been a power rangers show on TV plus I always see their toys at the store. The trailer views are strong enough I wouldn't doubt a $50M opening right now.Do kids still like Power Rangers?
Turtles at least stayed pretty popular since the 90s between the various TV shows and the never ending merchandising.
Looked better than Lego Batman. The Power Rangers trailer was lame. Movie will probably suck.

power rangers looked lame the same way transformers looks lame
stay underestimating nostalgia. not everyone is all anal about bad special effects and terrible designs and costumes and shit. they see it's power rangers, they remember loving power rangers as a kid, as they're sold.
Arrival is doing pretty poorly in China.
Chinese audiences have spoken

EDIT: Also, I like how Google Translate re-translates the Chinese version of "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" to "PIONEER DREAMSON: ultimate returns"
EDIT2: Rogue One is "Star Wars Gaiden: Grand Theft Auto One"
EDIT3: Bridget Jones' Baby is "Single diary: good pregnant incoming"
.... I should do something more productive
Arrival is a pretty esoteric story, i can see how it might not survive translation.Arrival is doing pretty poorly in China.

When are the Oscar noms coming out, tomorrow or Tuesday? I need La La Land to dominate so I can rub it into someone's face. 😂
I hope M. Night stays in the the low budget horror/thriller genre. It's such a great comeback story.
If he keeps self-financing I imagine he will, no reason to bounce higher
Damn. That is a great opening for M. Night.
Agreed. But I think that everyone will see this as a win for M. Night and his ability to open a film rather than a win for McAvoy. It was sold on the director's name and the marketplace was ready for a horror.
Also interesting that McAvoy stars in this film (but it isn't his film) and its a hit, but when former co-star Fassbender crafts a vehicle for himself in Ass Credd no one turns up.
Of course it was, but McAvoy is getting more then enough praise.
Which is fair enough but it won't add any 'heat' to him. My point was no one will see this as 'win' for McAvoy.
The film earned a solid $50.5 million overseas for a $70.5m debut weekend around the world. For what it's worth, that's about the entire global cume ($71m) of xXx: State of the Union.

MONSTER TRUCKS dipped a moderate -36% w/ $7M, $22M total.
Speaking of State Of The Union, I saw Cube in the commercial for the new xXx.
I take it, all three movies are canon now?
What? This will be huge for McAvoy. I have no idea why you would feel that.

Monster Trucks with one of the best weekend holds. Truly elite.
