So Power Rangers overdelivering?
Looks like it. I was told on twitter the budget was $100 million.
Since Ghost in the Shell came up, boxoffice.com updated their long term forecast list yesterday.

Ghost in the Shell was downgraded to a $32M opening weekend and $82M total. The Boss Baby was raised to $33M opening weekend and $112M total.

Their initial forecast for Alien Covenant is $35M OW/$90M total

It will come out in China. Pretty much everything from Lionsgate does. Nerve came out in China.
If GITS loses to Boss Baby, the Internet would implode.

It's sort of crazy that Beauty and the Beast will end up over The Jungle Book's domestic total by next Friday or Saturday.

Maleficent's total was really impressive back when it released, but now that's mid-level for Disney's live action fairy tale stuff.

The live action Disney Renaissance films are going to crush the box office.

Lion King maybe. Aladdin isn't. Not unless there is some very inspired casting for the genie. But looking at how the blu release of Aladdin went, that seems to have fallen a bit in stature over the years.

Still gonna make bank.

Yeah but they're also not nostalgic for edgy teen power rangers. The whole concept never made sense. They shown have targeted this and made it like a Superhero movie not this entirely weird offshoot that the franchise has never been marketed as or experimented with for the franchise.
It was made like a superhero movie.

It's totally gonna be Jack Black.

Yeah, I was going to say that Beauty and the Beast has since become the second most popular film of that era behind the Lion King.

Rth is saying $38-39M on Saturday for BatB and $14M for Power Rangers.

EDIT: Even on the $38M low end, that would equal a high 80s-low 90s weekend for Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast will have the 4th best 10-day total of all time after The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and the Avengers. Of course, those three films were all way ahead.

$39M would be a 37.7% Saturday-to-Saturday decline; better than Alice, Oz, and Cinderella and not too far off from Jungle Book. That could lead to a low 50's third weekend and let Beast continue to stay ahead of the pace of The Dark Knight.

Guy Ritchie is directing Aladdin, right? I feel like there's a good chance the film is a real weird piece of work that doesn't quite connect with audiences in the same way as other Disney live-action films.

No. It will be Kevin Hart

what a way to shit on the memory of Robin Williams. should just skip the genie altogether if they consider kevin hart.

that would be cool. last few disney remakes have seemed pretty bland.

I'm sure once his King Arthur movie (which looks like ten different levels of ass) flops he'll be quietly replaced.

King Arthur looks fun. Like very over the top and dumb entertainment but it looks like it could be enjoyable. Prolly will be a flop though.

Who's a modern day robin willaims who has a good voice. Being a box office draw helps too

Kevin hart is the first person that comes to mind tbh

I dunno, but Kevin Hart is a modern day Martin Lawrence. But much worse, because at least he gave us Martin and Bad Boys movies. fuck that guy breh.

Genie seems like one of those irreplaceable acts, honestly I think it should be a woman for the disney remake. Makes things a bit easier.

Lion King is an absolute beast. It's box office receipts, the DVD sales for the shitty sequels (and half sequels), the broadway receipts. its gonna be an event.

Why did Disney do a bunch of direct to video sequels of films like Lion King and Aladdin anyway? They would have made a ton in the box office.

Not modern at all but could somebody like Jim Carrey replicate that energy?

I just miss Jim Carrey :[

Jim Carrey is such an underrated actor. It's a damn shame he barely comes in much these days, and when he does it's some crap film.

Good at drama and comedy. Needs a dope director to pull him in again. Like a Steve Carell type of career.

I think it was just a different era and the idea of spending a bunch of money on a Lion King 2 and releasing it in theaters probably never occurred to anyone.. Sequels in general were not nearly as ubiquitous back in the '90s as they are today, and that goes doubly so for animated films. I'm pretty sure Disney didn't release a sequel in theaters until Toy Story 2.

Apparently the new day from wwe are playing the hyenas
WHO WHO WHO WHO WHO

I could see it.

If they're just having a dude voice over a CGI Genie, the guy who currently does the voice in Kingdom Hearts is a pretty good Williams imitation (it's not Castellaneta anymore).

Thing is Lion King is STILL huge. Hell there an animated show on TV right now Lion Guard based on it that's super popular with kids.

If it's remotely good Lion King will be enormous and the biggest of these live action remakes imo. If Jungle Book can almost do a billion I have no problem seeing a good Lion King doing 1.5+

I think Power Rangers is just to test the water, Lionsgate isn't expecting to make a lot of money back on this. But they're gauging public interest in sequel where they can hopefully improve upon and draw in those that aren't hardcore power rangers fans
