Next week - Ron Emmerich slams Finding Dory and talking fish movies

Still plan on seeing it. Did a re-watch of ID4 with Rifftrax and now I'm all set.
 
ID 2´s production budget: $165 million. I don´t see if the movie will be profitable. It launched in almost every major market except Japan, Germany and France.

Dory will pass Zootopia's domestic total this coming Friday or Saturday. If it misses the mark on Friday, it will only be by a couple million.



So last year, Universal and Disney scored the first and second biggest studio percentage shares of all time at 21.3% and 19.8% respectively. Disney is currently sitting at about 32% of the domestic box office, and looking at their remaining release schedule, it looks like they will be close to or over $3B for the calendar year domestically. That would put them pretty close to keeping that 30% share (maybe 27% or so).
 
Seeing all these bombas left and right, is it fair to say that American audiences are less fooled by shitty movies then they were in the past? Or maybe it'd be more accurate to say that more and more audiences are paying close attention to RT before they throw down $18 on a movie ticket.

I'm very curious to know how the next Transformers will fare domestically.
 
ID:R making less OW than the original is hilarious. I knew there wasn't going to be the same kind of nostalgic pull for ID that there was for Jurassic.

Really, never understood why anyone outside of the US should be slightly nostalgic for that.
Wasnt even sure that americans would be nostalgic.

In the years since it came out, I think people started realizing the movie just wasn't very good. It had memorable moments (the speech, the white house blowing up), and was the thing that made Will Smith a star, but I think Fox really overestimated people's love for that movie.

ur suggestions are v similar to those on sites reporting the weekend box office, which I TRY not to do? I try to make titles that reference GAF/box office thread discussions & the movies themselves (one of Dory's most famous lines from Nemo is 'just keep swimming') a lot of the time, but that also entertain me. :) It's hard keeping this stuff fresh for almost 10 years, guys... ;P

I don't think so.

Originally Emmerich wanted to do two films for it. Fox told him he gets one. I feel like if they were really had faith in it, it would have got the two Emmerich wanted.

They still sunk $165 million into this, so they had to have some level of faith. A sequel should just not have been made w/o Will Smith.
 
Sucks about ID4. Will Smith may or may not have been a boost to the movie, but it was definitely missing his presence. Everyone was there, except him. Made it feel a little off at first. Nonetheless, I thought it was a very mediocre film. It was certainly entertaining, but nothing I'm itching to tell my friends about.

Still haven't seen "Finding Dory" yet (if I'm too lazy I'll just catch after it leaves theaters), but wow. Those are some insane numbers.

As one of only two people in my screening of Neon Demon I'm not surprised to see those numbers for it.

Can't say I really care though - movie was shit.

ID2 - to its credit - wasn't really any better or worse than the first.
 
Andrew Stanton's out of the doghouse, will probably be wasting hundreds of Disney's millions in a live action CGfest in the near future.
 
Disney isnt going to give their animation directors $175M+ budgets for live action film again in the near future unless they are working on one of the studio driven product lines.

Andrew Stanton will work on the Iron Man reboot, and Brad Bird on live action Incredibles, which will be part of the MCU!

So, I haven't really followed its progress, but would I be right to assume that Alice Through The Looking Glass has been a bit of a flub for Disney? Especially compared to the surprisingly successful original.

People who watched Avatar in 3D, got to see Alice 1 trailer in 3D

No one went ZOMG Alice! must see for story, most went for the 3D effect which was done very well for its infancy stage
 
I liked Central Intelligence.

Felt like a new-age Rush Hour in some respects.

Rock and Hart had great chemistry. Wouldn't be surprised to see a sequel.
 
Judging from those numbers I better see ID4R quickly in theaters before it leaves. The last weeks of July movie releases are gonna bump it out.

You're the superfan, you should tell us as we're expecting you to go on day 1 and report back if Finding Dory is the second greatest film ever made.
 
Finding Dory will pass $300M domestic on Tuesday, giving us 6 films over the $300M mark so far this year.

The next 6 films for 2016 (#7-12) range from $151M to $77M.
