Only after it roars like a lion after pursuing Mrs. Brody while she has a flashback to Brody killing the shark in the first film, which she was not witness to.

Oh, and the shark has a psychic link to Mrs. Brody that allows it to know where she is at all times.

Jaws: The Revenge is fucking insane.

Still sounds more interesting than Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.

It's too bad that Box Office GAF has died down a lot since 2012. That Avengers opening week thread had over 2000 posts. Now, even on big weekends, we barely crack 3-4 pages.

The AHBUDAR run was the golden age of the box office threads.

GhaleonEB had the best breakdowns (as iirc, he is a numbers guy).

Good times.

What is the plot of Fast and Furious? I saw dropping from an airplane in some promo and I was like... Oooook.

Jason Statham is the new scowling bald dude on the cast and he shows up in every scene to make a mess while the crew destroy supercars in at least 3 different countries. Vin Diesel tries but fails to play a guy in love. Paul Walker plays an android. Every unnamed woman on screen exists to provide establishing crotch/ass shots because it's a party everywhere the Furious crew goes. Shit explodes and nobody in the city seems to notice or care. I think at least 30 thousand innocent civilians are maimed or killed but eh. A black guy says 'oh hell no.' Maybe that last part is a spoiler.

So Furious 7 would end up worldwide ahead of Frozen and behind The Avengers... I expected it to do better than F&F6, but not THAT much better.

Next year we have Batman v Superman and Captain America v Iron Man Civil War, so your wish will come true! :p

I've been lurking these threads for a while but I'm ready to contribute!

Can't believe that many people went to see Paul blart 2.

The most hilarious thing is that that Chinese record won't last long at all. Avengers will probably bumrush it.

I've seen the movie, and it really offers nothing new over F6. Just a crazier version of the same thing. The last two movies have everything you mentioned, except Walker being dead. This massive increase in popularity is as crazy and nonsensical as the movie itself. Personally it was barely a passable afterthought of a time, but that doesn't really matter.

I'd definitely say F7 has been marketed more, no?

Hope furious 7 can get to 300 mil domestically. Glad avengers is not coming this weekend, more room for Furious to do some damage.

It's at $294 right now. It's literally impossible that it doesn't get to 300.

You know, since I got rid of cable and I'm not constantly bombarded with trailers for shitty movies, I don't mind them so much. If you want a positive spin, though, it is a decent drop from the first movie. It's certainly doing fine, but I can't imagine we'll get a third with that drop, unless it has some okay legs.

It also has Mario Van Peebles as the least convincing Jamaican ever. I think Andy Samberg's Ras Trent character from the Lonely Island was more authentic. It is a terrible movie, but your head will spin at all the miscalculations on display in that film. As much as you shouldn't, it needs to be seen to be believed.

I haven't seen F6 or F7, but isn't the whole crew rich as fuck after stealing that drug lord's money?

They were, but they were wanted criminals, so they couldn't go back home. F6 happens because The Rock goes to them and is all 'yo there's some evil version of your crew rolling around, you all get pardoned if you get em', and then the evil guy is all 'yo, I got a fucking tank' and Vin Diesel is all 'fuck'

F7 happens because the brother of the bad guy in F6 goes 'yo, fuck you' and Vin Diesel goes 'fuck, my car'

Yeah, and I know a lot of people who frankly don't care about reviews, so I think the audience will always be there.

“[Paul Blart 2] is about having fun and having some laughs with the whole family and it delivers on that,” said Bruer. “If critics don’t get that, I guess maybe they needed to see it with an audience or bring their kids.”

Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy.

But are they still rich, I didn't ask for a thesis on the Van Diesel School of Acting.

It's crazy to think that the seventh movie in a series is able to pull these numbers but then I also remember the 4th highest grossing film is Harry Potter. Which was the 8th.

We will probably get some renewed interest when Star Wars comes out.

Yup. I already see and hear people talking about Star Wars being the first film to do over $3 billion worldwide.

I have no idea what they are basing this on but from now until Xmas people are going to be pulling all sorts of nonsensical numbers out of thin air.

I couldn't remember how much the older F&F movies had made, so went to check on BOM, and damn, that is some mindblowing impressive growth:

Looking at the worldwide chart, looks like Kingsman will just barely get to $400m worldwide.

Both 6 and 7 made more domestically than 1 to 3 did worldwide... That's insane. Has there been another series that has had big jumps the later it went on?

Furious 7 is the seventh highest grossing movie of all time now.

Why.

The box office is officially a mystery to me. Especially the Chinese one.

Well Furious 7 is one of the best movies to watch ever... so there's that.

I'm careful not to say "one of the best movies ever made" because I think the final act is weak, but this movie gave me one of the best experiences watching a movie in my life. It has incredibly satisfying scenes with cars flying in slow-motion.

In my opinion, the scene where
a red sports car jumps in between two skyscrapers (twice)
on its own justifies the current box office success of Furious 7.

Nope, Harry Potter was highly consistent:
Code:
Title Worldwide	Domestic	Overseas	vs Prev vs HP1
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone $974.80 $317.60 $657.20 -- --

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire $896.90 $290.00 $606.90 +12.58% -7.99%
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix	$939.90 $292.00 $647.90 +4.79% -3.58%
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince $934.40 $302.00 $632.50 -0.59% -4.14%
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1	$960.30 $296.00 $664.30 +2.77% -1.49%
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2	$1,341.50 $381.00 $960.50 +39.70% +37.62%

And the only reason the final one spiked so much was because everyone knew it was the final one. Midnight for that was fucking insane. The crowd wasn't as fun as other midnight shows, but the sheer size of it was crazy. Every single screen at my theater was for the midnight.

And with everything moving to Thursday evening shows (which I am glad for), HP8 will keep its record for midnight shows. It pulled in like $45m or so just from midnight. Nothing is going to touch that.

The mystery is that a franchise which was popular in China but not insanely so is going to quadruple its previous gross. The chinese market was already huge for Fast 6, that kind of growth is insane and I don't really get it either.

Even 2 years ago many people who could afford to did not have access to cinemas, so they watched it online illegally instead. There were 5000 new screens added in 2013 alone.

Their population is several times than that of the US and yet they have less number of screens. It's more a case of them finally catching up to the rest of the world (though still not quite there yet). If any the major blockbusters from the last decade were released today they would show similar numbers.

So basically as the Chinese add more and more screens the records are going to keep breaking and breaking...I'm not sure how I feel about this.
