Wonder Woman - First look

Cool, like the era. Not really bothered by her physique, can't expect women to bulk like guys, athletic and toned yes. Her acting is the key aspect, nice look in the mirror there but hearing her speak is challenging Cavill in the no charisma stakes from her appearances in F&F.

What a strange thing to think.

Because I don't think she looks skinny or small from the footage I've seen. She looks pretty much like Wonder Woman images that pop up when I google them. So pointing at the comics how this is a "wrong" portrayal doesn't add up.

I'm guessing her audition opposite to Ben Affleck meant nothing at all, right?

I'm going to say the audition process for WW was probably a bit more rigorous than whatever her role in Fast and the Furious was.

Speaking of people who aren't actors, remember when Will Smith was put at the center of a TV show strictly because he had a shitload of debts to pay and had absolutely zero acting training, and needed a shit ton of help when the camera wasn't rolling? Seemed to work out for him.
My point is, look at all of the actresses they didn't even consider. As with Cavill they have cast a model, and not a Pedigreed actor.

Why would they cast someone if they didn't believe she could give a decent performance? The whole thing would fall apart.

It's too early to say how she'll be yet.
I think that accurately describes Man of Steel.

Gal Gadot: 1.78m
Olga Kurylenko: 1.74m
Emily Blunt: 1.71m
Jaimie Alexander: 1.75m

that's going from height, she is taller therefore more imposing.

Wonder Woman

Sif

They look pretty similar to me.
I think the difference is that WW's outfit is more revealing.

She was cast in Fast & Furious coming out of the Miss Universe pageant with no acting experience. She was cast entirely based on her appearance.

Not according to her:

[Director] Justin Lin and I knew we were going to work on [three films together], and we wanted her to evolve. I think the main reason was that Justin really liked that I was in the Israeli military, and he wanted to use my knowledge of weapons.

Lucy Lawless looks more imposing, pics don't do it justice but in video way more.

Gadot is taller than Lucy.

I would love to see jacked female superheroes as well - but that doesn't mean that every female superhero needs to be ripped. That's as silly as saying none of them should be. I think obsessing so much over looks is odd regardless. Wonder Woman should be an imposing figure, yes, but Gadot is taller than most female actresses, is clearly fit and has outlined a workout regime she started long before filming, and has real life fight training experience from before.

Also people in the know say she kills the performance in BvS. I doubt there's much to worry about, she impressed people in tests and got the role of a character that needs to exude charisma. Plenty of people get big roles without experience - that she was a model is not grounds to say she's any less fit for the job than other up and comers.

She's already been putting on weight. She was rail thin in Fast Five.

Gal is of similar build to many current drawings of Wonder Woman. Hell, Lynda Carter owns the role and she was slim too.

Well, to be fair they can ask but that doesn't mean she has to listen. It's not like they are going to delay shooting until she bulks up. I just always think about Marlon Brando showing up as a whale to Apocalypse Now and driving Coppolla nuts.

That said, are ya'll still harping on about her body image, Jesus can you talk about nothing else? I don't give a shit if she's jacked or not I care if the movie is any damn good, stop trying to push for an idealized comic book look on a movie actor which cannot possibly be achieved by a real life individual. Grant Gustin looks like he could be knocked over by a gust of wind but he's FANFUCKINGTASTIC as The Flash. I don't need him to be jacked.

Of course. If they wanted her to look different for the role, she would do that. Stuff like that is in the agreement when you sign up. Or they would have cast someone different.

She also trained and worked out for the role to increase muscle. She looks fine for the role.

I don't have any problem with the way she looks and I know she's been putting up weight for the role. I was speaking about it relative to people's expectations that she'd be much more muscular.

The way people talk about it is like she decides what the portrayal of WW is going to look like, where in my mind the studio already had an idea in mind when they were looking for actresses for the role.
She's a supermodel not some A list actress that's going to make sure bank, I doubt she was putting up demands when they took her in for such a huge role in BvS

gal gadot

and that actresses that were rumored to play WW before GG landed the role

Jaimie Alexander

Olga Kurylenko

Emily Blunt

They all have similar body type, so you were going to complain regardless if it was Gadot or any of those actresses playing WW?

It always cracked me up how many people clamored for Jaimie Alexander to be cast as WW because of her portrayal of Sif in the Thor movies, when she's just as thin as Gadot.

I would disagree. He had almost no charisma and was extremely wooden as an actor. He's a good-looking guy and got in ridiculous shape but that was all he brought to the table.

Was fine in Man from UNCLE. The problem was MoS' script gave most characters very little to work with.

Looks okay to me. Gal looks alright... I wanted Wonder Women to be more fierce in her looks and she gives me that nice girl look but it's whatever.

I'll still see it to support a lead sister. I just hope it's good.

I think that accurately describes Man of Steel.

Cavil was a lead in a fairly critically acclaimed TV series for 3 years before Man of Steel. Regardless of what you think of his performances as Supes, he's not just a fucking model, christ.

Not according to her:
She's a pageant contestant who happened to have done military service. Millions of women have come out of the IDF (not to mention other militaries) and it was her who was cast in the film. It's not like she's a distinguished weapons expert.

Again, not hired for her acting credentials.

I've always considered Wonder Woman to be more masculine and with a large frame, so seeing her being played by a pretty skinny girl feels dissonant.

That said, I'm all for the Wonder Woman franchise getting more success and exposure. I'm in. :)

Lol. Let's review the mound of awards he was nominated for off of that performance.

Offensive assumption. Because she's pretty? There are millions of model look-ready women around the world.

Fast and Furious is one thing but she certainly wouldn't be hired for a series of films she had to carry on her shoulders if the filmmakers didn't believe she had the chops to captivate people.

I like the desaturated colours. It fits the WW1 tone they're no doubt going for, and I don't automatically equate "colourful" with "good."

I also feel like we heard of her casting

She read for the part a handful of times including reading with Affleck who was the one who helped decide it needed to be her

What people need to realize is that most superheroes when gifted don't need to be jacked in any sort of way.

SHE'S A MYSTICAL GODDESS MADE FROM CLAY

My problems with Gadot was that her cast suggested that they would downplay the "brutal warrior" side of Diana.

Beating nazis with shield and storming with a horse and sword kinda helped me ease those feeling considerably.

Hollywood will NOT choose a broad muscular woman to play a main lead in a blockbuster this century, so Gadot is awesome for what we could have gotten.

That said, my complain is the HOLY SHIT those scenes of her in costume were without color even considering the already colorless DCU O.o

Every single one of them is as bad as Gadot.

It looks like the next Taylor Swift video, featuring Taylor Swift cosplaying Wonder Woman. I guess the market isn't ready for a bulky muscular woman lead? Well it's not like this is going to make more money anyways.

Lucy Lawless starred in one of the most popular action shows in the 90s. The public was totally fine with the way she looked.

There are dozens of actresses out there who could have fit the role better. If this was 10-15 years ago I'd suggest someone like Cory Everson. Hngggggggggg
