Wonder Woman Is a Disjointed Disaster (Says DC Insider)

What you quoted is just someone listing the plots of the movies, basically, not criticism of the actual artistry by which those characters are rendered. On a dramatic level, Marvel movies are as off-the-rack as they come. Batman Begins used clever editing to elucidate Bruce's character in a way that you wouldn't get from pure dialogue, the Raimi Spiderman movies are filled with little moments and lines that are both extremely telling of Parker's character while simultaneously reinforcing the everyman appeal that make him so enduring, but Marvel movies are basically just a series of 5-6/10 scripts filmed in the flattest way possible.
This is part of the reason why I've never emotionally connected to any character in a Marvel or DC movie outside of Nolan and Raimi stuff. They're focused on characters and filmmaking rather than plotlines, crossovers, and fanservice. The fact that none of them are standalone says a lot about where their goals differ.

I pretty much expect this kind of story for every DCEU film at this point. Hopefully it's not true as DC characters deserve better than what we have got so far.

I'm pulling for this to work but every DCEU film falls into the "it has potential but it's forgettable" territory.

Cool thing about the properties is that they'll always be relevant and popular. If this doesn't improve, a reboot will come around sooner rather than later and shake stuff up. People love bats and supes even if they didn't all love BvS.

Jor-El's speech before Supes takes flight was inspiring and powerful. The Hans Zimmer score also helped.

Yeah the problem is Superman just goes on to like...never demonstrate any of that, at least dramatically. BvS was probably impossibly flawed as a concept before they even got started, but the decision to compress Superman's heroics to a montage at the beginning of him saving people from fires or whatever and really making the meat of the movie the punchout with Batman and the punchout with Doomsday just feels misguided on every level

A comic book movie revolving around ancient Greek myths and motifs, crying out for stylized action and grandiose characters?

Fuck that's like 300. Just get the guy responsible for that masterpiece involved.
LOL. I don't understand how Snyder could get so bad at making movies. 300 isn't high art, but it's pretty damn good for what it is.

Suicide Squad is supposed to be a fun little side project in the vain of Marvel movies. it's not meant to be taken seriously. you watch it once, laugh a few times and forget about it. the theater i was in loved it. and i gotta admit it was infectious and i loved it too. i noticed a lot of problems on my second viewing but it did what it set out to do. Make a funny, action packed blockbuster and they succeeded.

What ended up happening is that all the critics and fans decided to treat this like a fucking oscar contender and absolutely ravaged it. we care about editing and narrative flow in our comic book movies now? we care about villains in our movies now? where was this outrage where iron man 2 and thor 2 ended up in the 70s on rotten tomatoes? even Star Wars Episode 3 is in the 70s. and that movie is fucking trash.

there is this double standard that seems to be hitting DC movies. it started with Man of Steel which was a perfectly fine comic book movie. it sat at a 56% of rotten tomatoes and the internet was brutal with its memes and treating it like a piece of shit movie while completely ignoring problems with how formulaic and forgettable marvel movies had become. i didnt care because i still had a few laughs and liked the visuals in marvel movies, but now i am like why am i giving these movies a break when others arent willing to do with D.C movies?

In no universe, do BvS and SS belong in the 20s. I dont care how rottentomatoes measures their reviews but that is simply absurd. i refuse to believe that over 70% of the critics thought they were rotten and over 70% of the same critics thought IM2,IM3, Thor 2 were fresh.

Not sure about that.

I really liked Man of Steel a lot. But I'm normally pretty easy to please. I usually switch off when I watch almost any movie. Which kinda makes the truly bad movies stand out.

Suicide Squad was a legitimately bad movie. Batman vs Superman was ok. Not terrible.

Oh God no, this was the only movie that looked good from the trailers.

DCU has been such a let down. I can't convey how much so and the damage it has done in my confidence in any of the movies. I just expect them all to be bad now.

Where is my DCU equivalent of Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, surprise hits?

Isn't that speech basically just stolen from better Superman material where he actually acts like Superman?

LOL. I don't understand how Snyder could get so bad at making movies. 300 isn't high art, but it's pretty damn good for what it is.
He's good at copying comic book pages into film, but should never be allowed to do his own material. The worst parts of the Watchmen movie were the parts he changed/added, then Sucker Punch was all him, and then this shit.

People need to chill out. Even if what the insider source said was true, it's just that person's opinion on the movie at that moment. The final results could be different or you may end up liking it anyways.

Having said that, knowing the DCEU track record, I have low expectations haha.

I disagree with this purely because they've done a fantastic job with MCU Captain America. He feels the most relatable and "real" of the MCU characters.

He's a walking talking Ken doll tbh. If thats the empathetic center of marvel movies, the supposedly "relatable series of films with the most heart in blockbusters today" then God damn this is a shame.

There's always the Raimi movies tho. And bale's Bruce Wayne. Unrivaled by what we're getting now. Logan looks like it might do something good in this aspect tho.

Ken got more personality than the trinity of DCEU combined.

Did you say damage?

A ken doll that has three movies better than BvS and SS and two better than MoS

And Rami Spider-Man? Overrated aight movies that are not great now.

Loool where did I mention DCEU movies. If you wanna keep talking that persecution complex that you keep harping on about then it's time to realize you're right in the middle of it

Of course superman and wonder woman are pretty devoid of personality as well. Although I disagree that any Cap movie is better than BvS. And man of Steel > cap 1

Sephzilla I have the higher ground tho. Don't even try jumping up at me. I will slice you and leave you to build a death star and shit on me later.

Yeah, the speech comes from All-Star Superman.
The flight following comes from Birthright.

Almost nothing from either book is then successfully translated to film.

(Secret Identity is the best Superman graphic novel & would make an amazing movie if faithfully adapted. It'd be a one & done, of course, but fuck it - at this point they should chuck continuity and just make Superman movies like they used to make Bond movies)

Disco fucking hates most cape movies except for Spidey, you dope

Also I still think Cap 1 is wack after he gets the serum

Nah, Disco is just so bitter about the MCU raking in money and high RT scores that he was driven to liking BvS. We could have prevented it but we just stood by and did nothing. This is on all of us.

I can't put my finger on why but this video just makes Grace and other DCEU fans come across as sad and desperate.

I dont have that at all really. There are some points indeed that make sense if you look at the bigger picture and past comments like "offcourse it will suck" and "offcourse it will be good"

"except for Spidey" hmmmm? Amazing Spidey 1 & 2 as well? :P

Don't you have a showdown to train for? Slayven is in his basement flipping a tire right now.

Well yeah, after he gets his serum that's when the movie started to go downhill.

Like I said, there are two Cap movies better than Man of Steel. I agree that Man of Steel is better than Cap 1. I mentioned DCEU as we in a DCEU topic. I be starting mess but I know what I'm doing.

I hope it's good.

If it isn't me and my friends can go watch it to laugh at it like we did for BvS.

I wonder if people realize that Warner Bros doesn't care why you bought a ticket so long as you bought a ticket.

Supporting their trash just means more garbage because in their eyes it is working as intended. BvS and SS may have been received as the hot garbage they were but they both made a shitload of money.

At this point the only interest in the DC-movie-verse I have is seeing how bad the train wreck is going to be. That said if Wonder Woman had the BvS WW theme in the background for the entire length of the film, I'd be there day 1.

What? Why? Did I miss some despicable thing she did?

She rubs people up the wrong way with her attitude and persona. Kind of like a figjam attitude. I personally can't stand her.

Snyder would be a much better cinematographer or assistant director. That's a role that much better compliments his strengths

I've been saying this for quite a while.
Then people say "Watchmen was a masterpiece" (even when it was mediocre at best).

I honestly feel that some DCCU fans have this weird Stockholm Syndrome.
