World Championship Poker DS Appreciation Thread

I searched for threads, found two that only announced the release:

I got World Championship Poker DS this week and it rocks. You use the stylus to touch cards. Anyone who's played video poker on other consoles knows that using a D-Pad gets old fast. Plus, the focus isn't just Texas Hold Em. There's Omaha, 7 card stud, 5 card draw, video poker, blackjack, hi-lo, even a token wild card draw game. Plus there's a DOA Extreme VB-esque shop, hold em tournaments at various casinos, and multiplayer.

You can dismiss this as shareware fodder, but it's a lot better than most poker shareware, and it's much better than WCP on PS2 (different developers). It's no killer ap for DS (too niche), but it definitely shows off the system and a must for poker players.

Anyone else playing this?

Wouldn't it have been better to at least wait for Ultimate Card Games to be released first? Of course that's been delayed from a May release to somewhere in November iirc (to add online multiplayer perhaps?).

World Champ Poker DS is a very solid game in it's own right and supports 6 player Download Play support. Yes, I'm sure Ultimate Card games with stomp this in the ground with it's breadth of options, but until then WCP: DS will hold poker-fiends over.

That's being said - I went from not having anyhting to play on my DS to now having too much. WCP: DS, Pac-Pix, Nintendogs - the DS is taking up a majority of my play time.

With touch screen and all, DS is heaven sent for poker games. I wish they would remake Samantha Fox Strip Poker for the handheld... :)

This is an astonishingly good release (given that it's crave), but I'm waiting for the Ultimate games. I'm not so big on poker, and UCG just blows this away in breadth.

It got delayed until November...really? Ultimate Brain Games and Ultimate Card Games are both confirmed to be online apparently, but I thought they would be released this summer :(

Edit: Wait...EBgames.com says 06/01/05 for the Card games and 07/19/05 for the Brain games.

I'm waiting for Ultimate Card Games, too. That doesn't mean this doesn't look solid, which it does.

probably go nab PAc Pix pretty quick here. That looks really good.

Did Electroplankton actually get confirmed for a US release, or am I crazy?

I was just going to wait for Ult. Card but if I can find this for less that $29, I'll buy.

You know what would be great? If Ult.Card games had some kind of free play mode where you and a friend have a deck of cards, no set gameplay rules by the game, you could just mess around with cards on a table (dragging into piles, flipping...) playing all kinds of games like speed or whatever they don't have included. Man, I am genius!

I wanted to wait for ultimate card games, but the DS needs more games as is, and a delay is the last thing I wanted to see. I'll probably pick this up

See, Ultimate Card Games killed it. I even had a copy of World Championship Poker held to the side for me, then right after I was going to buy it, I heard the huge Ultimate Card Games news. That game WILL have Texas Hold 'em and a ton of other poker games that World Championship Poker has, AND it will be online. I can't even recommend the game to anyone at work unless they really want a poker game now...which is still cool because indeed World Championship Poker DS is an awesome game. It's just the sense of nullification for me...buying one thing, and then buying the other game that completely voids my playtime with another $30 investment. Now what am I going to do with my GBA version of the game...

It'll be a while, but we all know that Ultimate Card (and Brain) Games DS will be worth the wait.
