I dont follow World Cup stats at all, but for decades I do know Portugal is a team always discussed as a potential winner.... along with Germany, France, Brazil etc...
Looking at Portugal's world cup history, I never knew they never won a cup or even made the finals. They've made it to the semis a few times and that's it. The past 20 years, most of the time they dont even advance past the group stage or get eliminated in round of 16.
Must be a lot of hype due to Ronaldo carrying the team far.

Why would FIFA be supporting Morocco? If they were theoretically trying to rig it wouldn’t they want an Argentina/Portugal final rather than backing Morocco? Messi vs Ronaldo in the World Cup final would be the biggest “storyline” they could hope for to catch the public interest.

Oh ok, the person you had replied to had said what Morocco did was impressive so when you said “of course it’s impressive” I thought you were referring to them. Or do you mean they were biased against Portugal to help Argentina? Of all the teams on that side of the bracket I would have said France were the best team, so if there is some pro-Argentina conspiracy wouldn't they want to knock out France to give Argentina the best chance in the final?

As i said its no coincidence that the ref was argentine , he did everything to help marrocco win. There were multiple times they were wasting time and not even a yellow card. Not to mention other things...

Just seems to be that most people think the referees are biased against them. That’s just football really. Like yesterday I saw a bunch of Argentinians complaining during the Netherlands game because they felt their team was being treated unfairly during the game.
Here’s a post from Sergio Aguero during that game as an example:
Messi was complaining after the match about the referee too
If there was some grand plan to have the officials be biased towards Argentina then surely the Argentinians shouldn’t be feeling hard done by?

Argentina vs Netherlands had 3 referees from Spain and got 10 yellow cards for almost anything you can think of. They grabbed Messi so many times on the midfield that he finally grabbed the ball with the hand and the ref knew why he do that.
Those who are against Argentina are blind on the ref as the Netherlands team from Van Gaal to the players. They tried to be brave to a south american team and they forgot those players were raised in adversity. Trying to scare talking shit before and during the game and even the PK just got to them the response you saw, like it or not they looked for it.

There's usually fines etc. for slagging off shit referees which is unfortunate as they are answerable to nobody and often their mistakes cost jobs / titles / relegations etc.

I agree. Some really uneven referring during the whole cup. Argentina pushed things and so did Netherlands. BUT I must say that it reminds me of the vigor Maradona and those Argentina teams had to win. Antagonistic behavior from the Netherlands didn't help and Argentina responded. I've watched all too much to catch every thing on this and the game got chippy due to a lot of Netherlands talking but that's the game. I love it on both sides. It's drama.
The refs simply mess that up or lose control in the case of the Argentina/Netherlands match.
Lionel Messi was among a World Cup record 17 players or coaching staff members who were shown yellow cards during or after the game.
