So weird seeing relics of a game that has withstood the test of time longer than any other.
Like I'm flying to Azshara for my DH campaign and I ended up flying through Felwood. Like...who even goes there anymore? I ended up bumping into one paladin leveling there, and even that blew my mind.
This game is so massive, years of man hours put into developing these big sections of the game that most don't even see/go to anymore.
Its nice to see Legion making use of old content to tell their story, through Ulduar or ICC even with class campaigns.
Been leveling a mage and rather than skip ahead past zones and entire expansions I've just stuck to the main leveling path in the Eastern Kingdom despite being severely overleveled. Just been completing the quests and clearing zones for achievements as well as to grind out faction rep and unlock xmogs. Periodically I'll hop into the dungeon queue to speed my leveling up but I'm too burnt out on the dungeons to do it for long. It's been a nice change of pace to play through some of this older stuff rather than grind my way through the same few dungeons ad nauseum.
Worked my way through most of the Eastern Kingdom, just have the Cape of Stranglethorn left, and the zone populations just dies off at the lvl 25-30 gated questing content. On average I'd see 2 to 3 players in zones like the Arathi Highlands, the Hinterlands, the Western Plaguelands, The Badlands, the Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge, Swamp of Sorrows and The Blasted Lands. It's nuts that there's this huge world and so much of it is obsolete and empty.
One nice deviation from the desolation was Light's Hope Chapel in the Eastern Plaguelands. On top of the few people leveling, there's lots of high level players, the place is pretty lively compared to all of the zones leading up to it. It's too bad they weren't able to integrate class halls in other old zones. I know there's Fray Island for Warriors (that hut would have been better than the weird Valhalla shit they have now) and Ravenholdt for Rogues but as a newer player I'm unaware of there being other places that have significance for the remaining classes.
It would've been cool to see a few other questing hubs as lively as the EPL. I'm going to run through Kalimdor after the Eastern Kingdoms and I imagine it will be the same once you hit Stone Talon Mountains, every zone after will be a ghost town.
