World War I survival horror game CONSCRIPT launches in 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC

Currently playing this and I'm on what I believe is the final chapter. Also, I'm someone who tends to leave no stone unturned, esp if the world is hand-crafted. I've had a mostly great time with this. I love the chunky pixel art, the sound, the over the top screen shake when you sprint, the game nails a lot of the small details. Enemy variety is a clear weakness of the title, but there are a few surprises. I really liked how it alters some environments in the mid-game and it subverts your expectations.

I do wish the violence was more graphic, I think that would have helped keep combat more engaging while amping up the horror (I'm thinking something that leaned more the direction of Hotline Miami). Still, guns FEEL powerful, and it's satisfying to feel their power grow as you upgrade them. I like the inclusion of the treasure items, a la Resident Evil 4, and I think the inclusion of the merchant is well done.

Exploration is awesome, as are the in-world puzzles/notes you find along the way. I think it's a neat detail that enemies drop photographs of their families after you kill them (seems to be a lot more prevalent in the later chapters).

Obviously I'm playing post-patch so I can't speak to how menacing the rats WERE when the game first launched but I've had very little trouble with them. A minor nuisance that I've been pretty easily sidestepping. They're such a non-factor that I've not bothered with the fuel and lighter at all.

I do think it was a bit much to have keys and quest items take up inventory space as I found it was a cheap way to add to the instances of backtracking.

Hell of good job for a 1 man team and this being his first project.
