Worst game endings...(This generation)

Republic Commando. Sets up a extremely cool mission, complete with a briefing from Yoda, and an unresolved issue with a team mate -- then it just ends...

I had hoped that some downloadable content would be released alongside "Revenge of the Sith", but didn't happen.

It sold quite well, there will be a sequel hopefully as it was an excellent game.

I agree with Republic Commando, very good game, just ended at the worst possible time. Even the build up to the "ending" was excellent, it was as if the game was starting to finally rev up its gears.

Mario Sunshine was a near perfect experience with a very lame ending. Mario 64's ending really rewarded me with a very nicely arranged credit's score set to swooping angles of levels. It just brought everything together so well. But Sunshine failed to really explore the space of the game during the credit sequence, which disappointed me quite a bit.

i think you have some explaining to do.

Ah, was just getting annoyed at seeing Halo 2 for each one. The ending was like Empire Strikes Back and that wasnt shitty.

Did Halo 2 live up to expectations? Yes and No.

Single Player? No. The twist and the story? It was fine The level design compared to the first? Problem is here. Levels arent as expansive as Halo 1 don't feel up to par at all.

Multiplayer? Without modders and standbyers...one of the best multiplayer gaming expierences of all time.

Its still only my opinion but honestly throw games like Enter the Matrix and even Devil May Cry in the fire...great game but then....HEY LETS JUMP IN A AIRPLANE!!!

As for MGS3 2004's GOTY, ending does not suck. The game gives me a funny aurora whenever I hear about it or see a case of it I love it soo much.

has nothing to do with the ending of the game... no one is saying that Halo 2 was a bad game... just that the ending sucked... like KoTOR II...

'cept KOTOR II wuz kinda balls throughout.

An unworthy sequel, I think we can all agree on that.

Yes.

And honestly...it's just such a scam the way Halo 2 ends. Technically, the game is amazing, I'm not faulting the gameplay. But you could remove a lot of the damn story and just give me one more EPIC battle at the end there.

Half-Life 2 was worse than Halo 2, imo.

Honestly, and I shall prepare to be jumped on, but I don't mind Halo 2's non-ending. I don't mind the idea of a cliffhanger ending to a videogame as long as you know that the next installment will be made.

Whereas with Half-Life 2, there was just. . .nothing. No real sense of accomplishment, I felt.

I know we are just talking about the endings, I felt it was necessary to describe how I was thinking.

But my Empire Strikes Back remark is solid. There will be a Halo 3, the story will be continued. Its just one of the first games to do so, I can't think of any other games that have done it before and because of this will not be the last to do so.

If the game ended and said "The Halo saga is done...go fuck yourself America" then you might have a different story. But going into this game not knowing about the ending I still knew there would be a next installment.

I don't see how. HL2 ended pretty much as the first game did, but with the player having a decently improved grasp on the series' story and details. Shame about
Alyx
, but fans of the series really had no reason to expect anything much different.

Unless you are faulting the game's final segments and not just the actual ending, in which case I still disagree.

HL2 ended the way that felt true to the series' creators. Halo 2's was a clusterfuck of scheduling and a marketing ploy. On principle alone, Halo 2 is worse off.

I agree.

Also, you have a badass avatar :D

But I don't care if it "felt true" to the creators' intentions, because I take issue with the creators' intentions in designing the Half-Life "universe" the way they have :P

RE4's ending isn't really that bad. Sure if you only look at the very end with the speedboat speech it seems sucky, but really you have to also count everything after the Saddler fight as part of the ending too.

Although, the final boss fight is of note because, after all the advancements to gameplay in 4, the boss fight puts you right back in RE2.

"Leon, now!"

Think up something new for RE5, plz.

You can't have a RE final boss without a rocket launcher to the final boss. But I agree, next time they should try something creative. Like how in REmake, the Tyrant would
slap away the first rocket you shot at him sometimes
.

Did RE0 have a rocket launcher? I swear Billy
deals the final blow with his magnum
.

that's probably the best ending ever wtf are you smoking?

worst one in my mind Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

A Wind Waker mention? Hmm, no. That had a great ending.

Jade Empire's ending was forgettable.

The obligatory Halo 2 mention.

Psychonauts, only because they set up a second game. Who knows if it's coming. Also, Raz looks stupid wearing the new uniform. The game though is brilliant. The ending doesn't ruin it, and the last level can easily be pushed out of memory, as it should be.

Seeing its sales it's not a wonder that Sudeki isn't on this list. But Sudeki is the clear winner for the worst game ending since the endings aren't just a screen saying "CONGRATULATIONS".

I have prevented every person I know from playing that game because the twist is just..that..lame. I tell them I'm going to ruin the game, I explain the twist. Without fail every person has said to me "thats lame, thanks for warning me." And they never play the game.
Spoil me.

Edit: As for my pick, I'll say FFX-2. Not only did it give you the option of bringing Tidus back, it had that utterly stupid "let's all pull together!" speech. I seriously wanted to kill someone for that.

SECOND SIGHT.

Bad guy: Oh shit I'm dead, I guess. Oh wait, yes. I am. What a crisis
Good guy: TIME TO GET ON A HELICOPTER
Free Radical: That'll do! LOL ROLL CREDITS, ZOOOOM, TITLE SCREEN

At least the Halo 2 ending let me know that a third one would be made (I recall Bungie saying they would work on something else besides Halo 3).

So Mario Sunshine for me.
Letting FLUDD live at the end (huge cop-out) and a big WTF from Bowser Jr. "I know Peach isn't really my mama." Um...then you kidnapped her and called her mama WHY?

Half life 2.

Seems to me they just gave up 90% of the way into development and thought 'ah fuck it', just put them all in some kinda statsis field until half life 3..

metroid prime, as much as i loved it,had a shitty and short ending

ffx ending was horrible too

didnt finish halo 2 as campain sucked

That's exactly what they did at the end of the first Half-Life. That's what they'll do at the end of every Half-Life except the last one.

"lets get out of here on the airship and that's the end of that, who cares if the world's fucked up as long as we killed kefka." The end.
