Worst game endings...(This generation)

Lets list all of these newer games that have incomplete "get ready for the sequel!" endings but bombed so hard they probably won't get one.

Psychonauts
I didn't really take that as a "...to be continued" ending. I mean, it set it up for a sequel if they feel like it, but it wasn't really a loose thread or anything. Raz wanted to be a Psychonaut in the beginning of the game, and he reached that goal at the end of the game. What, they're supposed to include all the years of adventures he'll have from when he becomes a Psychonaut until when he retires?

Another vote for Jade Empire's (and excuse my language) CRAPPY ending.

I hadn't finished any of my games for years and then I finally do....
It made me wonder "THIS, is how they're making endings these days?"

But but but the girl's father was taken hostage! Are you a bad enough dude to save him?!

Please, fuck Psychonauts.

I noticed LakeEarth didn't add Advent Rising to his list

oh wait

that's because there will be a continuation of the story.

woot

I don't get all the Halo 2 hate.

I mean the first disc's ending setup the second disc perfectly....now if I could just find the second dics they forgot to ship with the game I'd be set.

Silent Hill 2 cause I don't ever know which one is the real one. Or believable one ....i'm going with the suicide ending.

I'm always quick to disremember this game's title, but I'm fairly certain it was Shadows of Destiny and it came out for PS2. As the hero Eike, you had to jump back and forth in time and whatnot. The game had multiple endings, including what I'd consider one of the worst -- maybe in the sense of disturbing -- sequences ever.

After completing all the tasks, Eike sits down in a park and contemplates his life. As he stares up out at the stars, a runaway car barrels from out of nowhere and ....

I dunno if it has the "worst" ending ever...
But Drakengard certainly wins for the strangest, most incoheriant, and seemingly random set of endings ever seen 0_0

There are few endings I actually remember this generation.

Halo 2 was bad. I don't care that it just ends-- Empire ended abruptly, but it was cool. Halo 2's story just wasnt that good.

What is with the Wind Waker hate? It had a brilliant ending.

People consider the ending of the game to be what happens after the final fight until it says THE END. I wouldnt rule out sarcasm though.

Yeah that's a problem. What's really the end of the game? I happen to include the whole "dramatic buildup of the final boss" to be part of the ending of the game. If you think the ending of Wind Waker is just Link and Zelda sailing off into the sunset, then obviously you're gonna be disappointed.

I always felt that the "ending" described everything after the final boss/level/whatever.

Including all the other stuff you mentioned makes it the "endgame", IMO.

Jade Empire (light) - 2 minutes of CG about nothing, plus a few paragraphs explaining what happened to my party members. And a really long credit scene. The credit scene had some funny outtakes, though.

The credits dialog was hilarious. THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!!! :lol

Yeah, I wouldn't rule out sarcasm either but then again, who knows? Even if they are only considering the portion after the final fight with Ganondarf, it's still a brilliant ending. Oh well.

I "imported" Drag-on Dragoon 2. First ending is the ending and the sequel picks up 19 years after that.

Dunno about you, but I earned the 5th ending and had no idea it was a gag beforehand... *explodes*

I'm going with KOTOR2. It was just so dumb. The last "boss" wasn't even that hard and the whole last level sucked ass - one of the worst level designs ever.

I rented Star Wars: Ep III the game, and played it all the way through in like 4 hours. The ending was an edited, low-quality-encoded version of the movie ending. Then it rolled unskippable credits for 15 minutes.
