The movie thread got me thinking about this.
The plot was so damn good.
For those who haven't seen it: an asteroid hits the earth, splits everything into two dimensions. Primates continue to evolve along one dimension, dinosaurs in another. Then a portal is found where they are able to cross over.
I always thought it would be such a good plot for a serious sci-fi movie without Mario and without being aimed at kids.
We know an asteroid really did strike the earth. The concept of parallel dimensions is actually being taken seriously by physicists these days (albeit not from an asteroid...but a bit of creative licence is required)...and of course evolution is a widely held scientific fact. I always thought it had all the makings of a brilliant movie in the right hands.
I'm a bit of a dinosaur buff. And I think biological evolution is absolutely fascinating. Combining the two would make my head explode. The Mario movie sucked but I thought the plot deserved a second chance!
