Still looks great. Technically impossible for n64 though :lol I rather they use this artstyle and character designs for next gen.

If I recall correctly, this was to be the Final Fantasy for the N64, but it got cancelled when they went to Sony. It might actually be a remake of Final Fantasy 4 in 3d??

here we go again...

p.s. it's been stated numerous times that this wasn't an n64 tech demo!

Oh ok, I didn't know... I just remember these from Nintendo Power or something from some Nintendo show.

And also, Zelda 64, Banjo Kazooie and several other games have way better graphics then this on the N64, why do you think it's not possible?

That's an SGI workstation render of the next gen FF concept in 1995 (i think)...

and that kinda style looks like rubbish. We've already seen better in the likes of Tales of Symphonia anyway... and that's rubbish too.

It's the N64 Final Fantasy demo. The fact that you didn't recognize that those are FF VI characters just goes to show how ugly it is. :lol

If they were gunna release something looking like that on the n46, then i can't say i'm regreting them switching to sony. this'd have to be earlly art yeh? cause it looks horrible.

I wouldn't mind if they made a DS FF game w/ superdeformed characters, but everyone else would whine that it's kiddy, so it's probably best if they just make androgynous, normally proportioned ones.

What the heck?

It's not like FFVII's in-game graphics looked that much better!:

FMV is the reason they switched.

It was never running on N64. The polycounts on the charas/environments are way, way too high.

It was a 3D test done on a SGI workstation to see if they could pull of a FF game in 3D. It had nothing to do with Nintendo as the Sony deal was already signed when the test was done.

I didn't say it was running on an N64. It was one of those N64 tech demos. Which, of course, ran off of SGI workstations.

It wasn't a N64 tech demo. Gamefan tried to market it as such, but it was just a 3D test Square did shortly after the Sony deal was signed.

This is explained very clearly in the Final Fantasy episode of Icons. Square was basically on the PlayStation before Sony officially announced the console to the public.

Maybe you missed the FFVII remake anounced a couple months back... for PSP.

Wait, what? It's Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. I heard it was just another new game utilizing the Final Fantasy VII universe. When was it confirmed to be a FFVII remake?

Because if that's true...

I'm pretty sure Square has said nothing more about it since what we've seen at its announcement. A FFVII ARPG, it could be remake, it could not be, it hasn't been confirmed to my knowledge. Though I think some people have taken the name "Crisis Core" to mean the "core of the crisis" or something to that extent, maybe meaning a game that takes place during the events of FFVII, possibly FFVII itself. Seeing as BC is "Before Crisis" and is a prequel. Pretty large speculation though, I don't even expect we'll hear much about it until possibly E3.

Yeah. Because if it IS a remake, my dicks just cummed.

Except an ARPG is an ACTION RPG. Meaning you move around and hit things in real-time like Zelda or Kingdom Hearts. So there is no way it can be a remake. It's just another spin-off game.

I'm pretty sure they made the demo in mid 1995 after finishing Chrono Trigger, and at that time they hadn't yet committed to any platform, whether Sony, Nintendo or otherwise.

Remake != port. I was trying to say it could follow the same storyline of FF7, but with different gameplay mechanics. I was thinking more along the lines of Kingdom Hearts for GBA. Most of what you do falls in line with the first game, but in a different way of gamplay. Excuse me for not elaborating.

Actually the demo was inspired by square's (and hinorobu's) first siggraph appearance in america.
(The seed of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? :lol)

It was around that time the next batch of consoles were about to be released, and the the pre-production of final fantasy 7 was about to begin.

Sorry, but no. Again watch the Final Fantasy episode of Icons if you ever get the chance. Nintendo fans like to live in denial, but Square explains very clearly that they were committed to the PlayStation before its Japanese launch. There are interviews with Square employees who explain their reaction the day Sakaguchi explained to them that the PlayStation was the direction they would take Final Fantasy VII and not a Nintendo console.

With SE releasing FFIII, Egg Monster Heroes (WOOOooOOOOO) and a new Slime Mori Mori, you've got nothing else to desire for a while.

Fuck that shit. This thread should be about motherfucking Actraiser.
I liked Actraiser, but I'd bet money that any new version would be total shit. I can just feel it in my bones. There's no way they'd leave the main character alone, for instance. It'd HAVE to be a wacky-haired teenage dramaqueen straight out of Generic Japanese Cartoon #121.
