It's a bunch of rocks and... that is it.
As a "bonus" it has atmosphere that is too dense to just ignore it, but not enough, to reliably use parachutes.

Curiously, when USSR considered manned Mars mission, getting there and just dying (colonizing was not a conceivable option) was one of the options considered. There was no lack of volunteers either.
