I'm waiting until space travel hits the level of Farscape. My dream is to chill at home. Only your home is a living ship, and every time you look out the window, you're in a new place. But you're still chilling at home.

Being a first settler on Mars would be like the sci-fi version of being a pilgrim, only 1,000x harder. You'd be stuck out in the middle of nowhere constantly worried about food and threats you aren't prepared to handle. You'd make up a holiday called Thanksgiving 2 on the one day you can remember you had lots of food and weren't actively starving. Would be some awesome views though. Like living in Arizona during a pandemic with a hazmat suit on.
