Would you buy a new PlayStation system only for first party games?

I would, but it would not make me entirely satisfied. I HATE needing to play on more than one gaming system. If this actually happens, I would have to consider getting an Xbox/Hybrid as well. Probably the only scenario where I would consider a second system.

And no, I'm not interested in taking some stance against Sony to prove a point. The price of the console is justified for the hours my wife and I put in, where the majority are actually Sony titles. Gran Turismo alone makes the console worth it for me. Will end up using an Xbox for the rest. No interest in a regular gaming PC anymore.

Just for first party? No. I've only purchased 3 Sony-developed PS5 games this generation. Most of my purchases have been third party games. It'll probably be the same for PS6. And that's ok.

If the next system isn't pumping multiple high quality excluisives per year, the system has no reason to exist. If everything is coming to pc, playstation becomes another Xbox, and Xbox is beyond worthless when you own a pc.

Outside of a few exceptions, Sony has been a dud as far as first party output goes this gen. If they continue down this path then it's kinda hard to justify just for 1st party. 99% of playtime with PS5 has been 3rd party stuff so as long as that still comes then I can see myself getting a PS6......eventually.

I buy PlayStations to play mostly 3rd party games. I would never buy a PlayStation from any generation only for 1st party games. Also not everyone have or want a gaming PC. I dunno why that's so hard for some people to grasp. Games also coming out for PC might make a console less valuable for YOU, but for people who only do gaming on consoles nothing changes. I mean I might get a handheld gaming PC running steam os in the future (or even a steam console, but I'm never getting a windows pc). But for playing most of my games, it will be done on my tv via PlayStation. And Xbox Series X via gamepass for however long that lasts.

Nah. Their first party output is fairly cheeks, and the ones that aren't end up on PC usually.

If I look at PS5 current line up the best game is Demons Souls remake of their actual exclusives. Is one game worth a console? Maybe if it was some dream game like a Bloodborne 2 made by fromsoft.

But DSR isn't.

The big heavy lifting for Sony this gen is third party. PS4 that wasn't the case and prior gen's either.

But that's what happens when your dev cycles are 7 years, your major hype studio (naughty dog) cancels one game, and regulates itself to just being a remaster creator and nothing else for an entire console generation.

There's plenty of good first party stuff but again it's either also on PC or not the best stuff you can play compared to what third party has been doing.

Sony made their name over the last couple of decades off the back of their very strong, very high quality first party output. With PC gaming rapidly becoming the standard across the board, and the ecosystem that more and more of the enthusiast audience is moving to as their primary place for gaming, the reason for a lot of people to buy a PlayStation would be for Sony's first party lineup.

Which brings me to the question - how well do you think a PlayStation that only has to sell on the basis of its first party lineup do? How capable is Sony of "pulling a Nintendo", so to speak? Assuming that every third party game can be found on PC - which is pretty much how things stand at this point - would you still buy a new PlayStation just for the promise of new titles from Sony studios and franchises such as Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerrilla, Sony Santa Monica, and Asobi / God of War, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Ghost of..., and Astro Bot? Like the current scenario, assume that ports to PC of these games are not a given (but still may and do happen intermittently).

Are you willing to buy a PlayStation just for first party games? How much would you be willing to spend on it?
No. The age of buying a PS or Xbox for the games is over when I can just buy a PC.

I have never and will never buy a Playstation for first party titles. 5 gens in and I'm pretty sure there aren't even 5 Sony games I actually like.

I would in the past but the ps5 output has been so fucking shit I sold my ps5 and have zero intention in buying a ps6.

Nah, that's what Nintendo systems are for.

I did get PS5 for first party games only but soon realised the games themselves aren't worth it. Luckily, I sold it to a relative and once in a while I borrow it to play something I'm interested in. So far Astrobot has been the only game in five years that I could, without hesitation, call great.

I've never bought a playstation system for its first party games since I was mostly into jrpgs back in the day. Let's see gran turismo 1, wild arms 1 and 2(maybe 3), legends of dragoon, and crash bandicoot was all I bought from Sony until like the ps4. I forgot I also got jak and daxter1-3. Those ps1 games also might have been bootleg since I only remember personally buying squaresoft/squareenix games during those days.

I always buy consoles for the exclusives, if they interest me. Which is why I stopped buying Xbox consoles after the 360 unfortunately.

So I pretty much always buy every console (and I have a capable PC). After the changes Sony have made during the PS5 generation and looking at the so-called exclusives they have put out, there is almost no chance I will buy the PS6.

It's up to Sony to change my mind.

Yes, that's literally the only reason for me to buy any console. If they would port every exclusive to PC, I won't be having a PS.

nope, but i will buy it if the next FF game exclusive for next gen console like FF16, i am an old school player, i alway buy PS to play new FF game since PS1

If you would of asked me this about 1st/2nd party games mid gen ps4, when we had a killer ps4, ps3 psp and vita, ps2 and ps1 lineup of games, i would of said yes in a heartbeat. In 2025 though with the gaas/woke push, its questionable

Back then the games of the last 2 gens (ps3-ps4 2005-2020) that were first party were we had:
4 uncharted (1-3+ golden abyss),
5 killzones (1-3, shadowfall and mercenary),
3 infamous games,
4 Motorstorm games ,
3 wipeout games,
5 LBP games,
Tlou, Tlou2,
Ghost of Tushima
Until Dawn
Heavenly Sword,
Spiderman
Socom 4,
Socom Tactics,
Socom Fireteam Bravo 1 and 2,
Resistance 1-3,
Horizon,
Days Gone,
Order 1886,
Drive club
Gt Sport
Sly 4,
Gt4-6,
White Knight Chronicles 1&2
5 God of war games,
3 Ratchet games,
Ico , Shadow of Colossus,
Last Guardian,
Heavy Rain,
Beyond 2 souls,
Sports Champions,
Puppeteer, Sly 4,
Playstation all stars,
Journey,
Twisted Metal,
Jak collection,
Folk lore,
4 Hot shots golf games,
MLB games,
MAG, Buzz games,
SingStar Games,
Starhawk,
Warhawk,
Tokyo Jungle,
The last Guy,
Pixel Junk Monsters,
Locoroco 1 and 2,
Patapon 1-3,
Jeanne D'arc
Ridge Racer
Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow , and Dark Mirror,
Daxter,
Gravity Rush,
Unit 13,
Super Star Dust Hd and Delta,
Terraway,
Soul Sacrifice and Delta,
Bloodbourne,
Demon Souls,
Mod Nation Racers,
Dead Nation,
Patchwork heroes,
Echochrome,
Fat Princess,
Medieval Resurrection, Medieval Reboot
Death Stranding

2005-2020 was the prime time for 1st party sony games.
PS1 and ps2 had a lot in comparison to now but way less compared to ps3/4-psp-vita gens.

Compare this to now PS5 gen:
1st party: Horizon FW, Gt7, Demons Souls remake, Returnal , Ratchet, GW Ragnorok, Astrobot, Spiderman 2 and miles morales, Concord
2nd party: Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin, FF16 , Death Stranding 2

There were tons more games before. Now to me for first party, the ps5 shines more for being able to play the ps4 games too. If it was just ps5 games it would be kind of meh.
