Would you want to be famous?

There are different levels to being famous such as:

1. you’re on tv or in movies, or maybe a top pro athlete and are known worldwide

2. you’re a famous YouTuber, twitch streamer, or e-sports gamer and you’re famous on the internet, but the average person on the street wouldn’t know who you are

3. You’re famous in your home town for something, but otherwise just a regular person

Would you guys like to be famous or do you prefer the privacy of being a regular person?

As a person, I am satisfied and fortunately people recognize me , especially in the fight of the current pandemic.

Being a YouTuber would be the least I wish ...

I think that being a YouTuber is a dangerous situation and more so with the emergence of social networks, that you are in danger of your prestige as a person in the real work área.

Definitely YouTuber would be the thing What else would I reject.

I never found the attractivity of being famous. Rich, yes, but I keep it to myself. I can't fathom how people are putting themselves out there for likes. I did some porn but it was because it's being paid to have sex which is a win win.

No. I don't even want to be NeoGAF famous! Folks are crazy and we've seen stalkers or people who think because they see you on YouTube every day that they can just come up to your house and think it's all good. Nope! I'm not trying to get doxxed or stalked or cancelled or killed.

Not really.

But I'd be willing to deal with the annoyance of being famous if it also comes with the money

None of the above. Not even a hometown hero.

A lot of famous people hate the fame part, especially with our 24/7 media combined with "TMZ" type celebrity culture where there's always a camera on your face.

Like, if I want to go to the supermarket in my pajamas, I should be able to without people harassing me. If I go to the supermarket with a different chick than I was banging yesterday, then I should be able to do that too.

100% most importantly, I want my close friends and family to be left the fuck alone. When you reach a certain high level of fame, even your friends and family are "fair game" to the celebrity media. I want to go to my nephew's soccer game without people bothering me.

Nope, I'd like be quietly rich, but I also enjoy being lazy more than I enjoy grinding for an abundance of money I don't actually need.

Nope. In the modern world, fame brings more trouble than it’s worth. No one wants to manage their brand on 10 social media platforms, or run the risk of having one unintentional blunder cause cancel culture to come after them. You also become a target for people trying to defame you in a different sense than cancel culture, which is much easier to do in the ago of social media.

Today’s game is to become as wealthy as possible while staying as unknown as possible. The winners are angel investors, software/hardware engineers, and data scientists who work for big tech or unicorn startups and occupy a high position that is non-C-suite. This way you can make close to $1M per year but will not take the fall if something happens to the company. You will easily get another similar job. Executive-level wealth is simply too much, sure you have hundreds of millions of dollars, but the joys of a “normal” life have escaped you and you have to face the problems of being famous that I mentioned at the beginning of this post.

Of course, if you are doing what you love and making enough to sustain it, that is another way to win. However with the ever-increasing corporatization of the arts, this group of people is becoming extremely small.

Yes and no. I feel like it'd be fun at first to be known and recognised, but I can see how that might grate on you over time. Celebrities basically can't do anything normal without being snapped by paparazzi.

I wouldn't be able to handle it.

No. I wouldn't want people in my grill all the time. If people were nice and gave me my space I wouldn't mind. What are the odds of that happening.

Jesus, no. My phone rings too much through a day already, and I pay enough taxes as it is. At least I don't have people taking a thousand appointments for me every day for stuff I don't want to do, and I don't have to deal with agents and such. Anyone actively striving to be famous in today's world is loco in the coco, and there's no chance in hell they're not ending up taking drugs of some sort.

I´d like to be famous but only for doing something important, like developing the quantum theory of gravity or finding documents that prove Jesus was a fraud.

If it was 50 years ago, ya, I wouldn't mind being famous (assuming that means I would be rich as well). Nowadays with social media and everyone having phones with cameras in their pockets, I imagine being famous is a huge pain in the ass. You show up at the waffle house, a few people recognize you, before you know it everyone is calling their friends and by the time you finish your breakfast and leave you're taking selfies with 50 random people.

I'd like to be famous just to say I don't care about it and how it doesn't affect me, I think people would think that's pretty cool :messenger_sunglasses:

Lord no. Being famous looks terrible. I don't even like the idea of people I know in real life talking about me or knowing too much about me.

Privacy is nice but then if you are rich and famous, you get to drive over people without consequences

No way, it's annoying. Back in the mid 2000's if I went to any tourist attraction in the south of China as a young white guy I'd constatly get stopped by groups of young ladies wanting to take a picture with me. At first it was a novelty and felt like "Being famous" but by the end of the day it got old real fast not being able to walk from A to B without being stopped.

I used to work in a bunch of schools in Japan and I got recognised basically everywhere I went in the city by students and parents etc. Now they are all getting part time jobs and shit in the shops and restaurants I frequent. Like, even if I came back Japan in 30 years time I would still be recognised by a lot of people. Even this pathetic level of fame really sucks to be honest.

Haha, yeah I've been there. It's awesome a couple of times, but then suddenly you're taking wedding photos for your friend's wedding and a bussload of tourists drops by and pays more attention to you than to the happy couple.

Also, I started having some small scake fame during the MySpace days, and ley me tell you. Attention from girls is great at first, when it's all compliments and photos in your inbox.

But then shortly thereafter you realize what a massive percentage of women are actual real life psychos, and it's not so fun anymore.

No. I attempted some form of it on a local level in the past and the amount of hate and backlash was unreal. No chance of being able to tolerate millions of critics for years. Just about everywhere you turn people are talking trash about celebrities and famous people. I understand why a lot of them end up depressed, unable to deal with the negatives, and go crazy.

I find it's a lot better to achieve mostly in secret and do your own thing without alerting the world. As others mentioned, the validation is great for a while (especially from the opposite sex) but most of it isn't the kind you want. Not needing everyone's validation is even better.

I gatecrashed a Chinese wedding one time, I even had pictures with the bride and groom. They just assumed that I was someone important accompanying one of their guests. Ate and drank for free all night shit was awesome.

Cash - yes, popularity - no. Even if you enjoy it initially chances are you're going to be sick of people bothering you everywhere, hating you on the Internet and not being able to go on vacation or even to a store without being noticed.

I couldn't think of anything worse.

Those paparazzi guys i would beat the shit out of everytime.

The money you get with fame is the only benefit of being famous.

You have to put on an image to the public and manage that image, its so fake and embarrassing to watch sometimes.

You see these charity type shows that get all these famous people in and they spout on about how much they care and want to help and im sitting there thinking how awful it must be to have to pretended to say this crap.

Interview shows are the worst, you see the celebs on Kimmel or Falon or Corden its so cringe just how phoney they all are, i hate it all, i cant stand these frauds.

With enough money, I would deal with being famous. On the other hand, being famous would make it easier to get rich,. So yeah - make me famous overnight. No problem.

I had that in China a bit too but I was there with two tall blonde folks who got all the real attention. The guy and girl were constantly stopped. It was bonkers. I couldn't imagine having that every day of your life
