My new iPod will just pause the song out of the blue when I so much as touch the thing lightly. Sometimes it'll just do it all by itself. Is this a common problem?

Try not to touch it on the play/pause button, that should fix things.

Did you just load shit tons of music onto it? It takes a bit to warm up... in an hour or so your music will be right as rain.

Also, try turning on the lock if you're moving around with it. You might be accidentally hitting the pause/play button.

I thought the new firmware stopped the iPod pausing when the headphone came loose.

The headphone pause thing is a bane in my side. I use a pair of Apple In-Ears, and I know the damn thing is supposed to pause when I yank them out. The thing is, it only works about 50% of the time. I don't understand why. I'd really like to use the ability as a quick way to pause my iPod without taking it out of my belt clip, but I can't because it's too sporadic.

Well is nice to know that my problem isn't entirely unique. So I guess I shouldn't bother taking it to the Apple store? I have noticed that it seems somewhat related to to the headphones, but sometimes I barely touch the thing and it pauses. It's especially annoying when I have it locked. What's the point of having a portable player is I can't move it?

So how do I get this firmware update?

After some research, I've found out the problem ain't exatly unique. Seems like success has made Apple careless.

"The problem occurs with headphones which have a metal disk around the plug, which seem to include most of the higher end 'phones, . It's probably because the metal disk is touching the metal back of the ipod... but at any rate, a quick and dirty fix is just to take a small piece of plastic wrap, punch a tiny hole in it and run your headphone jack through it... sort of a broken iCondom. So your plug is sticking through the plastic, but the metal base is still covered by it. I just gave it a try and I'm listening to my ipod pause free, no matter what position the plug is in. Give it a try. Much better than continually returning ipods, or giving up your good 'phones. I might try putting some clear nail polish or something on the ipod around the headphone jack, or on the disk around the plug, since the plastic will tear off fairly quickly... but it works for now"

I bought my iPod back in 2003, when it wasn't the 'in' thing. I didn't buy it then to be cool, and I wouldn't buy it now to be cool either...I buy potable electronics cause they're good, and the iPod is one truly awesome music player. That's all there is too it.
