WoW Open Beta

Talking to somebody right now that pays $2/GB above thier base rate, I bet blizzard pays less than that even. You can add $2 a month to my fee and stick your shitty bt client where the sun don't shine. I doubt I'll ever download a GB in a month once retail hits, but I'll pay the full $2 anyway.

Uh, I don't give a shit about any of that. You're the one that brought profits into this. My problem is that the Blizzard BT client is horrible, and that it's rediculous if Blizzard plans to use this turd pile for release. Fuck, I don't even care about the fact that I have to go to a friend's house, to get around the school firewall, when I'm living on campus. It's the fact that the Blizzard client takes a billion times longer to download a file, with the same amount of users/bandwidth available, than a standalone client does. If you don't think something needs to be fixed you're insane. Blizzards needs to fix it, or offer more solutions (i.e. patch servers).

Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft Final Stress Test - Helcon on 11/01/04
In preparation for the upcoming free open beta test, Blizzard will be conducting a final stress test for World of Warcraft. Starting today, November 1, at 1:00 PM PST, players who would like to get a sneak peek of the game prior to the free open beta test will be able to visit FilePlanet, sign up for the final stress test, download the game client, and begin playing. In addition to helping us further test World of Warcraft's server infrastructure under heavy loads, final stress test participants will automatically have their free open beta test slots reserved, and their account and characters will transfer over to the free open beta test seamlessly! For more information, please check out our final stress test FAQ and free open beta test FAQ.

Please note that a subscription to FilePlanet is required in order to join the final stress test. For those who wish to wait until the free open beta starts to join in, we will be releasing information about signups for that in the week ahead. The exact duration of the final stress test has not yet been determined; however, the free open beta test will begin shortly after the final stress test is brought to a close. Oh WTF. That link is not working for FilePlanet, and I have another tab open with Fileplanet that i'm refreshing, and still nothing about the WoW Stress Test.

Edit : Well you CAN download now if you manually head to the link, but the main page signup is not up yet it seems.
 
I'm confused... So the file on the beta site, which clearly says Final Stress Test Download, isn't the real stress test client? Uh, I think I'll keep downloading this file.
 
The link from Blizzard's announcement is bad and there is nothing on FP's site yet.

Where are you seeing the link? And i'm talking about the link for signups, not to d/l the client.
 
Blizzard took the old client download link off thier site last friday-ish, and the one that is available now says 'Final' Stress Test client. I'd assume it's the new one.

Fuck thier link though, I'll wait for the fileplanet download and get it in 20 minutes like I did last stress test.

Well, that's good that us closed beta people get in without hassle AND get to keep our characters rolling.

I haven't played since we got smashed by those hurricanes this summer, but I'm itching to play again in preparation for retail. I have characters at different ranges of levels from 5-20. Anyone want to play tonight (assuming the download goes smoothly), and if so what level or are you starting over?
 
I'm still trying to find a way to weasel my way around fileplanet ;)

So if I were to subscribed to File Planet now... do they charge my card right away?

Or can I say... sign up, download the client, and then cancel my subscription? :D

Ah well. Guess I can just wait a week.

Seems kinda odd though that they would require you to have a subscription to FP to join the stress test. I mean, it's a stress test... you would think they would want as many people as possible to put the servers under a little, I dunno, stress.
 
I dun understand why the don't just use bittorrent. I mean don't even commit that much bandwidth to it, just rely and all the people downloading it. Sure it would be ass slow, but ass slow is better than nothing.
 
why do you people have fileplanet accounts anyway? just curious.

I thought I say it as being like $60 a year :o
I can't imagine them having that much stuff to make it worth it...

So, wait can anyone provide the link to where I can download the file on Fileplanet? I just keep getting to the page where I can sign up for the Stress Test but can't find the actual location ot download the client.

That's the link I got in my email and it takes me to the download page. I had huge caching issues with FP btw, and had to clear everything. I got my key about 5 minutes after signing up, but that was before FP was getting hammered as much as it is now. My friend is having issues registering atm.

I couldn't get the site to function at all in IE, i had no problems in Opera however
