WoW Open Beta

The WoW site was up a couple minutes ago. I created an account, but the link to the downloader wasn't working at the end. Now it looks like the site has gone down again.

I;m still trying to follow this, when people talk about the wow site coming/going do they mean it comes up to create an account literally from scratch or merely use the key you got from fileplanet. In other words, is there any reason for me to keep refreshing?

An account from scratch

No, do not try unless you have a key.

Getting 100 - 120 kb per second off of the Blizzard Downloader.

Now they just need to fix their utterly fucked signup page and I can get my damn account finished.

You would think Blizzard would be the one to learn from the 20 other MMORPGS that go through the same thing. I understand the demand for a blizz MMORPG is 100x other games, but shit. Blizzard should KNOW THIS.

Their installer is fucking gay too. You can't limit your upload so my upload maxes out and cuts into my download so I end up uploading more than I download. Fucking idiots.

Haha, I can't get the signup page to load. It's like everyone's been sitting around hitting refresh all night. Bastards.

Edit: Oh my god, it's fucking down again.

relax people, its an open beta. Now if by morning this are not resolved, then i'd be concerned. Obviously the number of people wanting to play WoW is insane, this bodes will for the game retail, however I hope people relize that the game is yet to hit retail, and this is costing you nothing.

when I was playing WoW this morning everyone was talking about EQ2. Hell we sold out of it today.

Methinks the buzz on this forum is more free vs. $50.00 and little else.

Not just this forum heh. I've visited old high end guilds forums and it's all about WoW. No surprises though, they've all left EQ for WoW months ago, heck even some went working for Blizzard (ie: Furor).

Got in and created a Night Elf Hunter (haha Ror :p) on central test 5... immediately saw 10 other Night Elf Hunters around me. :lol

Character name is Finoria, if anyone else has a character on that server.

Man the Paladin price change for Open rules. I was able to buy my level 16 spells and then I had the 50 silver I had saved up for those spells to spend on the AH on a new shield, breastplate, and sword.

Haven't taken a new screen yet:

On Pacific Test 7.

christ, the update takes forever to download.

This peer-to-peer shit is stupid for distributing patches; there aren't enough seeds for it to work properly.

can't even get transfer rates above 10kb/s

At the risk of sounding like a complete noob... how do you sell things? I see no button that says "Sell" and right clicking on the item shows how much I would get for it. I'm confused. :x I'd look it up on the WoW site, but, well... it's still down.

EDIT: Oh, and how do you enabled the in game FPS counter I've seen in screens?

right click on a vendor, then right click on the item in your inventory that you want to sell.

Dammit, Vep. Playing on a central server. Hrm. Whenver the damn account creation goes up, I'll have to decide on the server. Still have to install the stupid thing too.

That Paladin spiel (making abilities and stuff super cheap) makes it tempting to play for Open Beta. Priest and Warrior are really tempting though >_<.

This sucks. I've had the damn client for days, all I need is a key... urgh.

I couldn't try to get one during the day since I was at work... and now the damn sites just been down for hours, ever since I got back.

Go to the signup page of worldofwarcraft.com. There is a generic open beta key there that they give you during sign up... You do not need to go through the fileplanet crap.

On a diffrent note, I have a question: What does it mean on a item when it says "Item binds when picked up"?

You can't give it away or sell it to a player once you pick it up.

jeez the installer sucks ass. man I'm like screwed. I think I'm gonna opt out of the beta and just grab it when the retail comes out.

I'm giving up for tonight. I'm going to try tomorrow morning and if this crap is acting tardish then yeah, I'm givin my key away.

Ok, just so everyone knows, and the site will probably be slammed for this, but YOU DO NOT NEED A KEY. Just go to http://signup.worldofwarcraft.com and when you start to create an account IT GIVES YOU a generic open beta key. Just enter it in and create an account. And I know the site is down, but the signup page has been periodically up, so just check that every once and a while. Ok, I hope this has helped some people.

Fuck I get back home and nothing. Way to drop the ball, Blizzard!

[edit] WoW won't install either...get stuck on "terrain.MPQ"

Man, I want to make my account. I'm still wrestling with this dumb installer though. I finally get it to unzip correctly and it gives me read errors while unpacking the mpqs

What speeds are you guys seeing with the Blizzard Downloader? I'm using the link I posted earlier and it's jumping around from 8-23 KB/s
