Wrestlemania 21 for Xbox... IS BROKEN!

Well folks, I picked this up yesterday.

Looks great, plays pretty well once you get a hang of the pace, good reversal systems.

One small, tinsy problem.

THE XBOX LIVE FUNCTION DOESN"T FUCKING WORK!

Way to go THQ, looks like you made a game of the wrong build

really glad I decided to pass on this still. I almost picked it up just to play against you guys online, despite really bad reviews.. then I heard about this. Could you return this game since an advertised feature doesnt work at all?

I'm going to... wether they like it or not it's defective.

It freezes during replays (a problem I forgot to mention) and it's not just a freeze, it's a total lock up to the point you HAVE to restart.

THQ, be smart, recall this. NOW!!!!!

yeah, it sounds like they sent the wrong build off to the presses, because according to gamespot the review build was fully functional.

Dream on, the game is the #1 selling xbox game at EB's site. As long as it sells, they could care less...

Well considering a HUGE selling point of the game doesnt even work, it's a damn good reason to recall it.

Remember, Madden was recalled too. Anything is possible.

The game is decent otherwise though? I used the Gamestop $20 gift voucher from Phantom Dust for it and it's a little too late to cancel my order.

How's the CAW? Do you absolutely have to take each CAW through the story mode to increase his attributes?

The CAW isn't bad, you start off with next to nothing for apparel, but the character models (for the first time, if I recall) the CAW's look like they fit in with the characters from the game. There is an absolute FUCK-TON of stuff to nlock... as well as the legends.

The create a title mode is pretty well doen too. EXHIBITION TITLE MATCHES! (Although it only keeps them to your profile and not to a specific character)

Story mode is GREAT. Fantastic voicework by the WWE staff.

And YES, you have to take your character through story to build him up.. you take him through the developmental program as well.

What happened to MSs certification process?? :lol

Sigh, try using a bit of common sense?

Well considering it isn't Microsoft who produces the game. They probaly gave it the okay and then THQ sent the wrong version off to be manufactured.

M$ certification process:

Have enough to pay the liscense rights?

THQ:
Yep.. here's a fat check from Vincent K. McMahon, reapeat after me.. "The game is fine"
Nod your head accordingly.

M$:
Shit my brother, as long as the money's green, we don't give two shits if it's good or not.

EDIT:
Someone's sarcasm meter is broken...

Oh...my...god.... this gets the damage control of the day award.

Darien, at least inform yourself before you spew your garbage.

IGN and Gamespot's review copies worked fine over the XBL network. The retail won't even ACESS the network. Nor did the review copies lock up on replays, which the retail copy does... quite regularly.

Something is obviously VERY wrong.

well I was on the way to pick up a copy in a few....I've been reading about the game not even trying to get online. You select Xbox Live and it just goes directly to the troubleshooter.

To answer the question about has it been a good wrestling game for Xbox....Raw 2 > *

Damn, so if the review builds were fine and got ripped to hell in reviews, I can't even imagine what the retail version is like. Probably a 2/10.

Do not interrupt my attempts to start arguments peon.

Yes I see that the preview/review copies worked fine, the problem with previewing/reviewing online console games is that they aren't previews in the real world(situations)... and this very well may be something that doesn't happen until servers hit a certain load etc., it certainly wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. We're always told that there is some tweaking that goes on occasionally between review and final print copy... perhaps in fixing something else, they broke online... then again that's not the only thing broke from the reviews I read.

Don't worry you'll still be able to have your cute little online wrestling fed.

Can't you read? For christ's sakes man you're thick headed.

Nice and slow for you..

THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE SERVERS OR XBL... IT DOESNT EVEN GO TO XBL, IT'S THE SOFTWARE.

The people at Gamingring were playing it on XBL, I've seen them online in my XBL dashboard playing it. It worked at one time. As for the lock ups, they didn't exist in the review builds.. something went very wrong.

IT TAKES YOU STRAIGHT TO THE TROUBLE SHOOTER.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE, THE GAME'S ONLINE PORTION DOES NOT WORK.

You can't patch it if the damn thing doesn't connect. See a problem here?

Besides, why the fuck do you care anyway? Or are you just in here to be a pain in the ass?

Fixed.

Stop wearing your heart on your shoulder.

someone should get Bog to try and get on with the review copy to see if that still works. If he can still get onto Live fine with it, I think it would show that the retail build isnt the same as the review build.

The review build is definitely a different build that the final build.

I'm trying to think if we've seen anything as bad as this before... the last thing I can think of was the recall/exchange program that happened early in the DC's life for... what was it... Midway's arcade boxing game? or was it the Mortal Kombat that came out for the DC....

Yeah it happened with Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and quite possibly MK Gold. They had a green "new " sticker on the fixed copies of Ready 2 Rumble.

Stop being an asshole. There.. that makes us even.

And the phrase is; "Heart on your sleeve."

Hydro thunder was this way too.. none of the three would even boot up. Granted WM21 boots up, but it goes to shit right after it.

Isn't this the opposite of what Sony fanboys were claiming happened to Killzone? That the review code was buggy and the retail copy solved all the problems? Either way, that game was awful.

Well if you want to get really technical the less common known version of the phrase is heart on your lapel, which I change to shoulder... and you've just asked me to stop being me... that's impossible.

HT had the problem too? So there were 3 discs getting exchanged? I only remember that there was one... just couldn't remember which game it was...

(EDIT BY ME: OK, fair enough....)

Yep, Hydro hunder was guilty too. Basically anything that Midway had out at launch, the burn the press got didn't include the boot portion of the program.

As it stands, I'm taking it back and getting a refund. I got burned on Smackdown vs Raw, and now this. It looked to have so much promise and this happens.

I'll just stick to King of Colosseum and my newly acquired All Star Pro Wrestling 3.

Seriously guys, settle down. Arguing over the correct turn of phrase for "heart on your sleeve" is almost as stupid as saying a 360 won't take you back to the exact same place you started. Come on now. :)

I've had both of these recommended to me but I'm just too lazy to have to deal with playing while looking at a FAQ...

Bish, it's all in good fun.. No harm, no foul.

But seriously.. avoid this at least until they get a fixed version out.

Avoid at all costs.

KOC2 is actually not bad.. the early menus are all English.

I've had to look at the Faq maybe twice to figure out what was going on. But it's a fantastic game with a bit of a learning curve. Good mix of MMA and wrestling. Love the crowd approval meter at the end of a long, grueling match up.

I can't speak for ASPW3 yet....

yeah, but that is at least something that could possibly happen.. sometimes review copies get sent out (see Ninja Gaiden) and then the game is delayed or some major bug is squashed. Generally the dev sends a list of bugs that they know about that should be fixed by launch and those get ignored in the review though.

a build that is worse getting sent out really shouldnt happen.. but appears to have.

Outcast, how do you feel about WM21's game play so far? Crap, or actually someting decent?

If that's all that's holding you back, I highly recommend looking at KOC2. It isn't a real pick-up-and-play kinda game but the gameplay system is wonderfully deep. Trying to get higher audience ratings never gets old.

I played it a bit with someone else at Gamestop until the game froze and crashed during a replay. The speed and pace are actually great for a wrestling sim as the wrestlers feel like they have some weight to them instead of being hyper and jumpy, but the gameplay feels sluggish thanks to the crappy mo cap animations and the collision detection is bad.

I'm talking Showdown LOW bad, as in running into invisible force fields and getting knocked down and punches that do not land and yet cause damage.

GOOD:
It's a slower/more sim pace of smackdown with light and strong grappel system.

You can see where the No Mercy influence is in this title.

BAD:
Some collision issues here and there... nothing big though. You have those in every wrestling title.

Bad parts: Lack of woring Online.... ergh.

Game freezes and sometimes does a total lock up when the replay kicks in after pinfall.
I have noticed it's not always the last few seconds of the macth... it's whatever big move sealed the win for you. Could have been halfway into the match.

I can only hope a recall is enforced the right one hits the mass market. This is a huge black eye for Giante and THQ.

This man speaks the truth... too bad this wasn't online. Take my Masato Tanaka online and school people.. SHEER POWER.

I thought a certain mod said he was helping out with the production of this great game. Or atleast giving his opinions on progress.

I'm partial to Gary Albright myself but I agree with your statement.

What I really hope for, actually, is a PSP version of KOC. Man, that would be awesome. That or another PS2 version really...I'm not too picky.

Gaming Ring is my new favorite site.

News articles like "Finally we knoiw what there doin here is the hole post on xbox.com from thq."

Quotes like: "There hasnt been a wrestling game that has been disected and covered like Wrestlemania XXI for the Xbox. Gamingring.com has covered the game perhaps better then any other website on the net"
