By his evil brother Matt Hardy in a feud that was hilariously silly.
- Matt sneak attacks Jeff in a stairwell before Survivor Series so he can't compete for the title, it's unknown that he did it at the time since WWE clearly had no concrete idea behind their story either but with the way things turned out, yep he did it which is odd because...
- The following month Matt helps Jeff win the title, at this point one has to assume they still had Christian planned as the attacker becuase this makes no sense on Matt's part.
- Then he costs Jeff the belt the following month because WWE had to swerve the internet, in the meantime he also tried to ram him off the road and kill him or something, at this point the truth is revealed that Matt was behind the sneak attacks all along and not the rumoured Christian.
- Of course he tried to blow him up with pyro on a smackdown episode, too far for mere jealousy? nah
- And he claimed to have killed Jeff's dog in a housefire which actually happened, Matt Hardy SUPER HEEL! he went beyond kicking the dog in kayfabe that's for sure.
- 3 months later they are chums again after Matt broke his hand and lost all his heat, 3 month rule to the XTREME
Even Kane and Taker have competition from that nonsense. Though I guess it made for a rollicking WM build, better than anything this year.
