I'm seriously bummed. The man was an excellent writer who brought a unique, well-considered point of view to whatever topic he tackled. I also learned a HELL of a lot about race relations in this country from reading his writing.

Very sad. The guy was a legitimately great writer. We used some of his essays ('Imagination' and 'Natural Superiority of the Black Athelete') in a class last semester - very sharp writing. And his sports columns were always extremely entertaining, especially the NBA and NFL stuff. Damn, this is depressing.

I just read his "Laker Myth" article this morning. It's really a shame, so young.
